Senate Race Thread.

OK, here is your chance to comment on the Senate and congressional races . I'll do a separate one for the judicial races.  Fire away.

Who's running?

Anonymous said...

I'm voting Cindy! She got a bunch accomplished at the Ag Museum and Fairgrounds. She is still a fairly new one in Washington, but I believe her to be honest and hardworking.

McDaniels is probably a true conservative but he seems contentious and arrogant to me.

Espy has been there before.

Anonymous said...

I may be on an island, but, to me, both senate races in Mississippi are complete yawners.

Anonymous said...

I was VERY disappointed to hear about CHS voting in favor of Planned Parenthood at some point in the past.

Google Cindy Hyde-Smith + Breitbart.com for the news article reporting this.

With this news, I have to vote for McDaniel tomorrow. I'm also confident that Mississippi will
elect a true conservative in any run-off against Espy.

Anonymous said...

I have yet to see McDaniel have an add or anything NOT attacking his opponent. He is a whiney cry baby that stands on no other platform than to sling mud and throw stones. If he wants to be in Washington and be a leader, he needs to man up, prove that he's a leader, and rise above the name calling and state why he is better than the other and not cry about establishments and look like a child.

Anonymous said...

The only thing I care about in either of these races is whether McDaniel will just go away when he loses tomorrow. He is an embarrassment and stain on our state. Mississippi's Roy Moore. And he cares nothing for Mississippi or America, only Chris McDaniel. Just what we need in Washington: another career politician who is concerned about his own interests instead of those of our country.

i definitely won’t vote for Mike “Tyson Foods Bribery Scandal” Espy. remember? Or does everyone seem to have forgotten?

George said...

When Espy left for Washington back in the day he got all of his MS field staff choice USDA Rural Development management six figure jobs. Fact. Funny how those jobs just h a p p e n e d to be open at the right time. Obviously they were "best qualified".

Anonymous said...

I'm voting McDaniel, although I am convinced he will likely come up short. He's the true constitutional conservative in the special election, something we do not have enough of in Washington. In a runoff between Hyde-Smith and Espy, I would vote for her, thought not enthusiastically. In the regular Senate election, I'll be voting Wicker while desperately wishing we had a more small-government conservative running instead.

you're throwing your vote away if you go with mcdaniel. just go for CHS. make trump happy

Smith by default.

And "de-fault" of Epsy being a scandal tainted lawyer for horribly rich and generally horrible 'morgan&morgan'
and McDaniel being a buffoon who pushes the needle on megalomania. There are enough narcissistic politicians in D.C.; adding to their number will not help.

People can and should change their minds: Smith's past is distant, the other two are no recommendation and are current.

McDaniel rode a reactionary wave in 2014 by spouting off talking points and pandering to the "Surrender, HELL!" crowd who were fed up with Obama and his PC police. That outrage was what fueled Trump's victory.

It's a different time now, but McDaniel is the same. He's rattling off tired old tea party rhetoric circa 2013 that is no longer resonant with voters. He doesn't have a lick of originality or independent thought. He's still trying to rally the "save the flag" people, for Pete's sake!

I'm a strong conservative and I know an opportunist when I smell one and I smell one in Chris McDaniel. He's a clown and a narcissist. Do not support this knucklehead.

Holding my nose and voting for Beavis.

I'm voting McDaniel. Cindy Hyde Smith is the epitome of entitled, hand picked, RINO big government liberals masquerading as conservatives when it comes time to campaign. It's time Mississippi sends a conservative to DC for once!

And yes she did vote to fund Planned Parenthood AND she refused to debate!

Anonymous said...

Voting Hyde-Smith. McDaniel won't sniff 20% and will finish a distant 3rd. Pretty telliing that many who were vocal backers for him in 2014 are all in for CHS this cycle.

Anonymous said...

Roger Wicker is a center/right moderate who will be good for Mississippi for years to come. I'll vote for him. CHS is a center/left moderate who will have to be watched. She will be strong for Mississippi agricultural interests. Espy will vote with the Schumer/Sanders leftists in DC. I'll vote for CHS.

anonymous said...

Don't know McDaniel from Adam but my gut tells me you wouldn't have to look far for some dirt to show up. They're not going to use it now but if he wins the first go around rest assured some bomb will be dropped a la Roy Moore before the run off. The media will paint Mississippi as an immoral back water if we send him to the Senate after the allegations. In goes Espy and maybe lose the Senate.

Anonymous said...

I'm voting for all y'alls Mamas. They are true Mississippi Queens.

Two years from today and six years from today, we will still be #50 in everything so who cares? We are all just suckers in their eyes.

This comment is of course assumes Puerto Rico does not become a state.

Anonymous said...

Definitely not voting for any of these pervy conservies, Espy has the experience.

Anonymous said...

First, CHS did vote with Sen Paul to defund PP, but it didn't pass. Then in an 85 to 7 vote the continuing resolution did pass which still had the funding for PP. So, this was one of those situations to get the defense spending you had to go along to get along.

Anonymous said...

In the Wicker race I am going to write in "A True Conservative."

In the Espy/CHS race I have been flopping back and forth between CHS and McDaniel. I could even pull the lever for Espy, an experienced Washington hand, BUT I cannot take the chance that Espy will simply be another vote for the Schumer/Sanders wing of the Senate. If I thought Espy had the stones to stand up to Chuck, I would vote for him, as I think he would do his best to represent both the black AND white folks (whose votes he will need) of Mississippi. Just cannot take the chance. . .

Oh well, it looks like CHS for me.

Anonymous said...

I always knew that JJ had a few Confederate flag waving Mize, Mississippi types, but I'm disappointed that there are so many who can't see through McDaniel's BS.

Anonymous said...

Mike Espy is a brilliant lawyer. People were convicted of giving him bribes but he was acquitted of taking them. Brilliant.

Anonymous said...

Espy is his own man and has the experience to be an effective voice for MS in Washington. McDaniel is not stable. CHS does not have the smarts or the guts to do anything except parrot Trump’s babble. Give Espy your vote.

Anonymous said...

We are voting for McDaniel and cannot wait to do so.

I read that the recently "reformed" democrat, Hillary and Planned Parenthood supporter CH-S, like Bennie the bag man, does not display our state flag at her senate office as is senate custom, but she poses in front of it for a campaign ad. She will flap whichever way the wind blows and we have too many RINOs already.

Anonymous said...

12:27, we are not electing high school annual staff. It's a battle for America and we need a warrior. Only McDaniel fits that need. Please reconsider. Thank you.

Anonymous said...

I’m voting for CHS and Wicker. The Kavanaugh hearing convinced me that no Democrat can be trusted. So that eliminates Baria and Espy. I’m not overwhelmed with CHS but I don’t think Chris McDaniel can beat Espy in a runoff. Plus, McDaniel and his supporters are card carrying crazy.

Not that you asked but I think the GOP barely holds the House and ends up with a 55-45 majority in the Senate. RBG will be the next Supreme Court Justice to drop and Trump will nominate Amy Coney Barret to replace her. This will make Rachel Maddow have a full blown nervous breakdown on live TV.

Anonymous said...

A crook, a state senator that couldn't show up to vote in the state senate, and a sitting US Senator that has the backing of the POTUS? Seems like an easy choice to me! CHS all. the. way. Plus...we need a little estrogen to balance out the nuts.

Anonymous said...

Mississippians are going to vote themselves right to the poor house. Soybean sales to China are down 94% due to trade sanctions.

Anonymous said...

I hope your prediction is correct! @ 4:30 pm

Anonymous said...

I've grown weary of the Republican Party I always supported. I'll vote for Espy. At least he'll stand against Trump when needed and the Bennie Thompsons when needed. He's proven that.

Anonymous said...

This will make Rachel Maddow have a full blown nervous breakdown on live TV.

That would be marvelous.

Anonymous said...

I voted absentee. When I got to the Senate elections, as a life long Republican, I could not vote for Cindy because of the Republicans in our state and the games they play. After years of always voting Republican, I voted for Mike. There will be a run-off between Cindy and Mike. And, I voted for David, even through Wicker will win; history indicates those who win by landslides usually don't do well in office.

Anonymous said...

Mike Espy. My second choice would be Chris McDaniel. Cindy is a rubber stamp.

Anonymous said...

Just think of the 10,000 people coming to the border. That is what Democrats want. Let them in. CHS is the best choice. Too much is at stake.

Paul Mitchell said...

Voting McDaniel, I will never vote for a Democrat and Espy is the quintessential Democrat. Take bribes, back the most anti-business policies imagineable, and slaughter babies, just like Hyde-Smith used to support when she was a Democrat.

If THAD! would have simply done the right thing two years ago, we would not be at this point.

Republicans unwillingness to stand up for the constitution is forcing me to vote democrat for the first time. This election is about Trump and I have never been on the opposite side of every single action Ike I have been with his lying ass. It likely won’t be the last as I no longer relate to a single issue they are jawing off about.

Anonymous said...

I plan to vote against Trump. I'm quite a bit younger than most on this board and his presidency has shown me how some of the events in our history have happened. I'm not saying he is Hitler, but it certainly makes it easier to see how Hitler was able to take power and get the state to go along with his craziness. The assault on the first amendment with the Muslim ban and trying to outlaw media and have people assassinate his detractors is such a hard line that I can't believe people are willing to cross with him. I'm constantly shocked at how many American are willing to go along with this craziness and the Republicans unwillingness to stand up to him in any way will likely cost them my vote for life.

Anonymous said...

Let's face it, it's incredibly difficult to get excited about ANY of the candidates in the MS Senate races! Therefore, once again, we're faced with having to hold our noses and picking the "least objectionable" amongst them.

Let's look at the list:

Espy -

Former disgraced Clinton administration official: Well, OK
Morgan & Morgan attorney: another blood-sucking opportunist, so almost a disqualifier
Sure to caucus with Shumer, Durbin, Booker, and Sanders: DISQUALIFIED!

McDaniel -

State Senator: doesn't have a really good record in this respect, especially not in his number of votes cast
Prior senatorial run: everyone advised him to back off after the race or it would ruin his political future....but he didn't, and they were right. Now, no one takes him seriously. Chris, that many people CAN'T be wrong: DISQUALIFIED!

Hyde-Smith -

Former democrat who, allegedly, voted for Hillary: almost a disqualifier
Now, clearly an establishment Republican: another strike against her, but since the other two are disqualified, she's all that's left in this race

Baria -

Trial lawyer: again, probably a blood-sucking opportunist
Sure to caucus with the above despicable names: DISQUALIFIED!

Wicker -

Said he wouldn't run more than 6 or 7 times (or whatever number it was) for his house seat......but he did: another self-serving politician
Clearly and establishment republican: almost a disqualifier
Calls Mitch McConnell every morning to find out how he should plan his day and how he should vote: again, should be a disqualifier, but we have to vote for someone.

Hyde-Smith and Wicker.......but only by default

Anonymous said...

When it comes to the courts, the absolute most important reason to vote Republican, it really maters not whether Hyde-Smith or McDaniel goes to the U S Senate; just as long as it’s not the Democrat!

Voting for Hyde Smith is the best bet. Espy taking up for McDaniel and the Jackson Free Press giving him an interview proves they want to run against McDaniel. Having said this, if McDaniel beats Hyde Smith and is in a run off with Espy, I will be McDaniel’s biggest fan. Hopefully all other Hyde Smith voters will as well, and hopefully McDaniel’s voters will provide full support to Hyde Smith if she’s against Espy.

Otherwise Repubs eat their own (again) and Mississippi ends up with a Mob Rule Leftist Totalitarian Chuck Schumer puppet in the U S Senate.

CONSERVATIVES just remember Franklin D. Roosevelt’s grandfather Warren Delano’s quote “While all Democrats are not horse-thieves, all horse-thieve are Democrats.”

Today he would likely say, “while all Democrats are not carjackers, all carjackers are Democrats;” or “while all Democrats are not thugs, almost every thug is a Democrat.”

So vote for whoever you prefer, Hyde Smith or McDaniel, then offer your full support to the whoever ends up in a runoff with the “Democrat” because Trump’s SCOTUS picks may just be what saves our country!

To 6:25:

It’s obvious that you are much younger than most on this board. I would recommend that you balance your reading of MotherJones.com with The Wall Street Journal and other news organizations that have a highly educated staff of writers who try to present issues in a fair manner. I’m not pleased with everything Trump does but unlike any politician that I have seen in my long life, he gets results and he tries to do everything he said he was going to do in the 2016 campaign. Trump is not Hitler and when the left tries to compre him to Hitler, it makes them appear to not be serious and I think such comparisons are highly offensive to Jewish people. “The Art of the Deal” will never be confused with “Mein Kampf”.

Trying to outlaw media? Assassinate his detractors? Please provide some specific examples. Pretty serious charges. Trump’s feud with the media is no different than any othe President in my memory. Trump just seems to better at getting under the skin of the media than any other President. The mailing of the bombs that didn’t explode was by a crazy person. We do have a serious problem with mental illness in the USA. But you can’t blame Trump for this incident any more than you can blame Obama for the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary.

Our votes will cancel each other out and that’s ok. I’m very pleased with our economy’s turnaround, Trump’s SCOTUS selections, and his foreign policy 2 years into his Presidency. I hope Trump has a majority in the Senate and the House so he can continue to make good on his campaign promises.

New Poll released today, see it at Breitbart.com.

McDaniel has pulled ahead of Hyde-Smith!

Espy 40%
McDaniel 28%
Hyde-Smith 27%

People are seeing through Hyde-Smith. She is a RINO , and the refusal to debate and Planned Parenthood vote will take her down.

McDaniel will grow and be a Rand Paul/Ted Cruz type U.S. Senator. He'll do us proud.

And he'll win the run-off.

Stand up and do the right thing tomorrow, Mississipians.

7:39, never read mother jones. I get news from a variety of sources and make up my own mind, but thanks for your thoughts.

I just don't understand when Trump supporters applaud him for as they say "telling it like it is." He is literally the least honest politician in my lifetime. He even admits to lying when it's convenient. The only thing I can come up with is they appreciate the racism. What other explanation makes sense?

I just can't grasp supporting a party that is going to lie and cheat their way to the top no matter the harm it does to this country. There are scary times and Trump is the enemy of the Constitution as far as I am concerned.

What is your take on calling the media the "Enemy of the people"? Do you believe in a free press or should they tell the lies Trump wants them to?

What is your take on the Muslim ban? Should freedom of religion be allowed?

What is your take on Fox News pulling his immigration ad for being racist? Why does everyone see his racism except the 60+ year old supporters who thinks he is just "Telling it like it is"?

What is your take on his unwillingness to call out domestic terrorists? Are you ok with inciting so much fear that the mentally unstable go on murdering rampages against Trump's enemies?

What is your take on the constant lies? Have you ever heard a factual statement come out of his mouth? Do you believe all the crazy conspiracy theories he spouts with absolutely zero proof.

What is your take on him calling women horse-faced? How about him wanting to date his own daughter? How about when he called Megyn Kelly a bimbo? What's your take on him paying off the pornstars he paid for affairs?

What's your take on a new indictment/guilty plea by his staff seemingly once every couple weeks?

What's your take on Trump using an executive order to change the 14th amendment?

Anonymous said...

8:21, “He (Trump) is literally the least honest politician in (your) lifetime?” Are you not older than 2?

The only argument I can think of more proving of one’s naivety than when people speak of politicians lying, as if all politicians don’t, is when Democrats make it a point to talk about Republicans lying. Kettle calling the pot black would be a severe understatement.

“If you like your doctor you can keep your doctor. If you like your healthcare plan you can keep your healthcare plan. And oh yea by the way DA Sheep, healthcare costs are going to go down.” Is there anyone out there that can even estimate how many different times pathological liar Obama told just these 3 lies (not including Obama’s promise to post every bill that passed Congress online for five days before signing the legislation, etc. etc., etc.)?

And what about your last presidential nominee Hillary Clinton? Lord please help us on where we would start with how many lies she’s told throughout her abusive women husband enabling career.

What about “But I want to say one thing to the American people. I want you to listen to me. I'm going to say this again: I did not have sexual relations with that woman, Miss Lewinsky. I never told anybody to lie, not a single time; never. These allegations are false. And I need to go back to work for the American people. Thank you.” If you have to guess who said this you might want to consider never posting on a message board again.

Understand this 8:21, if you are going to argue for Democrats, never use integrity, or the Republicans lack thereof. Because while all politicians lie, and almost all are corrupt, Democrats take it to a level so very far beyond Republicans, and the boundaries of their corruption are only those in which they believe cannot get away with.

For some closer to home examples read the liberal Ole Miss law professor’s book “The Fall of the House of Zeus” and/or Kings of Tort if you want some good ole home grown Democrat supporting trial lawyers engaged in judge bribing.

If you want examples of politicians lying in absolute art form, you can start with studying the Kennedy’s, and how old Joe turned what should have been a JFK court martial into him becoming a hero, good ole Teddy and Chappaquiddick, etc., etc., etc., etc., etc. Or, you just watch the recent Kavanaugh hearings.

8:21 remember this: the only group of people more capable than politicians of making lying an art form…are so-called journalists. Good luck to you; I hope you become learned one day.

Okay, 10:47, since you asked.

Free press - Trump is saying that the members of the press who fabricate and spread lies are indeed enemies of the people. Yes, we need a free press, but not so free that lies and libel are not only allowed, but encouraged.

Muslim ban - Muslims are coming into the country every day. Muslims are being allowed to practice their religion without any interference from the government. This is a false flag argument.

Racist ad - Just because it refers to an ethnic group in an unflattering way doesn't make it false. Find me an Irish member of MS-13 and we'll talk some more.

Failure to call out domestic terrorists - Another false flag argument. He calls them out every time they commit a crime.

Constant lies - Nonsense, but if it makes you feel better...

Treatment of women - He only called one woman horse faced, not all of them. His method of communication is sometimes crude and offensive, but it doesn't flow into his policy positions.

Staff indictments - They're not Trump, and it's not as often as you say.

Executive order to change the 14th amendment - He can't do it without a challenge. The Supreme Court will have to decide, but there are arguments that might be in his favor.

You seem like a bright young lady. I know it's difficult to calm down and just look at the facts, but you should give it a try.

The lie about cleaning up the swamp is I think the most egregious. The shocking number of indictments and convictions makes it obvious this administration is both incompetent and corrupt. At this pace, Trump may actually be able to break Nixon's record for convictions.

For anyone interested in the breakdown of the numbers of the last few before Trump, here your go:

Nixon: 76 Indictments, 55 Convictions
Ford: 1 Indictment, 1 Convictions
Carter: 1 Indictment, 0 Convictions
Reagan: 26 Indictments, 16 Convictions
Bush 1: 1 Indictment, 1 Conviction
Clinton: 2 Indictments, 1 Conviction
Bush 2: 16 Indictments, 16 Convictions
Obama: 0 Indictments, 0 Convictions

There seems to be a trend, but I can't quite figure it out.

3) He has authored many bills to create specialty car tags

4) He has kept the image of the "Free State of Jones" intact and in fact, probably moved the image even moreso in many people's minds

While I wouldn’t wish on any decent human being what those slime ball no integrity whatsoever Mob Rule Leftist Totalitarians did to Justice Brett Kavanaugh, Senate Leftist, without doubt, handed the U S Senate majority to Republicans last night, due to their shameless and unforgivable actions.

If we were to get another SCOTUS pick (or two) before the Senate and POTUS flips again, this would be POETIC JUSTICE for what they did to a good man.

Just think where we would be this morning if Donnelly, Heitkamp & McCaskill had not had their sorry Chuck Schumer Puppet asses thrown to the curb. We would be looking at a R-50, D-47, I-2 situation, hoping and praying the majority of McDaniel’s supporters will not do as Repubs are so famous for doing by chopping off their noses to spite their faces because they didn’t get their way.

With Super Hero that stayed way too long and turned into Super Zero McCain out, and the Flake gone as well (although we are very much obliged for his Kavanaugh vote!), let us hope and pray we keep one less Mob Rule Leftist Totalitarian out of the Senate by electing Hyde-Smith later this month, then keep the Senate and a Repub POTUS in place long enough to shape the courts in a way that might just go down in history as saving America from the socialism loving, communism loving, let anybody in our country that will vote Dem loving, violence loving, Mob Rule Leftist Totalitarians.

@7:16, did you forget to take your medicine this morning?

@12:19 - California admits that they allowed 1,500 illegals to register to vote via their DMV.

7:16, I was stunned to finally get through your tirade to see you were a Cindy supporter. You have more of a crazy McDaniel persona. It's contagious. Be safe. Vote Espy.

Like I said before, minuscule numbers that impact nothing. Not a serious issue.

Runoff - CHS 56%, Espy 44%

Senator Espy...sounds good.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
