The Madison and Ridgeland Police Departments issued the following statements:
(Ridgeland)Tuesday, January 17, 2017, Ridgeland Police Detectives received information related to the recent business burglaries in the City of Ridgeland. Additionally this information which was received indicated similar patterns of operation with business burglaries in other surrounding jurisdictions. Investigators were able to compile physical evidence which linked the Ridgeland burglaries with at least three other jurisdictions in Madison County (City of Madison, City of Canton and Madison County Sheriffs Department). This information provided to investigators included the name of the subject who had been recorded on video surveillance. Investigators began surveillance on this individual to verify the provided information and establish probable cause for warrants to be issued.
Wednesday, January 18, 2017, Ridgeland PD investigators along with assistance from the Madison Police Department, Canton Police Department and the US Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force executed a search warrant at a residence on Barksdale Street in Jackson, MS. During the search warrant, investigators located and seized US Currency along with other physical evidence to link the suspect to these crimes. The identified suspect was located at the residence and escorted back to Ridgeland Police Department where an extensive interview was conducted. This suspect has provided information which led to criminal charges being filed against him for sixteen (16) counts of Business Burglary and two (2) counts of Felony Malicious Mischief. The charged counts of burglary date back to incidents which occurred on Saturday, January 7, 2017.
Additional jurisdictions around Ridgeland will also be interviewing this subject and additional charges are expected from these jurisdictions. The Ridgeland Police Department would like to acknowledge and thank the following agencies for their participation in this apprehension: Madison Police Department, Madison County Sheriffs Department, Canton Police Department, Warren County Sheriffs Department, Vicksburg Police Department, US Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force, and the Hinds County Sheriffs Department.
(Madison) On January 20, 2017 the Madison Police Department obtained arrest warrants for Darrah Wiliams, age 49, of Jackson, MS charging him with three counts of business burglary. Williams is currently being held at the Madison County Detention Center for similar charges issued in Ridgeland, MS.
During the subsequent investigation by Madison investigators of business burglaries that occurred during the early morning hours of January 14th in Madison, Williams confessed the crimes. The burglaries occurred at the Sherwin Williams Store on Highway 51 and the JS Iupe’s Store and Private Collection Shop on Village Boulevard.
Williams is currently being held without bond. Other agencies that have assisted in the investigation include the Ridgeland Police Department, The Madison County Sheriff’s Office, the Canton Police Department, the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office, the Richland Police Department, the Florence Police Department, the Magee Police Department, the Collins Police Department, the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation and the Mississippi Department of Correction.
