Mississippi Secretary of State Hibbit Hosemann issued the following statement.
Secretary Hosemann’s Statement on Request for Voter Roll Information
“Our
Office has not received any correspondence from the Presidential
Advisory Commission on Election Integrity. A copy of
such correspondence to another Secretary of State has been forwarded to
us. As all of you may remember, I fought in federal court to protect
Mississippi voters’ rights for their privacy and won. (See True the Vote v. Hosemann, 43 F.Supp.3d 693 (S.D.
Miss. 2014))
In the event I were to receive correspondence from the Commission requesting the following,
‘if
publicly available under the laws of the state, the full first and last
names of all registrants, middle names or initials if available,
addresses, dates of birth, political
party (if recorded in your state), last four digits of social security
number if available, voter history (elections voted in) from 2006
onward, active/inactive status, cancelled status, information regarding
any felony convictions, information regarding voter
registration in another state, information regarding military status,
and overseas citizen information,’
My reply would be: They can go jump in the Gulf of Mexico and Mississippi is a great State to launch from.
Mississippi
residents should celebrate Independence Day and our State’s right to
protect the privacy of our citizens by conducting
our own electoral processes.”

Gotta protect the privacy of those Sanderson chicken pluckers! Wouldn't want the dirty little GOP secret to get out.
This is my 1st time seeing this... I sure would love for Delbert to suffer the consequences of this foolish comment. I for one a traditional conservative won't be voting for him ever again. Also I guess we have joined a list of liberal blue states opposing this. Maybe he can get a photo of himself celebrating with Cuomo Jerry Brown or even Pelosi.
WTF??? Does Delbert not understand that vote fraud occurs when people register and vote multiple times in multiple counties and states? And the only way to prevent that is to have a centralized listing?
Yes, we now have voter ID in Mississippi, but no thanks to Delbert. That finally happened only because Republicans took control of the House after 100 years of Democratic rule.
I guess Delbert thinks the Never-Trumpers have some kind of sway in Mississippi. Dead wrong . . .
Maybe Dumbert can go jump into the Gulf of Mexico. I for one want to make sure only legal citizens are voting. And that they are only voting ONCE in each election and in only one state!!!
9:49 your ignorance is showing. I am a former Sanderson employee and I can attest that their screening of their prospective employee is more through than any other in the state. By the way the feathers are plucked these days by machine and not by hand.
Don't know why you think it is ok to talk dusparingly about one of Mississippi's success stories that pumps money into our small rural counties.
9:57 a centralized list is such a good idea. Let's do it with guns, rifles, and pistols. We need to know this.
I live in NE Jackson a few houses down from Ole Delbert... I helped him fundraise early on and I won't help him again or vote for him ever again. I guess his true colors are showing. Screw him.
10:19 - you think if you purchase a gun that the information is kept confidential? You think the government doesn't already have access to this information? hahahahahahaha
So I guess big government is good when it comes to this, but bad for things you don't agree with?
I don't want a cabinet post for 'elections' and this is the first step down that road...
So, a federal panel committed to studying and coming up with a solution to voter fraud makes a REQUEST of some states (not ours) and that request is totally predicated on "if publicly available..." and Delbert's response to an administration with almost a 90% favorability rating among Mississippi Republican voters is to jump in the gulf. I count about 3 degrees of stupidity there (aside from my run-on sentence), which is particularly odd given out brilliant the man believes himself to be.
Wow 4 People still support the President. Kudos to Delbert!! Why would he want to be party to a false narrative? Incidences of Voter Fraud are far and in between, even the heads of the Tea Party crowd. Trump was duly elected our president but he lost the popular vote and the number of people at his inauguration was smaller than Bush's much less either of Obama's. He needs to get over it and do his job destroying the Republican Party.
10:19 - you have a constitutional right to own as many guns as you want. You do not have a constitutional right to commit vote fraud by being registered and voting in multiple locations. Although for some reason Delbert has sided with folks who think you do.
I always thought Delbert had a future in Washington. Not anymore.
What a silly publicity stunt. He hasn't even received a request for Mississippi's voter data.
Hilarious how first commenters above are all about state's rights and decentralization and local control until they're not.
I would bet that they probably do not understand the issue at hand. This makes me realize Delbert is a good Republican with a intelligent head on his shoulders.
are these posters joking? I am a republican voter but I do NOT want to share all this personal info they are asking for: full name, address, DOB and last 4 of SS#. Are you kidding? Just so the president can feel better about himself? He IS president for Petes Sake. Who gives a damn if she had more votes at this point in time? It won't change the outcome. He won. So my state to give out my personal information for this investigation would be a complete violation of my privacy.
Until settling back down in my home state of MS, I moved around a lot with a Fortune 100 company. Spent several years each in Alabama, Tennessee, and Louisiana. It wasn't until the reporting of this effort by Trump admin, that I learned I was supposed to contact each states polling operation to let them know I am moving and should be taken off their rolls. Needless to say, I never did that. I may in fact still be on their rolls and could vote in 4 states if I so choose. NOW, I think it is a worthwile endeavor. Hoseman is grand standing much like Comey, wants his 15 mins.
I notice several of you want Hosemann to violate state law. I would like for you to cite the incidences of voter fraud in the state of Mississippi. Was there 5 or more proven cases? How many votes did they involve?
Once again I read the comments and understand why Mississippi is ranked dead last in so many areas. Keep on buying in to the false narrative of voter fraud while the Putin Puppet kills our country.
Canton..... Hattiesburg.......
@10:32
4 people still support this president... ha... trump is 5-0 with his endorsed candidates. Remember 51% of the counties trump won in this country voted for Obama. He won the former bill Clinton democrats and he will continue to win for a long long time... the mid west rust belt is all he needs again. Get outside of your college campus. Even Michael Bloomberg and Joe Biden have said trump will win relection. You clearly aren't aware that 48% of trump voters also voted for obama. Go back to NPR or CNN.
Was there 5 or more proven cases? How many votes did they involve?
So what is the threshold? Tell us how much corruption you propose the voting public should tolerate and accept.
Way to go, Secretary Hosemann! I have never had so much respect for him as I do now. Finally some good press for Mississippi.
agree with 11:15
Do you realize how many people under 40 move every 2 to 4 years? ...even here in MS? Voter roles don't automatically remove you from your previous poling place simply because you move 10 miles and now vote somewhere else.
Get rid of voter fraud. Thank you Pres Trump.
If the Obama administration had made this request, the same people hammering Hosemann right now would be begging him to run for president.
wow you poor fools
Did anyone ever figure out if Hosemann ever stole a piece of the scatters in Leflore County? What used to be an 1132 acre piece of public hunting land? I haven't thought much of his opinion since he bought his way into duck hunting.
Andrew Creely, Sr. v. C. Delbert Hosemann, Jr. Mississippi Supreme Court No. 2003-CA-02353-SCT. Affirmed 02/10/05.
Most of the voter data requested by the Voter Fraud Commission is already public. If you look in the Mississippi administrative code, you will see the Secretary of State's Office provide a statewide voter roll for $2000 and a free update the following year. They do not provide social security numbers or dates of birth. The request asked for voter information IF it was publicly available under state's law. Hosemann could have just said birth dates and socials are not public and therefore he wouldn't provide those, but would provide the public info once a valid public records request was made. Instead, Hosemann makes an over the top statement to get cheap applause from the Left and Never Trump Republicans. Will be interesting to see if the usually measured and analytical Hosemann will become a bomb thrower in the current political environment.
Calm down people! There's no way that President Trump's "blue ribbon" panel just wants to sell this information to the Russians or, at least, put it in one centralized place where they can hack into it with ease. Relax, the contractor selected to safeguard this information won't have any vulnerabilities or connections with Russia. They've got top people selected to safeguard this information before asking for it. Don't they?
Nothing to see here. There's NO EVIDENCE the Russians attempted to interfere in the last election. There's NO EVIDENCE President Trump benefited from the lack of that attempted non-interference.
Remember, the Manchurian Candidate was a work of pure fiction. There's no proof that President Trump way back when went on a business trip to Russia and canoodled with one or more comely KGB or FSB agents. There's no proof the Russians have sordid blackmail pictures, or audio, or video. He would never step out on Melania or America. Besides the Soviet and Russian intelligence agencies never made use of this form of blackmail in their entire history.
Shame on you Delbert! When the President's "blue ribbon" panel on voter fraud asks you to give them something you're statutorily duty bound to protect, you'd damn well better step and fetch!
Some of us aren't quite ready for the leap from authoritarianism to complete totalitarianism. Some of use actually believe in the original meaning and the spirt of the constitution and know the difference between the varying degrees of federalism and WHY checks and balances are actually a good thing.
That is all. Have a happy Independence Day.
Delbert made a wise decision not to turn over our voting records and social security numbers to a group of people who are the subject of multiple state and federal felony investigations.
More than 40 States are refusing. Funny the Trump worshippers are in a damn tizzy.
"The voter rolls include names, addresses, birthdays, partial Social Security numbers, and in some cases even driver’s license numbers, among other information. But the email system intended to traffic the information lacks minimal encryption protections, according to the report."
So "Modern" and all. 🙄

Ha. Delbert tries to go Trump but it doesn't work very well for him. You can't use the term "go jump in the Gulf" or "throw it in the Gulf" and live in his cotton candy house that he does...emphasis on the cotton aspect. He is the opposite of common folk.
Ok, sheeples...y'all do realize that the Federal government basically has the bulk of this info. Now, as to my voter history...why is that their business, or my political affiliation? They can find out the rest this (felonies, military status, overseas citizenship) with a few keystrokes. This is a state level issue - the job of the SOS office. There is already way too much federal overreach, why give them more? They can't weed out IRS fraud, SS check fraud, SS# fraud...but they can fix voter fraud? Yeah, right. And before it even starts - I am not a snowflake, I am not a liberal, I am not a democrat...I am only registered as a republican because you have to be something. I seriously considering changing it after the debacle of 2014, when the party line folks said I was the same as a terrorist for not supporting Thad...but that's another rant for another day.
I never thought I would have a reason to respect ol' Delbert...but I do on this one. I just hope the Gov and the Chihuahua let him do his job. But, I am willing to bet that the Trumpies force him to play purdy to make themselves look good for the horrible reality show wanna be that is the farce in DC.
"I am only registered as a republican because you have to be something."
Stop lying. Mississippi does not register voters by party.
ID at the polls is a good thing. Now we need tp have ID to register to vote and proof of residence in your district/ward/ etc.
Your county election commissioners are suppoed to purge the voter rolls
I am very proud of Delbert. He is honest, bright, competent and the best educated of Mississippi's officials. I will support him for any office he runs for now and in the future. Thank God we have one good official.
They both have a point. If Trump can show that voter fraud is more widespread than many people believe that should make it easier for states to pass voter ID laws. I am in favor of this. I do not want the Feds running our elections, but I would like to see them gather the data and issue a report. I don't trust all of the states to do their own reporting.
Degburt is protecting our privacy and that is also good.
I would like to see them work this out. Perhaps the Feds could send people to each state to view the data and analyze it. They would return to Washington with analysis and no one's personal information. Was that hard ?
@10:44 pm...we don't have open primaries in MS. So, therefore, you have to be something. I was asked, all those years ago, my party when I registered.
And, however you vote in the primary, you have to vote that same party if there's a runoff. Well, except in 2014.
Voter ID is helping, except too many forms of ID are allowed. It should be limited to: MS DL, MS State Issued ID/Voter ID, MS CCP. There is no reason for anyone not to have the ID - you can't do anything else in this world without one.
His Highness Hosemann hasn't even been asked for this information yet, and he's already seeking publicity. Then, we he gets an actual request, he'll get more.
Those of you who think so highly of Delbert, should think again.
SOS Hosemann, thanks for reminding us you are a Never-Trumper. I am a Never-Hosemann.
Kudos Delbert
Delbert if elected to the Congress would be a natural for the Ways and Means Committee with his knowledge of the tax laws. He is an excellent SOS as he would be in any office because of his fine education and intelligence. His independence from Trump's ridiculous and untruthful, made up lies, demagoguery and fears is a blessing. Thank you Delbert!!
No arm of government at any level should have the authority to demand (or even request) the scope of information included in this matter. Regardless of what you (or I) think about voter fraud, the government should never possess that sort of database.
Aside from that, Hibbert is obviously grand-standing as he does every time he opens his mouth.
This 'Commission' requested info that is publicly available. There are no secrets, personal info, or any other bullshit being included.
The only bullshit is Delbert idiotic reply to a request he 'hears' is coming. I would suggest that Drlbert go jump in the Gulf and quit pretending like he is the God-almoghty, King of Kings, arbitor of all that is good and right.
Once again he has ignored the laws he us supposed to be so smart about. Just like last week when he totally misquoted the law to the alderman that no longer lived in his district - the world's smartest man shot from the hip and quoted "voter" information vs. Office holder info.
But that's alright - Delbert has spoken. And to the three faithful above that believes his mantra about him being the smartest person in the room, he still has you fooled.
In the case at hand, all Delbert has to do is the same thing the 82 Circuit Clerks would do if so requested - cut a CD and dump the data and send it to them. It's a public record.
Some one needed to stand up for our privacy. Thank you Delbert. Don't give in. Ever.
What a stupid attempt at public posturing. Voting rolls are public record. Delbert must not truly grasp how much Mississippians love Trump. This one dumb comment could seriously dampen his future electoral ambitions.
3:13 a.m.; Earlier you were asked to stop lying. But you're still at it. Nobody asks for party affiliation when one registers to vote in Mississippi. Nobody. Say it with me. Nobody. Regardless of our primary system, there is no party affiliation associated with registering to vote.
Stop Lying.
2:31 PM Trump will resign or be impeached long before the next elections in 2019. Delbert made a move to be on the right side of history.
5:55
Your either a college educator or a college student. No one in the real world believes what you posted. Even the Democrats are saying impeachment talk is killing the democrats. Trump ran on same platform as bill clinton... exact platform as Joe biden. Only exception is trump has never opposed same sex marriage.
The current investigation is revealing things I'd rather not know about on both sides of the aisle. There's no way to keep it contained to the beltway or any major corporate media outlet; those days are over. Although it's a nice dream, because Twitler just won't stop, 9:28 is most likely correct since Republicans have control-----UNLESS indictments actually come down and their hands are forced instead of being tied with the fear of their own making.
Side note: Mueller and his army of lawyers aren't playing.
Some people who place pennies on the tracks actually think they can derail the train.
43 other States are now on the side of Delbert on this one. Thank you Delbert for putting us in the mainstream of the Nation again! The other politicians like Feel are always taking us to Redneck Hell.
Looks like you got hooked in the gill with the fake CNN news.
Kris Kobach, vice chair of the Presidential Advisory Commission on Election Integrity, said Wednesday that only 14 states and the District of Columbia have refused the commission's recent request for voter data, disputing reports that dozens of states had rejected the request.
"At present 20 states have agreed to provide the publicly available information requested by the commission and another 16 states are reviewing which information can be released under their state laws," Kobach said in a statement. "In all, 36 states have either agreed or are considering participating with the Commission's work to ensure the integrity of the American electoral system."
I gave up on trying to post HTML, and I'll doubt you'll allow this, buuuuuut:
http://thehill.com/regulation/other/340738-voter-fraud-commission-may-have-violated-law
The list of States denying the turnover of at least part of their data is 44. Any data is 14. Another lie by the Trump team from their endless lies that it is but a few.
Link?
delbert has already given this information to kris kobachs' fraudulent interstate cross check voter suppression campaign...he is posturing for the sake of..or trying to cover his tail, b/c he has already sold the people of MS out.
Thank God for Delbert.
