Rankin County Sheriff Bryan Bailey issued the following statement.
Rankin County Sheriff’s Office Searching for Home Invasion Suspects
On January 26, 2017, at approximately 0200hrs, the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call from Flowood Merit Health Hospital that a 61yoa male victim had arrived at the emergency room with multiple gunshot wounds to the legs. Deputies were dispatched to the emergency room as well as the victim’s residence.
The victim stated that he was at his residence in bed when he heard a noise at the front door, he went to the door and was met by a male wearing a ski mask. The male entered the residence and demanded money from the victim. The victim said he heard the voices of two other males speaking. The victim was then struck in the head with a pistol by the suspect. The victim was forced to open a gun safe where he keeps his weapons. During the robbery the victim was shot multiply times in the lower extremities. It appears that approximately 30 weapons were taken. The victim advised after the suspects left, he made his way outside and was able to climb into his vehicle and drive himself to the hospital.
We want to reassure the citizens of Rankin County that this was not a random act of violence. The victim was known to at least one of the suspects and was targeted because he was a firearms dealer.
The Rankin County Sheriff’s Office has multiple investigators working the case. The U.S. Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force and the FBI Violent Crimes Task Force both are assisting in the investigation. The Sheriff’s Office has developed numerous suspects and we are currently gathering evidence that we believe will lead to the arrest of these individuals.

I wonder if it was the dealer featured in the JJ post recently: http://kingfish1935.blogspot.com/2017/01/milli-yungs-big-day-out.html
May want to start with those patrons or their friends.
In other words, he traded the guns to cover a debt he owed, and then shot himself in a non life threatening part of the body and concocted this story.
What a rude comment, 4:45. A man has been shot and you are making up stuff without checking the facts. This man is a respected person in the community.
Yep I Agree there is more to this story, why wouldn't he call the police himself?
Who opens their door at 2:00 am to a guy wearing a ski mask?
Somebody's got some 'splainin' to do.
PS
This really lets the air out of the argument that you need a gun at home to protect yourself against an armed intruder.
The gun dealer in that video was in Laurel
I don't buy it for a minute. A gun dealer, of all people, is not about to open his front door at night to an unknown visitor making noises.
A follow-up story will reveal this to be bullshit. If not, at least I gave it the old try.
PS: Desperate people do desperate things...even respected members of the community.
The AG's Office should get involved in this one.
BS
Agreed. People that have 30+ guns in their house don't answer the door at 2:00am not locked and loaded and without thinking this through.
Signed,
Guy who has 30+ guns at his house and friends with gun dealers with way more than that.
Proper planning would have him leaving one gun way out in the front yard so it would appear, upon investigation, that the perps dropped one in their haste to escape.
Odd that they left all the ammo in the safe. Must be headed on down to
Academy.
it doesn't say he answered the door, nor does it say he opened the door. it says her was MET at the door by the masked robber. I read it as the noise he heard was the door being broken down...
Agreed. This story is fishy. No one with 30+ guns in their house "goes to the door" at 2:00 a.m. without carrying one of them along.
It would seem like a gun dealer would have a gun on his self before answering the door to an unknown person at 2am. He could have, at least, asked who is it?
This is a factionalized account of what really happened. The ski mask wearer would be "deceased" as The JPD spokesperson calls those brought to room temperature in the Bold New City if he had been anywhere near a home with an arsenal inside. Total BS.
Its not only 'factionalized', it's fictionalized.
Where's the follow up to this mythical story?
