The future is now.

The future grocery store may not have cashiers or cash registers.  Amazon is rolling out its futuristic grocery stores in 2017.  See the video for yourself.

Americans will voluntarilly use services that do away with jobs in their own communities. Amazing. I would not use it.

Also doomed to unemployment:

- Bank tellers
- Fast wood workers

Raise the minimum wage and watch all of these jobs disappear even faster.

No lines, no checkouts, no registers, no privacy and soon no freedom.

Sorry Amazon, NO.

We are already seeing the future of household goods shopping. Have any of you used Kroger click list or the Sam's equivalent? I, for one, support this type of technology innovation.

Then bend over because Big Brother has a very special gift just for you!

Typical dumb comments from those who will be left behind. If you think whining about jobs will stop technology, you have another think coming.

People have to design and implement and test and deploy the Amazon solution. But those jobs require education and good sense, both in short supply in MS. You can either with with technology, or learn a skilled trade. But jobs that require you to stand around and pull a lever all day? Gone.

You guys can open a buggy whip manufacturing plant. Good luck with that.

And then there are the millions of people like me who live in areas so remote that stores such as these may as well be the stuff of science fiction. I don't own a cell phone because there is a not a single carrier who offers service here. And I commenting on my dial-up ISP...either that or $100 bucks a month for unreliable satellite ISP.

LOL @ anyone who thinks they have any privacy now.

This technology is here already. Those of you with smartphones are already leaving a footprint. Cashless society is coming soon courtesy of your elected leaders both Republican and Democrat.

Relax and enjoy it.

Typical condescension from Piss Panther.
It may be all well and good for you to embrace the new technology, but, there are millions and millions of people that have little to no education, and no desire to gain any. Those people used to be able to get jobs flipping burgers at McDonald's. When those jobs disappear, what do you plan to do with them? Soylent Green was just a sci-fi movie.
Buggy whip this, Pitt.

4:20pm, so what's your point? Are you looking for a new Rural Electrification Program, except for the internet? Doesn't that make you a socialist? Why should I pay for your poor choice to live in the middle of nowhere?

Since don't have a cell phone, when you make it to the big city on your yearly trip you had better not try to enter an Amazon store. You'll be assumed to be a shoplifter.

Here's the reality:

We're going to have to think of a new system for distributing basic income. We just are.

The entire basis of capitalism as distribution system is the assumption that the vast majority of people will be able to (at minimum) sell unskilled labor in exchange for a subsistence wage. That will not be true in 50 years. Computers and robots are going to take jobs away from humans at an increasing rate.

And this won't be like past revolutions --where technology destroyed one job but created others-- because robots/computers will be able to adapt quickly to do pretty much anything that doesn't require unusual knowledge or creativity. And then, to do things that DO require these abilities.

So we can either begin thinking of some workable system to distribute basic income to everyone, or we can wait until the former truckers, waiters, and construction workers show up with pitchforks to take it.

But blaming the technology is like blaming Ford for the plight of buggy whip makers.

Millions of existing jobs will be gone in a few years from technology.

but wait-the president elect said he'd bring back manufacturing to the usa..jobs are going to be handed out like there's no tomorrow

Anonymous said...

The only way to stave this off is to give 'human rights/labor rights' to computers & robots.

Wal Mart is way ahead of the game. They've not had checkers for years.

Y'all reading too much fake news.

I already see this happen all of the time. People going into a store, putting something in their pocket, then walking out is not new.

Anonymous said...

If we were only able to see it....

Problem is we are broke...printing money...which we sell to us...which we can't repay.

This Ponzi scheme is almost at its end.

Now....what does it look like when the wheels fall off?

Dieting won't be a fad anymore.....

We all need to understand that with today's technology and the future advances that we must invest in education, I don't care how we do it, public charter, private. We are the dumbest of dumb, pretty soon states with a little more education than us will be stealing our jobs. Think West Virginia or So. Carolina 2 pretry dumb srates too.

5:22pm, there won't be any pitchforks. We already have models in this world of societies with extreme wealth disparities. Think India, or Brazil. In the best case, the poor beg on the streets and die in the Ganges. In the worst case, the rich build walls and hire security guards, but even in Brazil it's just unorganized crime. There no coordinated efforts to throw out the rich.

No French Revolution is happening. We've gotten too soft.

I wonder how that wonderful technology will deal with the inevitable hoards of shoplifters ?

The truth is that we need to institute a global population reduction, there are just too many people in the world. Having babies shouldn't be a god given right anymore, you should have to apply for a license and pay to bring another mouth into existence. Poverty breeds worse poverty, the poor breed faster than the better off due to survival instinct. If we reduced the global populous by 50 percent in 20-30 years years think about the better quality of life we all would have. I know this sounds horrible but it is the only real solution to save our species. We will eventually overpopulate the world, poison everything, and fight over the remaining limited resources until we are all dead.

Anonymous said...

...and fight over the remaining limited resources until we are all dead.

Survival of the fittest. The natural cycle completes.

@8:26 The world population reached one billion somewhere around 1900. Now, there are 7 billion. Completely unsustainable. Pay folks on welfare and other that qualify a $50,000.00 lump sum to get sterilized. Better of in the long run. Human population explosion has pretty much been the root of all issues- economic, environmental, social, political - of the past 100 years.

The domination of the ignorant has always been inevitable. The problem for our future generations is that the term "ignorant" will cover a larger and larger segment of society in years to come. Most of us will be "ignorant" in most respects that really count when compared to a computerized automaton designed by other computers to do what even so-called intelligent people once did. This past election reflects the anxiety common people already feel when they lose their jobs in a place they one thought was "safe". Corporate America moves according to it's bottom line, not saving jobs, so we know it's going to get worse. The only question is how will people react, and what will be the scope and duration of the battle. After that, there'll be a "new world order" . Sound crazy? Look around.

Sooo what's in place to stop someone for going over the limit in their bank account... No cashier to say after you swipe oh I'm sorry your card was declined... And I guess since you can't swipe no EBT... OOOOHHH Kenny and the NAACP won't allow this...

Who is the Hottest Reporter in Jackson?

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
