There is apparently some honor among thugs after all. Pitrell Brister and his buddies tried to cram a life of crime into one night 2 1/2 years ago when they terrorized the Green Room and committed more crimes in one night. The Green Room bandits were all arrested, convicted, and sentenced this year. However, Brister pleaded guilty in exchange for a lighter sentence but when was time for him to testify, his trap went shut. The prosecutor asked the court yesterday to throw the tougher sentence at him since a deal is no longer a deal.
Pitrell Brister, Marquez Washington, and Katie Lynn had an appetite for some crime on April 11, 2015. They grabbed an entree at the Blue Chip Lounge at 4:15 AM. Unfortunately, that crime merely whetted their appetite for more misdeeds. They moved on to the Green Room on Bounds Street and robbed four people at gunpoint at 6:00 AM. They also beat one woman in the head and gave her severe injuries. However, they needed a dessert so they moved on to the Willow Point Apartments an hour later and burglarized several cars. The original JPD press release and mug shots are posted below.
A Hinds County grand jury indicted Brister for 9 counts of armed robbery, auto burglary, and attempted armed robbery in June 2015. Brister pleaded guilty in February to two counts of attempted armed robbery and one count of attempted aggravated assault. Judge Winston Kidd sentenced him to serve 20 years in prison but gave him credit for time served. Judge Kidd also ordered him to get a GED and complete anger management classes. However, the District Attorney remanded the charges for armed robbery and attempted auto burglary (5 counts). Brister is currently in prison.
However, young Brister agreed to testify against his accomplices but reneged on the deal to prove he ain't no snitch. Assistant District Attorney Greta Harris stated in a motion to modify that was filed yesterday:
On February 23, 2017 Defendant entered into a plea agreement with the State of Mississippi wherein he agreed to testify truthfully involving his co-Defendant Marquez Washington. The State made a recommendation for the sentencing of Pitrell Brister that included Defendant would testify truthfully in his co-defendant Marquez Washington's case in the event that Marquez Washington's case proceeded to trial. Marquez Washington did elect to have a trial by jury. Marquez Washington was found guilty on the counts involving the Complainants in this matter. However during the trial of Marquez Washington, Mr. Brister refused to testify.Credit for time served is probably two years. He only has to serve 50% of the sentence under HB #585. He would get out in 8 years and would be 30 years-old. He will have to serve another 7-8 years if the prosecutor has her way. The wages of silence appear to be more time in prison. Smart. Real smart.
Wherefore, premises considered, the State respectfully requests that the Defendant's sentence to be modified to include the original recommendation made by the State of Mississippi to include 35 years to serve.
Washington received a prison sentence of 35 years but only 5 years was suspended. Katie Lynn received a suspended prison sentence of 10 years and was placed on supervised probation for 2 years. She also agreed to testify against Brister and Washington.
Kingfish note: Nice job by the prosecutor in trying to hold him accountable. A deal is a deal until it's broken.

Who will get Judge Gowan's appointment? Heard he has put in his papers? Bill Skinner? Steve
Bout time Gowan turned it in. He's been a disappointment for the last 2 terms anyway.
No 50% on armed robbery. Day for day buddy.
11:50 You are worse than a loud mouthed unintelligent back seat driver. You have no clue what judges really do yet you know all the ins and outs. My guess is you can't or don't even vote. Just sit your arse down on the couch and bitch bitch bitch. Only good thing if he is retiring is he doesn't have to listen to losers like YOU.
4:25, I've know Bill For about the last 17 years, since he was at the Sheriff's Office as the highest paid Hinds County employee and did nothing as the County Attorney except for riding McMillans coat tails and then becoming Judge.
He had a good run for a few terms convicting Hinds County scum with integrity, but later when the County became pre dominently black, he then knew he had to become part of the majority and give light convictions, if he wanted to milk that $110,000 gravytrain he's been on.
Nice to see Bills family on here.
Gowan is a damn good judge. Knows the law and follows it.
Too bad about the robberies at the Green Room. While there the cops and ABC should determine if the Green Room’s special access gate used late night is to deter outside criminals or protect internal criminal activity, Like gambling and serving alcohol after the allowed times. How ABC has not raided them baffles me!
Dang 6:27. A bit salty there eh buddy?
Its too late to modify his sentence. He should never have been sentenced prior to his testimony. ADA screwed up big time.
