Hyde-Smith Accepts Debate Invitation

The Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith campaign issued the following statement.

Republican Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith has accepted an invitation from Mississippi Farm Bureau to debate her Democrat opponent, Mike Espy, on Nov. 20.

Sen. Hyde-Smith’s campaign received and accepted the debate invitation from Mississippi Farm Bureau on Wednesday. The invitation outlined the plans for the event to be widely available, including television and radio broadcasts.
“With the U.S. Senate being in session for several days next week, and the Thanksgiving holiday taking place later this month, the proposed date of Nov. 20 is ideal for voters to have an opportunity to learn the clear differences between conservative Republican Cindy Hyde-Smith and liberal Democrat Mike Espy,” said Melissa Scallan, communications director for Sen. Hyde-Smith’s campaign.
“Cindy looks forward to a robust debate about the major issues facing our state and country, and to outline the clear choice voters have in this important runoff election.”

Wow!! Surprising. Hope she doesn’t come off sounding like a ditz

Bad decision CHS.

Judging from the vote count, Cindy better be ready to say more than "I support Trump" and reciting the tired old Republican canned lines. Now that Republicans have a majority in the US Senate, Mississippi voters are more open to voting for Mike.

CHS to Espycrat: "Checkmate."

funny how with McDaniel out of the way..a debate will happen.

Anonymous said...

Yeah, CHS had better prepare for this debate. I can't imagine that Espy is a real strong debater, but he's no dummy either. 10:34 is right, she had better come up with some different responses than her typical drivel.

Anonymous said...

I seriously doubt this will ever happen. My bet is Trump will decide to do a campaign rally that day to give her a scheduling conflict and an excuse for backing out.

If Sarah Palin can survive a debate without looking like the moron she really was, then don't underestimate Minnie Pearl.

Its better to remain silent and thought a fool than open your mouth and confirm it.

Judging from the vote count, Cindy better be ready to say ...

Only a loon would seriously believe McDaniel voters will come over to Espy.

Mississippi voters are more open to voting for Mike.

Espy's high water mark was Tuesday. His only hope is turnout. There will be no new converts from CHS or McDaniel voters. He shot his wad and it was unimpressive.

At this point, a debate is just free advertising for another blood-sucking plaintiff's attorney. Espy knows he won't win, but I'm betting John Morgan is making sure he goes through with it anyway, because ANY publicity is better than NO publicity......

Will McDaniel sue to be included?

Will McDaniel sue to be included?

Of course not. Not that he has lost will you continue to contribute with stupid comments until the runoff is decided?

Cindy put on your boots and grab your muck shovel your gonna need them with this POS.

Espy sounds like Cleveland on Family Guy. The one that got away, what a great political cartoon that has been scrubbed off the net, it was Espy as a giant catfish with a hook still in his mouth. Fond memories.

Anonymous said...

If a tree falls in the woods and no one is around to hear it, does it make a noise?

That is the story for this debate.

Mike Espy is so sexy

Anonymous said...

According to Espy Campaign Spokesman, who moonlights as MS Today Reporter, Bobby Harrison, Espy has not agreed to FB debate and wants better terms and conditions. He wants the MPB and Millsaps debate first.

Espy will make CHS look like the bumpkin she is. Embarrasing.

@ 11:31 - I did not read it as McDaniel voters would vote for Espy. I doubt if they will even show up for the run-off election.

However, many of the Cindy supporters voted for Cindy because they were worried about the Democrats controlling the Senate, and now that is no longer an issue, they may be open to listening to and voting for Espy, whose supporters will be out in droves for the run-off election.

If Cindy and her folks aren't worried about the run-off election, they should be. This could end up being another Roy Moore-Doug Jones situation, which has already gotten the Alabama Republicans realizing that they need to have a stronger candidate in the next senatorial election and not take the Republican voters for granted.

You can thank Gov. Feel, Tate, and others Trump Republicans for this mess. Instead of nominating Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, Gov. Feel should have appointed Delbert Hosemann and there would be no run-off.

Anonymous said...

I'm sure CHS will bring up Espy's past and hammer away. McDaniel people won't vote Espy. They might not vote at all but Espy has gotten as far as he should go. Espy will try to make CHS look inept but Espy has the record of that. Should be a wash.

this is a joke debate if it isn't on statewide tv. You could utilize MPB and Supertalk, or have WLBT and their sister stations show the debate.

A Facebook Live debate is pathetic.

I was told last week (by the firm) that Espy is no longer employed by Morgan ah Morgan ah Morgan. His office is 'across the hall'. But, his son is an officed attorney in the M&M suite.

So; Will she show up in boots (polished by Phil), a starched denim shirt and that shit-shovel she uses in commercials?

She damned shore better be prepared to offer more than, "I'm a lifelong conservative, I have a cow-farm and I rode four times in the Dixie National in the back of a pickup".

"Now that Republicans have a majority in the US Senate, Mississippi voters are more open to voting for Mike."

Pay attention - Republicans have had this majority for a number of years.

Bad decision. She will get the McDaniel vote without doing anything. Hard to believe this is the best three candidates we can come up with.

Anonymous said...

@2:47 PM, "another Roy Moore-Doug Jones situation"? ROFLMAO Put down that bong.

Anonymous said...

247, I am sure glad you are a political advisor to Delbert rather than to someone that would be good in office. Your 'analysis' of how her voters might take a look at Espy now, and knowing what McDaniel voters will or won't do (granted, some will not show up, but many do actually care about how the country is governed and to them the seat doesn't need to go to a Dem, especially one who's history is one of a politician in it for his personal benefit only).

And to thank Tate for the appointment (along with Feel) shows real stupidity. If you think he had any say-so into who was appointed, except maybe to have turned it down if offered to himself, you obviously don't know diddly-squat about political relationships in this state.

But that makes sense since it appears you are an ardent supporter of Delbert. Hell, you might even be Delbert himself.

3:22, it will be on WLBT, which means potentially WTOK, WLOX, WDAM and WCBI may also air it.

Read This Kim Wade said...

Charlie Cook:

This is also going to make it next to impossible for Democrats to ditch Nancy Pelosi, the first female Speaker of the House.

During the campaign, 37 Democrats on the DCCC's "Red to Blue" list publicly opposed Pelosi for Speaker. But of those 37, only ten prevailed, and another five are in races that are too close to call. And, a few "no" votes won with such comfortable enough margins that they are probably flippable.

Republicans, looking for a silver lining after Tuesday, are gleeful at the prospect of her return and argue it makes Democrats the instant underdogs to keep what may only be a 12-15 seat majority heading into 2020. After all, these Democrats campaigned on changing Washington and challenging both parties' leaders. Instead, their very first vote would be to fall in line behind the San Francisco-led old guard.

Indeed, it's the Democrats who look like the more divided party as they assume power in the House. Their newcomers, mostly hailing from swing suburbs, campaigned on healthcare and pocketbook issues, not Russia, tweets or Trump. But the incoming committee chairs, almost all from urban and coastal districts, each have their lists of about 9,000 reasons to investigate the executive branch.

Espy should be ashamed of himself for even considering debating the handicapped.

Which ever one of them that can send some pot-hole grant money to Jacktown will be the winner.

I have been a McDaniel supporter from the get go, will be voting Espy. Will not support Feel and Pork Chop Haley!!!

Anonymous said...

I voted for McDaniel and I will be voting for Espy. I don’t like him, but when I vote for him, I know what I’ll be getting. He’s a liberal Democrat who crooked. With CHS, who knows what she will morph into next. First a Democrat that voted for Hillary Clinton. Now a Trump conservative. She’s a half-wit hillbilly.

Anonymous said...

You McDanielologists are going to cost us all. I don’t like CHS, but you bet your ass I’ll take her over an unapologetic democrat. Obviously, she’ll tow the party line, or she wouldn’t be there. Malleability is the primary requirement for Haley and the boys. Yes, I know Feel is the governor. Better the devil that can be controlled than the one who pays tribute to Pelosi and the gang,

Looks like the last 2 commenters have a lot of spite since their man McDaniel on got 16% of the vote. McDaniel has always reminded me of Andy Gipson, Mississippi Department of Agriculture & Commerce Commissioner.

Anonymous said...

8:10 & 8:47 are fake comments.

Anonymous said...

10:36 ~ Nope. Not fake. I’ll be voting for Espy.

I have NEVER voted for a Democrat. Ever. But think about it, BOTH Espy and CHS are Democrats. Both of them. So does it really matter?

I become the Republicans for not being able to put up better candidates than McDaniel and CHS. Both are terrible idiots. Espy is a scumbag. But, he’s getting my vote.

8:47, I will take a "half-wit hillbilly" committed to voting for Trump (or Pence's) SCOTUS picks over a Mob Rule Leftist Totalitarian Chuck Schumer Puppet every single day.

P. S. Please, you did not vote McDaniel and now support Espy. McDaniel supporters are NOT stupid and they’re NOT going from far right McDaniel to Commie Espy, just because they didn’t get their way.

GOP has the senate wrapped up. Send a message to the establishment and vote Espy

Bryant’s legacy comes down to this. She will make a fool of herself if she debates. She will win the election but remember she has to run again in two years and real opponents will be salivating after this debate.

Anonymous said...

A bunch of chs folks talking amongst themselves. Hillary would call you a “basket of deplorables.” CHS would agree since she voted for her.

Anonymous said...

That it's the Mississippi Farm Bureau and not , oh, The League of Women Voters or Mississippi Public Broadcasting or any college or university in the State makes me think this is a political stunt announcement .

The "debate rules" will be so obviously one-sided as to make Espy refuse so Cindy can claim he's afraid to debate.

Espy will be asked about his " indictment" of which he was acquitted and Hyde-Smith will get questions about programs that helped farmers while she was Ag Commissioner.

Are you THAT politically naïve that you can't see through something THIS obvious?

Anonymous said...

So Espy isn't a "real opponent"? If he can't make it happen the Donkeycrats have no one else.

Anonymous said...

Drinking game - lets all take a shot every time CHS says Trump during the debate.

Anonymous said...

5:28~ Yes. I voted for MCDaniel and will be voting for Espy. Consider it done.

Who the hell switches parties and thinks they can be taken seriously?

Anonymous said...

Any good bourbon recommendations for the debate drinking game? Also a shot for every time either candidate spits out a buzzword. We will all be pretty wasted 10 minutes in.

Anonymous said...

8:17 - what a short sighted view you must have.

Yes, it is the MS Farm Bureau. Yes, she was a Commissioner of Agriculture, and has a farming background.

BUT, Espy was a significant member of the House Agriculture Committee during his terms in Congress.

Then, Espy was Secretary of Agriculture. AGRICULTURE. Granted, he got canned for his corruption that exceeded that allowed within the lily-perfect Clinton administration, but still, he was head of the major issue of importance to the MS Farm Bureau.

This makes much more sense than any of the avenues that claim themselves to be unbiased. Universities? Get serious. MPB? Even more of a one-sided sponsor than a university.

Why not the MFP, who represents agriculture in the state having a former Commissioner of Agriculture and a former Secretary of Agriculture.

Makes sense to me.

CHS is the equivalent of the Dems running Hilary in the last presidential election. Poor move on Bryant's part. I believe a true debate will hurt her because she won't be able regurgitate the ol' boys' rhetoric like she does in her short interviews and pre-written speeches.

Anonymous said...

11:52 - I've been waiting for this. Please tell us about her 'farming background'. She claims now that it's her DAUGHTER who is a Fifth Generation farmer. But her daughter isn't running for office.

Pawl Bunyawn said...

Please tell me to whom she is pandering when she wears those God-Awful timber-jack shirts.

November 9 @ 11:52 - It's been three days since you posted that nonsense about her having a farm background and you were challenged to prove it. Do you need more time?

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
