"To troll or not to troll", that is the question.

Might we hear another announcement, soon? Perhaps, he might prefer to be called the same name as his father: "Governor."

Or Chancellor....

Waller for Governor 2019.

My favorite story about his daddy: When Big Bill was governor, I stopped at the official welcome center on the coast (it seems like it was on US 90 back then), went into the restroom and it had one of the then newly invented hot air blowing hand dryers. Scratched on its surface along with an arrow pointing to the button were the words, “Welcome to Mississippi. Press here for a word from our governor, the Honorable William Waller.” Absolutely nailed it!

He had to announce to keep Delbert from doing it. Waller beats Tate by 5 to 7 pts in a primary.

I am originally from Arizona and came to Mississippi to go to law school at Ole Miss. During our orientation, the events kicked off with a speech from Chief Justice Waller. And it was a beautiful speech about the role of the Courts in our democracy; with a special emphasis on the legal career of John Adams - who defended the soldiers in the Boston Massacre out of a sense of duty.

I spoke with Chief Justice Waller after his speech and introduced myself to him. Years later (and every time he sees me), he warmly greets me as "the Sandra Day O'Connor legal scholar from New Mexico."

Although he mis-remembered my (and former Justice O'Connor's) home state (but not by much), it always stuck with me that the Chief Justice remembered who I am and the conversation that we had that day.

I am very critical of many of Mississippi's state courts judges. The Chief Justice is not one of them. I don't always agree with his opinions, but he is a asset to the legal profession in Mississippi who goes out of his way to pass on the good traditions of our profession to young attorneys.

The Waller boys are all good as they come. They have all served the community state and nation and are genuinely good, decent Christian men. Tate is a carnival barker who never had the guts to put on a uniform and do the hard service jobs these guys have done.

Waller would beat Hood like a rented mule in November '19.

Good man. Wish he would run for Governor but I’ve been told he won’t. Hope they are wrong.

Anonymous said...

He’s a hollow suit....won’t address very important issues before the court.

Scared little man compared to his father.

@5:20

An MSU grad chancellor at UM?? I don't think so!

Anonymous said...

I would have loved to have seen him jump into either of the races for U.S Senate. Would have made a great Senator.

Anonymous said...

He would win the guv race going away. But like so many other qualified people, why would he?

Anonymous said...

8:13 - Who mentioned UM? It ain't all about you! OR um.

Anonymous said...

He's probably approaching 70 years of age, or not far from it. Why the hell would he want to be governor?

Anonymous said...

Macy Hanson, why would you put your name to such a horribly-written statement?

Anonymous said...

He always ruled on behalf of corporations. Good man.

Anonymous said...

He would definitely get my vote for Gov

Anonymous said...

No one should assume that a Waller run for Governor would be via the Republican primary.

Anonymous said...

If he runs as a Dem he won't have the support of the teaparty christers! Probably doesn't want or need the support of the tRUMPers.

Justice Waller is 66 years old. He was a superb Chief Justice.

I don’t know anything about his career, but he is a neighbor....about the nicest guy I’ve ever met in my life.

11/10 @1:00 am: What business is it of yours? It was a lovely, heartfelt tribute. If you can't understand the sentiment she was trying to communicate all your nickel-knowledge about fine points of grammar is kind of wasted.

Thanks, Macy

The Waller boys are as good as they come. Bill Jr. is no exception. All around good guy.

Justice Waller announces his retirement and it takes all of 51 minutes before the focus is redirected to the next political election. That, to me, is a symptom of an illness.

@11:52am -

with the idiots & crooks we now have in office why would we not savor the thought of an honest, capable, and intelligent person running for office????
Tater and the Crook our only choice for governor???? Makes me want to throw up...............

Waller would also have made a great US senator.

6:45, why did you come aaaaaallllllll the way from Arizona to Mississippi to go to Law School? Did Sinema and McCain not have a Law school in an abandoned service station? Oh, I forgot. We are on the bottom of the pole because we are an agricultural state and that was confirmed by CHS. We gotta get out of that damn Agriculture State / farmer state of mind and realize we have to BEGIN a VO/TECH program pretty damn soon. But wait, we have to bow down to Haley who is actually the surrogate guvnuh of this State. 200 families own this damn state an until we stand up and put someone with backbone in place for ANY position we are destined to stay damn dead last!!!!!

Anonymous said...

Senator-elect Sinema and the late Sen. McCain had a Law school in an abandoned service station in Arizona?

@1:08

Please go take your meds before your head explodes!

Nice guys finish last.

Rolling laughing at the person who called Macy "she"

best ever

I have known Waller since he was at State. He would make a great governor.

Anonymous said...

Sad to see him leave. He would make a great governor but (on good authority) he is moving full time to Oxford. Chancellor, maybe?

Anonymous said...

Glad to see him go.

Anonymous said...

Will the last white good ole' boy/girl who moves to Oxford - that haven for old Mississippi whites - please close the door on the way out?

Justice Waller is a neighbor of mine and he is one of the nicest, most genuine people I've ever known. He's also one of the hardest working. I SERIOUSLY doubt he's planning an entry into politics. More likely is a move to Oxford (not to be Chancellor though), and I hope that's not true. He's a wonderful neighbor and one of the most apolitical people I've ever met. The world needs a lot more people like him.

Anonymous said...

Macy is a guy, a good guy, and a smart, intelligent lawyer. Our state is lucky to have people like him voluntarily move and stay here. Signed, your friend and former DCHB-GPT colleague

1:08, for all of the state’s shortcomings, it does already have a well-formed network of trade education programs offered by community colleges and utilized by partner high schools and employers. I fear you’ve been fed far too much rhetoric and far too little fact.

@1:55 He's only moving to 78% white Oxford to escape the supposed bad element he hates. Like all things Oxford, he misses old Mississippi.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
