Damn Lucky to be Alive

A shootout took place during a traffic stop in Washington County, Arkansas.  How the deputy survived is nothing short of a miracle.  Watch the video to the very end.

The Associated Press reported:

Police in Arkansas say no one was seriously hurt when a man opened fire on an officer during a traffic stop.

The shootout was captured in a dramatic dashcam video released by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office. The sheriff’s office says Cpl. Brett Thompson stopped a car Sunday for a traffic violation in Tontitown, about 150 miles (240 kilometers) northwest of Little Rock.

The video shows the car’s driver, 29-year-old Luis Cobos-Cenobio, open his door and begin firing at the officer. The sheriff’s office says Cobos-Cenobio drove off but was later arrested. He had a shoulder wound and was treated and released from a hospital.

Cobos-Cenobio remains jailed on preliminary charges of attempted capital murder, fleeing and drug violations. Jail records do not indicate whether he has an attorney.

Cobos-Cenobio is an illegal alien. I'm sure you knew that KF.

Terrible handgun grip technique, but at least he didn't hold it sideways like the inner city thugs do.

Fry his ass.

I want that officer to buy my next lotto tickets!

A bold pisolero for sure- the son-of-a-bitch.

1) 'terrible grip technique'? Can't argue with the accuracy though, can you?

2) During the dash cam video, why were none of the shots hitting the windshield?

3) Where the hell did that woman come from and why was she cuffed?

4) If the shooter was in front of the police vehicle, as evidenced by the dash cam, how did he manage to hit the rear and right side of the LEO vehicle?

The cartels are all over the US, the US is their main customer, Mexicans do not have enough money to make them rich. They will remain unnoticed until they are not. When they are not, it will be to late. Lessons will be learned. When you have unlimited power to murder, you are untouchable. Mr Jones is on a jury, Judge Johnson is presiding, Mr Smith is the prosecutor. The morning of the trial, their family members are kidnapped or murdered. When this happens on a regular basis our society is done. It could even be the family of any police officer who is gotten. We are playing with fire and for sure will be burned. Fire is coming. We haven't seen many cartel linked arrest though have we. The stomped on product they put in sedans on 20 are allowed to give photo ops for the war on drugs.

Their is a war using drugs but it is not what we hear. Drugs take out those it can and they make people useless.

The Zeta cartel was the first to be made up of former Mexican army and police officers, so they had advanced training. By looking at how this guy moved in a tactical position and still stayed cool while the bullets were whizzing, he’s had some kind of training.

It appears that he hit the police SUV’s back windows when the LEO was using it as a cover or some sort

Notice how he present a small target for the officer to shoot as well.

When police initiate a traffic stop, they usually do so for a traffic offense. They do not know sometimes that that person may have done a felony elsewhere and think that is what they are getting stopped for or the id would tell they were wanted. When the sheep cry that a chase was started over a simple tag violation(shoplifting), this is why police don't break off.

"It appears that he hit the police SUV’s back windows when the LEO was using it as a cover or some sort."

If positioned and drawing down on the cop, from the front of the cop's vehicle (as proven by the dash cam), it would be impossible to hit the rear window and side of the vehicle, regardless of what the LEO was doing. And, again, if the final photos show the windshield all shot-up, how come none of the perp's bullets were hitting the windshield in the video?

And who was the woman?

The shooter let the woman out of the car as he was fleeing. She started to walk away, and the deputy called her back.

This was shown on Live PD last night. Said the female was his girlfriend and made him stop and let her out.

Still no explanation for how the rear of the LEO vehicle got shot up or why no windshield shots on the video. Glad the officer is OK.

Anonymous said...

Why do you need explanation?

The LEO shot up the rear of the vehicle returning fire when he went to the rear of the vehicle for cover.

The camera is right on the windshield and would only pick up hits right in front of the camera. One can see glass bounce across the hood.

The BG was shooting THROUGH the windshield on the passenger side after he approached the front of the vehicle.

Why does he need to explain to YOU why he'd like an explanation? these are wide-angle lenses and this one clearly shows at least half the windshield. He could not hit the right side of the vehicle while standing in front of the vehicle. The officer clearly shot up his own vehicle.

Anonymous said...

It doesn't matter that they are "wide-angle lenses". The camera does not pick up any part of the actual windshield but the middle third.

If the officer clearly shot up his own vehicle, why does this not show up on film?

It doesn't take a rocket surgeon to figure out the entry/exit of bullets in a vehicle. But it obviously takes more logic than you idiots who not only do not even have mediocre reading comprehension, but obviously have no reality comprehension.

I'm glad KF allows anonymous comments so your friends and family don't get embarrassed by your stupid responses.

1. The bad guy's grip was for the most part text book. He has definitely had some training. The only issue I saw was that he was closing his left eye which is a pretty natural thing to do but limits his situational awareness.

2. Most of the bullet holes in the back of the cop truck seem to be from bullets fired by the officer. Since the bad guy was standing in front of the vehicle and only a moron would step out from behind cover in a situation like that, it makes sense that some of his shots would be fired through the vehicle. Given the panic of the situation, it makes even more sense.

3. Cameras give two dimensional images and can distort distances and position. It is VERY possible for positions to be misrepresented when shot from a single angle.

Trajectory of fire, what and where the rounds hit, and who was aiming at what is not what one should be concerned with in regards to this post.

Some commenters are missing the much larger picture at hand.

7:13...Ahoy, Goob! It doesn't show any of the officer's shots being fired or hitting targets, including those where he shot up his own vehicle. The perp was (almost) deadly accurate with his shots while the officer needs to be sent back to the classroom and to the shooting range.

LEO's always park on an angle, so as to make their own getaway easier if necessary; the perp shot the passenger side of the sheriff's vehicle, the windshield shots went through the rear of the Ford Exploder. The woman walked back at his command probably because she was innocent of anything other than being with the wrong man, perhaps not knowing his 'past.'

For those wondering, the tight group of holes in the windshield were likely made by the officer firing from a seated position. Attended a class years ago where that technique was taught. The days of waiting for someone to stick their head around a corner in a house are over. The walls are typically drywall. Put a nice group 10-12 inches to the back side of the corner and you'll usually see the other guy fall dead from around the corner. The time to learn defensive techniques is NOT in a firefight. Thank you John Shaw and the Mid-South Institute of Self Defense Shooting. Looks like the officer's training likely saved his life.

Any day you go home, is a good day!

7:13 you obviously have never been in an a firefight? Some times, you have to throw rounds down range NO MATTER WHAT THE SIGHT PICTURE IS. I'm the author of the 4:31 post and I've been in more than one firefight, you? STFU if you've never been there. Some times, you do what you need to do, to survive. I was taught in the 70's to fire the first round when the barrel clears the holster, that distracts the assailant. That training did me well when I was in my first armed encounter in Miami, after I left the metro area in the early 1980's. Say what you will, he survived and I don't care how many rounds he fired and hit his own vehicle, that's what you do in a firefight, release rounds to make the BG re-think his position, tactics. Grab a badge, bullet proof vest, uniform and get your ass out there. Come on Coach, put me in or bench my ASS.

ummm... 8:39pm, it's 7:38pm & 7:13am here.

Sport, I'm not sure to what it is you are referring to. I never had any training that taught me to fire my weapon indiscriminately. I did have training that taught me to attempt to put rounds on target ASAP, not just pop off a bang just to scare.

Now, I looked and I'm the only 7:13 post here and I'm not seeing the disagreement you think you must have.

Also, stating that you are the 4:31 author did nothing to clear anything up for me.

In my 7:13am post, I responded to 10:18 post that was in response to my 7:38pm post that stated "the officer clearly shot up his own vehicle" and the BG did not shoot through the windshield.

I'll explain the situation here:

The officer did not fire from a seated position inside his patrol vehicle. He had exited the vehicle and then retreated to the rear of the vehicle when the BG fired from the car seat. The officer remained at the rear of the vehicle, in cover, until the BG approached the front of the officer's vehicle.

The officer shot through the vehicle in defense of himself. He moved to the rear passenger side and shot. When the BG moved towards the front passenger side, the officer, firing his weapon moved to the driver's rear and then retreated, backpedaling towards the citizen pickup that was stopped and filming from behind his patrol vehicle.

The grouping of shots in the windshield were from the BG firing from cover in the front of the patrol car as the officer moved from passenger rear to driver's rear. Both exchanged shots through the middle of the vehicle. Also, the officer had landed 1 or 2 shots from the passenger rear of the vehicle towards the BG as he moved from the driver's front to the passengers front of the vehicle.

When the officer retreats rearward, the BG moves to the outside of the driver's front before getting back into his vehicle, he was firing on the officer as he was continuing to retreat further down the road.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required.
