Sponsors Rule at MSU!

Doug Hindman appeared on the grass of Scott Field as a "sponsor" of the Mississippi State-Arkansas football game last Saturday.   He even appeared on the radio pregame show as the school honored for his support of Bulldog football. This is the same Doug Hindman who was busted in a Perverted Justice/NBC sting in 2006.  A grand jury indicted him for "exploitation of a child" but he was allowed to plead guilty to a lesser charge of cyberstalking.  Governor Barbour pardoned him during the last weeks of his reign in 2012.

Gulf Relay of Clinton sponsored the MSU-Arkansas game at Scott Field last Saturday.  MSU referred to the company as a "partner" on Facebook.

The President of Gulf Relay, Doug Hindman, even got to glad-hand with the MSU brass on the turf of Scott Field in front of a packed house.

The scene was a far cry from what took place in 2006 in Hinds County.   NBC and Hinds County deputies busted Hindman in 2006 after he attempted to meet what he thought was a 13 year-old girl.    WLBT reported:

WLBT News went under cover over the weekend with the national on-line group, pervertedjustice.com.

The sting operation was designed to catch on-line sexual predators. This was carefully planned and executed. We worked in concert with the Hinds County Sheriff's Department and District Attorney's office.

This took place in a quiet Byram neighborhood off Siwell Road this past weekend. We were stunned at the volume of hits men made on our young decoys. A Perverted Justice operative from the Jackson area was with us, other volunteers assisted on-line nationwide. They posed as a 12, 13, and 14 year old girls home alone for the weekend.

We have chat-room logs showing men initiating a sexual liaison. That's when the young girl gives them her home address. Some suspects went much further than just chatting, they actually showed up at the Byram home.

With a span of 60 hours, 12 men from all walks of life and all ages showed up. Mississippi law states no one can use a computer to entice, seduce, or solicit a child for the purpose of engaging in sexually explicity conduct. They crossed the line when they did that "on-line." All 12 face felony exploitation of a child.

JJ reported in January 2012:

Mr. Hindman was indicted on February 8, 2007 for the charge of "exploitation of a child". The indictment states that during the week of July 7, 2006, he

"wilfully, unlawfully, and feloniously by any means including computer knowingly entice, induce, persuade, seduce, solicit, coerce, or order an undercover operative posing as a child to meet with the said Douglas Hunter Hindman or any other person, for the purpose of engaging in sexually explicit conduct, in violation of Section 97-5-33, Mississippi Code of 1972".

Assistant District Attorney Allyson Nelson signed the indictment. Mr. Hindman paid a $50,000 bond and was represented by Joe Holloman. Judge Swan Yerger adjudicated the case. The charge was reduced to cyberstalking in a plea bargain. The plea bargain Mr. Hindman signed imposed a $5,000 fine, a suspended jail sentence of two years, and a probation term of five years.
The probation term was cut in half by none other than Gerald Jones, Jr., son of the former JPD cop.  However, the lenient treatment did not end for Hindman.  Lee and Maggi Lampton attempted to intervene with Governor Barbour on Hindman's behalf.  R. L. Knave got his mitts on a letter written by the Lamptons and published it in the Jackson Free Press in 2012:

Lee and Maggi Lampton, after thanking Gov. Haley Barbour and his wife, Marsha, for "a lovely and special lunch at the Mansion," wrote: "As you count down the last few days of your governor's term, we would like you to ask you to consider pardoning our friend Doug Hindman. We have known Doug through church since he was a young man. Over the years, we taught him in both in both Sunday school and youth group. We have watched him grow into a fine young man." Article.
Hindman's father was a star running back at Ole Miss.  The Governor pardoned Hindman, wiping his record clean.

If in doubt about what took place back in 2006, read the disgusting chat logs.

Oh well, at least no bulls were castrated.

Maybe this exposure will finally get Cohen’s attention. Or Keenum’s. Needs immediate attention and corrective action.

Does every shady Mississippi story have to involve Boss Hog? He is so Ole Miss. He will be a perfect Chancellor for them.

Anonymous said...

John Cohen should resign. I'm a decades long State fan and it's been a two year long debacle with Cohen as athletic director. Cohen and his wife are big time lefties. They donated money to Hillary Clinton.

Anonymous said...

Like taxes, criminal statutes are for the little people.

Anonymous said...

I should clarify something. The political donation websites only list Nelle B. Cohen of Starkville Mississippi as donating money to Hillary in 2016, but it's no secret John Cohen's politics are the same as his wife.

Cynical but your statement seems to be true more often than not.

Doug is a pos generally. Hide your kids and hide your wife.

He makes little dickie Scruggs look downright angelic.

Louis LeFleur said...

Hard to believe a fan, decades long or not, could care that much about an AD's politics, particularly in a case where it might just be that he couldn't force himself to support Trump as did a lot of Republicans. Regardless, I wouldn't care about an AD or coach or whatever who identified as a non Republican. It's a matter of whether or not they get their job done.

Anonymous said...

It is a sad indictment of our current society that you have to run a full background check on a donor before you can accept donations from them. Sad...

I don’t care who the Cohens vote for. I do care about taking money from Hindman

The real root of this whole issue is the fact that his 'dad was a star running back for Ole Miss'. And that's why Boss Hogg pardoned him.

I think it rather irrelevant that he attended Sunday School and Youth Group and always had one hand in his pocket.

Anonymous said...

Isn't it obvious Cohen knew none of this history on this Ole Miss alum? I get the story, but Why pull out the meat cleaver to butcher a guy who probably had no knowledge of this garbage?

Kingfish said...

In all fairness, I doubt Cohen knew any of this. I also don't see what his politics have to do with anything right now.

I'm still beside myself.

Contributions to State will probably increase now that folks know that the Cohen's are intelligent people

OK...I read the entire attached conversation record. I do wonder if Haley read it before pardoning him.

I also would like to know if the cop was masturbating while this chat series was ongoing. Asking for a friend.

Kewl. lol. Don't Hurt Me. I won't. I know the governor.

I don't care about taking money from Hindman, I care about who Cohen voted for,

What this person did 12 years ago is pathetic and worthy of a felony conviction, but it is even more pathetic for the Clarion-Ledger (and now Kingfish) to drag him back through the mud after he has put his life back together, built a successful company, and is contributing to society. This type of mud-raking is intended only to ruin a man's business and personal life and nothing else. This is not journalism. You should be ashamed.

Anonymous said...

Doug's company was honoring veterans. This seems like an unnecessary shot at him. Happy Thanksgiving!

Anonymous said...

Let's see, Mississippi's Republican, Ole Miss Good Ole' boy Guv pardons a rich sex offender because another rich, Ole Miss Republican asked him to, and people are made because the AD at State is a Democrat?

Normally, I would advocate for the restitution of a felon, but the only lesson this guy learned is that he can do whatever he wants.

But the finger pointing should again be at Republicans and the damage they've done to this State.

Anonymous said...

So let me get this straight... felon starts a successful business and just shouldn't give away any sponsorships?? Maybe he should just keep all the money if that would make y'all feel better.

8:40 when you have 100s of staff at your disposal, you should probably know who you publicly associate with in front 60K football fans.

That the stadium cups have a foul odor is a management problem. That the stadium bathrooms may not always be fully stocked is a management problem. Recognizing a baby-diddler (who many people had prior awareness of) is not a management problem.....it's a fireable offense.

GFY, 9:33. Nobody forced Doug to cut a check in order to be honored PUBLICLY. He created this mess all by himself. Could've made Wingard Home's decade, privately, with the amount of money he spent to shake hands with Cohen and get his pic on Twitter. He deserves every bit of scorn thrown his way.

Also, I've read the transcripts. He should be in jail.

Signed,

I'm shocked he stayed in the Jackson area.

Sure God will forgive him but his fellow man will never ever get over this crime.

The only thing for him to do is relocate to a different side of the world and start over where no one knows him.

Anonymous said...

I really can't "put myself in his shoes" with regard to the offense, but I don't understand why he wouldn't just do the sponsorship and then trot out somebody else from Gulf Relay, rather than taking the field himself. Maybe he thought it was long ago and forgotten.

It is a shame that power and money have that kind of pull. It is also a shame that if someone gets a second chance and really changes they can't really ever put the past behind them in this digital world. This disappointment in this story is multi-faceted...

Doug never served a minute of time for a felony involving the discussion and attempted rape of a 13 year old girl.

That's right....she was 13.

If you have a 13 year old daughter and you think its OK for a 30 something year old to:

1) talk about screwing your 13 year old daughter;
2) get arrested for trying to screw your 13 year old daughter;
3) get pardoned by the damn governor after having been given the best plea deal known to man....for trying to have sex with your 13 year old daughter....

then feel free to comment.

Otherwise, STFU trying to stand up for such a putrid, pathetic piece of shit.

Anonymous said...

The fact that he was pardoned for what many are sitting in jail for, or have been, and who have their photos on the sex offender registry for the remainder of their life, is what is offensive.

There are others on the sex offender registry who have "found God", "become a Christian", for much less than what Doug did, but money always wins.

He is free to live his life and most certainly will one day return to what he did previously.

This creep found me on some Yahoo page years ago (before his arrest), found my address, and showed up unannounced at my house. Needless to say, I wish I had called the cops on him then. Instead, I answered the door and was shocked, and shut and locked the door. I'm sure I'm not the only one he did this to.

He's on Facebook with a very pretty wife and young son. She must be nuts.

Once again, Doug's ego got the best of him. It was his ego that led him down to Byram that night to have sex with a thirteen year old and it was his ego that led him out on the field at MSU. He is a narcissist by every definition of the word. This is whatcha get, funjxn1. It's a tough world . . .

Hey, 10:15, not that it really makes any difference, but the "victim" of Mr. Hindman's sick, warped, un-fixable brain was NOT a 13 year old girl. Someone please do the research to determine the disposition of the cases of the other 11 people who were arrested in the same sting. Would be interesting to see if they got plea deals. Fairly certain none of them got pardoned by the governor.

This story is why I LOVE this blog. The only unbiased source of non-watered down information.

This whole story is the perfect illustration of the unsolved dilemma facing our society today: Regarding crimes or bad acts committed in the past, do we forgive over time, or do we hold it against them forever, and what is a policy that can be applied to all, so as not to differ on a case-by-case basis?

This brings in Hollywood celebrities and political appointees (Kavanaugh) but it also touches local people like this guy.

I don't know the ultimate answer, but I do know that if I were Hindman, I would have avoided doing something that makes him or his company the center of attention, like sponsoring a MSU event. One can build and operate a successful company without promotions like this one. With Hindman's background, pardoned or not, he should have known to avoid this unnecessary public show.

8:34 agree be careful who you get in bed with a/k/a take contributions from... for instance, JUDGE JEFF WEILL, candidate for MS Court of Appeals listed Hindman as a campaign donor in a report Weill holed today.... and, in the world of politicking, the donation of $2,500 was a substantial .... not to savvy to take dirt money from one who was arrested for trying to pick IP a 22 year old little girl... just looks bad and makes you question Jeff’s decision making skills... I guess money really is a great aphrodisiac...

Anonymous said...

The question raised by the CL and by KF by running this article deals with MSU accepting a donation from Hindman. Its not a question of what Hindman did, why he did it, or what kind of person he had to be at the time to commit such an act.

And its not about Barbour pardoning him. Just like the stupid crap Hindman did 12 years ago, the pardon was 7 years ago.

You want to bitch about either one - that's fine. Could have done it at the time, and many probably did. (Don't remember anybody bitching about our sorry a$$ DA that cut the deal keeping him out of jail, who is now running to be a Circuit Judge, but that's not surprising from those on this blog either.)

The question is - when, and how, are institutions supposed to background check each and every contributor to any cause nowdays - and what is the standard that should be created to decide which contributions to accept and reject.

Blaming Cohen, and Keenum, for accepting a sponsorship from a corporation in support of the Veterans Day program has pushed the limit. Or Learfield Sports just as well.

Run a background check on the corporation; then any and all corporate officers; and any current management; === where do you want to stop?

I knew of the Hindman family at the time of the sting, but didn't make the association then. If I heard the name "Doug Hindman" last week, I would never have placed the sting participants with the supporter of the Veterans' Day affair. How in the hell can one expect Cohen or Keenum to be held to a standard that would require this kind of research each and every time someone contributes to the University?

Anonymous said...

Has Jeff Weill cut ties with Mr. Hindman as MSU has done? Will he? Will Jackson Jambalaya have any modicum of integrity and publish comments regarding Hindmans donations to Jeff Weills campaign?

And then anvil falls from the sky and lands on your judicial runoff campaign campaign...people gonna be asking if da Judge knows the pardoned felon who makes it rain...

Judge Jeff Weill received $2,500 in campaign donations from Douglas Hindman, the pardoned felon who has come under scrutiny in recent days for taking part in a Mississippi State University event this weekend.

Weill, who is a Hinds County circuit judge, is in a runoff for a seat on the state Court of Appeals against David McCarty, who barely missed winning the Nov. 6 election out right. The runoff is Tuesday.

We should not express ourselves but should just shut up and be quiet, and we should shelter our opinions and hide our thoughts under a bushel - otherwise we will be hypocrites. And if we speak out in defense of our children and our laws, we are simply moralizing, which is not allowed.

Is that a fair summary? But wait, one more thing...you said you agree with 10:28. I looked back to see what 10:28 said and found that he called us "freaking Baptist finger pointing hillbillies". So, please add that to my summary of your thoughts on this matter.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
