The Medical Queen is GONE!

The Mississippi State Medical Association is seeking new leadership.  The Mississippi State Medical Association  terminated its Executive Director, Charmain Kanosky. MSMA is the trade association representing the physicians of the state.  Kanosky served as the lobbyists for MSMA before becoming Executive Director—employed by the association for nearly 25 years.   Her annual salary was $209,000 per and $40,000 in benefits.
MSMA issued this letter yesterday:

On behalf of the Board of Trustees of the Mississippi State Medical Association, and in the interest of transparency I want to notify you of a change in executive leadership of MSMA. Effective today, Dr. Scott Hambleton has been named Acting Executive Director as Charmain Kanosky transitions to leave the organization. We ask your discretion and confidentiality in regard to this personnel matter. Additional information will be forthcoming, but we felt it was important to inform you of this change. Importantly, we affirm to you that the Board is committed to assuring that MSMA services and activities will continue without interruption. Should you have any questions, please contact me directly or you can speak with Dr. Hambleton at 601-853-6733.

Regards,
Jennifer J. Bryan, M.D.
Chair, MSMA Board of Trustees

Sauces say that the Board chose not to renew the Executive Director's contract.  Kanosky was known throughout the Capital area as a controversial figure, unwilling to make reasonable compromise, fighting unnecessary battles and often times pitting physician groups against other physician groups.  Some considered her to be the real ruler of the medical industry in Mississippi.  A resolution that called for her termination was introduced at MSMA's 2014 annual business meeting but the resolution went nowhere.

Kingfish  note: This website's experience with the former Executive Director has been one of attempted bullying and intimidation.  Attempted because seen in this earlier post, the attempt backfired in what was one of the more satisfying posts ever published on Jackson Jambalaya.

Then there is this little game the Executive Director and her husband played with the Board of Medical Licensure.  Dr. Luke Lampton was the Chairman of the Board of the Department of Health from 2007 to 2017.  Some controversy arose when the Board of Medical Licensure (MBML) said he had several blank, signed prescriptions for suboxone locked in drawer at his office.  MBML  suspended his license for a year but stayed the suspension if he followed several directives issued by the Board.   Dr. Lampton is a respected physician in McComb.  There simply aren't many doctors in his specialty who practice in that rural area.  Dr. Lampton was going to be traveling out of town and simply signed some prescriptions for patients who might need refills while he was away.  The prescriptions were kept secured.  There was no evidence or allegation of prescription abuse.  Period.

However, never let a crisis go to waste.  Check out this letter sent to the State Board of Health as well as the signature.

Dr. Kanosky is the plastic surgeon husband of the former Executive Director.  It doesn't take a Sid Salter to figure out what is going on with this letter.  Nothing like the Executive Director of the Mississippi State Medical Association engaging in a power play for control the Board of the Department of Health.

Hmm.... maybe the headline should have been "The Medical MQB is Gone!"

She and her plastic surgeon husband are not really around to help people with medical needs....they parade around in fancy cars and furs while bilking the system.

Waste of flesh.

Move in the positive direction.

Why is my stockbroker required to put a link front and center on his webpage so anyone can find out if anyone has had a disagreement with him, yet I can't find out how many malpractice suits have been filed against my surgeon.

My heart surgery is more important than the performance of my $2,000 IRA.

The State medical association should require full disclosure by its members.

I like that 10:11....maybe you or somebody can start a Yelp for healthcare professionals. Hell, I'd like to know how long people sit in a waiting room too. Not enough market forces at work in healthcare.

$209,000 salary and we are still the fattest and poorest state in the USA. Does that have something to do with the priorities of the physicians' lobby, the hospital association and the legislature? Healthcare lobbying is a multi million dollar industry in this state. Only improvement I see is the bank account of the legislators, lobbyists and healthcare professionals.

As correctly pointed out, MSMA is a trade group. Membership is voluntary and is not required to practice in MS. Ms Kanosky was,in my opinion, a poor leader of this group. I am glad she is gone and will now consider rejoining.

If they run it like the Bar Assn. manages lawyers, you probably have pizza delivery men, masquerading as brain surgeons.

She was physically escorted off the premises. There's got to be more to this than just a turning of the tide.

Anonymous said...

She was notorious for disliking and targeting primary care physicians. She blocked us out at MSMA. Hope MSMA does the right thing and gets some new blood in for leadership that supports all physician groups.

Anonymous said...

Do you know what you call someone who graduates last in his class in medical school?

Doctor.

Anonymous said...

Where did Mrs. Kanosky attend college? Did she attend college? What is her degree? ...... Questions a Board never thought to ask...

During a party, a doctor is telling a lawyer that he is sick of his friends asking him for free medical advice. The lawyer says, "just do what I do, and leave a bill in their mailbox." The doctor decides he'll give that a try and thanks his lawyer friend. When the doctor gets home, he has a bill in his mailbox from the lawyer.

Anonymous said...

I highly doubt it was simply a matter of the Board "chose not to renew her contract" if it is in fact true she was escorted away. Where's the details Kingfish?

Anonymous said...

A LONG TIME COMING!!! She was running that place into the ground.

The fat lady has sung and left the building...

Wonder who is next on the list?

She had the wool pulled over those doctor’s eyes. Good bye, you horrible, nasty woman.

@11:10 AM 11/29
Someone whose last name begins with a Z, since diplomas are usually handed out in alphabetical order?

Ding dong the witch is GONE!

"Kanosky was known throughout the Capital area as a controversial figure, unwilling to make reasonable compromise, fighting unnecessary battles and often times pitting physician groups against other physician groups."

How is this unacceptable, yet this is the exact same behavior of POTUS exhibits? Double standard?

For years, Charmange has treated people terribly. She is a mean spirited person who clearly is hateful as a mechanism to cope with deep seated issues. She needs sincere prayers.

Anonymous said...

I was involved with the selection of Charmain beck in the early 1990's. I can say without hesitation that her background and education were checked thoroughly. She was a highly qualified candidate, and her main competition was attorney Lynn Watkins, who was the head of the ACLU at the time and not the person to represent medical professionals, to be diplomatic.

Although not perfect, Charmain has done a good job doing what HER ORGANIZATION wanted done. That is what a lobbyist or state administrator does... what her bosses want done. It is the nature of the beast that you will step on some feet when you fight the battles every year in our state legislature. However, there is usually a winner and then a or some loser(s). The medical association won most of its battles the last two decades, so she obviously did her job.

Anonymous said...

KF— you are the best for trying to keep Charmain honest all these years. Man did she have this coming for her. Doctors are celebrating throughout Mississippi today.

Anonymous said...

@2:02– HER ASSOCIATION?? Isn’t MSMA a physician association? Not sure she graduate from a university—- but definitely sure she didn’t graduate from medical school.

Anonymous said...

Woohoo for Jennifer— a woman finally taking real leadership at MSMA.

If they is one thing you can't trust, it's 'sauces'.

I have heard that goober, John Weiner, a thousand times in commercials clamoring about Doctor Kanosky. I can't remember if he's a 'hand center' doctor, a plastic doctor or a hair transplant specialist.

The Metro has its share of people who need to be put on slow trains.

Care to elaborate?

This is incredible news for the House of Medicine.

Anonymous said...

They have been talking about doing this for years but Charmain used Soviet style tricks to keep her power. I’m shocked the Medical Qween has finally been toppled.

Anonymous said...

Couldn’t have happened to a better b*t*h

"Soviet style tactics"? Really? Where are the bodies?

Anonymous said...

@5:57– or German style. Both work.

405. This is terrbile news for the highest trained professionals in the state. Nurses will be taking over EVERYTHING now.

Anonymous said...

She was escorted out of the building by the Treasurer of MSMA and two attorneys. I think all physicians should remind the Board of MSMA that if fiscal malfeasance occurred, that the Board needs to fulfill its fiduciary responsibility by seeking restitution and/or by filing criminal complaints. That money comes from the membership fees of the member physicians. The Board owes it to their members.

God bless America. God bless Mississippi. And God bless Dr. Jennifer Bryan.

It's not at all unusual to escort terminated professionals out of the building. But usually there's the traditional, ten minute cardboard-box step preceding the hall-walk.

Second post made less sense than the first. Sounds like to me some doctor needs to put away the crack pipe. When a 'doctor' can't make sense, it's a 'terrbile' situation. A travesty and terrbile.

I served on the MSMA board and Charmain did a good job. She is a lawyer and was a lobbyist for the MSMA prior to taking over the director position from Bill Roberts. She is tough. But, you need a tough person for that job. Getting doctors together is like herding cats!

9:31- not a lawyer.

Good riddance to her. This decision by the MSMA Board of Trustees was long overdue to correct the mistake of the 5 to 4 vote to hire her 10 years ago. Veteran MSMA leaders at the time predicted that her tenure as the Executive Director would be a debacle. It was.
She was ruthless, widely disliked, and feared by all of the MSMA staff. The Empress with no clothes ruled by intimidation and retribution, with no one to hold her in check, including the well intentioned MSMA leaders that she manipulated and deceived.
Her precipitous departure proves the adage that what goes around comes around. In the end, it took only a proverbial bucket of water thrown in her direction to make her disappear into a puff of smoke. Ding dong, the Wicked Witch is gone and there is much celebration at
MSMA and throughout the medical community. Maybe some of the wonderful staff members and physicians who left MSMA because of her will return now and MSMA can again be the great organization it was under more inclusive and open minded leaders. The MSMA would be fortunate if all of her minions and henchmen who perpetuated her reign of terror would also disappear into the floor. The Board of Trustees now has the task of cleaning up a 10 year mess and hiring a new Executive Director who can restore trust in the organization, internally and externally. The Board of Trustees owes it to its members and the public to give a full accounting of the issues that led them to behead the Queen. Justice has finally been served. Hallelujah!

Just an example of another lie she told the Board being an attorney re: 9:31

Tooth Missing said...

Saw her on the cover of our neighborhood magazine one time. Was always curious how she landed her job.

Anonymous said...

The story is: She got the Executive Director job because she was the lobbyist for the Association. In that job, she was very effective and successful. The medical assn rarely lost a legislative battle during her tenure. However once she moved up, she apparently made some enemies judging by the reaction on this blog.

Anonymous said...

^^431 maybe her actions and bad behavior caused her to be escorted off the premises. Wonder what the Board will find in her emails and on her computer hardrive. As they say, “Her goose is cooked.”

Scott Hambleton doesn’t represent me either.

i hear there were two other firings at MSMA this afternoon, what gives?

6:31 finally— someone coming in a cutting the fat created at the fat farm. This is good leadership.

Anonymous said...

I work at a state agency and received a call from one of those released today. They were hysterical and shocked. I was not shocked. The employee was never upfront with us or providers they represented. Probably for the best.

6:31- Whats going on is someone is cleaning the daggum house. Much needed exercise around the Fall time. I remember the lyrics of an old country song that my Daddy used to listen to...it went something like this ‘she lied her last lie and now she done cried her last cry.’ Another fat woman has sung and left the building. Happy New Year!

Yesterday’s termination was needed. She gossiped about doctors all over this town. Not a good representation for our medical community.

Anonymous said...

I would like to ask all who are commenting to review the years under Mrs. Kanosky's leadership at the capital. Folks the doctors got what ever they asked for!!!! That is what an executive director does....follows their Boards
requests. She most certainly did that and believe me you did not want to be on opposite sides of her at the capital because she was very effective. Shame of the Medical Association for not giving her the respect that she has earned
and allowing her to resign.....or maybe they are covering up things. I hope she blows the whistle on the whole group. Mrs. Kanosky is very respected at the capital. I wish her well and I hate that her Board has shined such a negative light on her in their actions.

Anonymous said...

@2:41. Hi! Dr. Easterling. It’s capitol not capital.

Anonymous said...

2:41-- you are out of the loop if you think Charmain is well liked by physicians. She fell out of grace years ago. Similar to a physician who lost an election in Vicksburg who I was happy to be able to vote against. (Remember when our Association spent over $100,000 supporting the loser in that House race. That's should be cause for termination right there.)

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
