Rankin County Sheriff Bryan Bailey issued the following press release.
Rankin County Sheriff’s Office K9 Unit has New Addition
The Rankin County Sheriff’s Office has made a new addition to its K9 unit bringing the department up to three certified K9’s.
The newest member of the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office is a 75 pound sable colored male German Shepherd, born on May 11th 2015. His name is “Voodoo”. Voodoo is partnered
up with Deputy Drew Payne.
Voodoo
was carefully selected and imported to the United States from Czech
Republic to begin his initial training. The dog is certified in
narcotics detection, obedience, building/area
searches, article searches, tracking, and handler protection.
Currently, he lives at home with Deputy Payne and his family.
Deputy
Payne and Voodoo underwent a seven week training program at Hub City
Canine Consultants in Hattiesburg, MS. Hub City Canine trained Voodoo in
the basic skills necessary
for a competent K9 for Rankin County. Additional training will take
place on an ongoing basis to maintain a high level of service from the
dog.

THANK YOU to the LAW OFFICERS and our JUDGES in RANKIN COUNTY.
Hinds county could come over and learn how it is done!!!!!!!
Got a question. A dog is considered a deputy. What happens to the dog when it gets loose and attacks a person? Is it punished as a deputy would be? It has happened several times in Rankin county. I do know if a person harms the dog they are charged with attacking a deputy.
11:45. You are correct. He is punished like a deputy...three days off and his Kong toy withheld.
Thanks, I thought that might be the case.
Proud of Sheriff Bailey and all the good men and women in Rankin County's law enforcement family. You are appreciated.
