The Madison Police Department issued the following statement:
Armed Robbery of Subway Restaurant
On Saturday, December 17, 2016 at approximately 9:36 PM, the Madison Police Department received a report of an armed robbery of the Subway Restaurant located at 1029 Highway 51 in Madison. Officers were immediately dispatched to the business and surrounding area.
The two store employees reported that an African American male of unknown age, wearing a dark colored hooded sweatshirt, gray pants, with a scarf over his face entered the restaurant and produced a small semi-automatic handgun. The suspect demanded money from the cash register and a cash box near the register. An employee complied after which the suspect instructed the two employees to walk to the rear of the restaurant. As the employees did so the suspect fled out the front door of the restaurant with the money. No vehicle was observed.
Officers searched the surrounding areas. The suspect was not located. There were no other persons in the restaurant at the time of the robbery. The two employees were not injured. Investigators processed the crime scene and were able to obtain surveillance video from inside the restaurant. A photo of the suspect is included with this media release.
Anyone with information about this robbery is asked to contact the Madison Police Department Criminal Investigations Division at (601) 856-6111 or Central Mississippi Crime Stoppers at (601) 355-TIPS(8477). Anyone with information that could lead to an arrest in this case may be eligible for a reward up to $2,500.

MADISON IS LOST get the hell out now!!!!
What a dumbass. Who robs a subway and doesn't realize that most of their transactions are in the card form.
Perception of crime!
What a dumbass. Who robs a subway and doesn't realize that most of their transactions are in the card form.
The kind of person raised by a woman alone, who's been taught from birth that there are no consequences for violating the law, and that a man has no obligations besides breeding and shooting.
Or was that a rhetorical question?
11:40 SAID IT ALL!! Glad you said it because it's the damn truth!
Nope. Wasn't me.
Glad they added that photograph. That is really helpful to discovering the criminals identity... SMH
Sounds like a copy cat or the same guy who's robbed the Subway on Old Canton twice.
Inside job. I go to this shopping center all the time. You have two busy restaurants basically sandwiching this Subway that are open at that time. Why target the Subway when you could pick off one or two people going to their car? This is one of the few Subways that doesn't seem to have Indian descent employees/family members there at night. Cue the outrage in 3...2...1... Call'em like I see'em.
By the time D.A. Guest is done with him he'll realize he should have hit the Olive Garden for the occasional "never ending pasta" instead of 40 years worth of the "never ending foot long".
Yes that is a great photo. Will help solve this crime. NOT. But hey... at least the mayor and alderman are forcing businesses to have security cameras. Yep.....that will really make a difference. Only thing this proves is that the employees didn't rob the store themselves. Oh wait - this isn't Burger King.
Madison is so dangerous!!
2:11 just used the word "sandwiching" in a story about a sandwich restaurant getting robbed....brilliance!
Here come the Jackson gloaters. One robbery in Madison to them equates to three men murdered in cold blood on Terry Road Saturday night, or the weekly shootings/robberies/assaults in Jacktown.
How many of you live in West Jackson again? Or by Lake Hico? Or off Woody Drive near McDowell?
How many of you shop at Westland Plaza? Or Mart 51? Or Metrocenter?
How many of you picnic at Battlefield Park? Or Smith Park? Or Poindexter Park?
How many of you dine at Famo's? Or the Purple Diamond? Or Big John's?
Pretty safe to say that none of you does these things very often, and you only leave NE Jackson or Fondren or Belhaven or whatever white part of town you sanctimoniously inhabit to go to Madison or Ridgeland or Flowood. Or to leave town altogether.
Enjoy your fantasy that the suburbs are "just as bad" or the problems there are "just as real" as the plague of Jackson.
Hope the robber didn't steal my meat ball sub............
this surely didn't happen in Madison? I thought the columns were there to keep this out..
Use of the word 'sandwiching' was not nearly as clever as this...
"...occasional "never ending pasta" instead of 40 years worth of the "never ending foot long"."
Think about it!..............
3:32 You're triggered about people poking fun of whatever mayo enclave you live in because a robbery occurred there. People are so mean here, but just maybe those folks you feel are slighting your community are pointing out that crime occurs everywhere? Hope you get burped and changed soon; that crankiness is unbecoming.
3:32 I grew up in South Jackson, delivered the newspaper in the Mart 51 area. As far as I am concerned I don't care if I ever go back into Jackson. We can now be born, live, die and be buried in our Madison and Rankin County communities without ever going to Jackson. Like what was said years ago by a local developer "Will the last one to leave please turn out the lights". Unlike in Hinds County, once the criminal is caught they will be convicted and punished accordingly.
Again inside job. Girl behind the counter dates a meth head. Inside job just like the burger king.(twice)
"Mayo enclave". Good one, whitey.
Tonight I was driving north on 220 when a couple of incredibly reckless drivers came upon me at Watkins, engaged in some sort of road rage car chase BS. One shot past me and the other came right up on my bumper, so as soon as I could I merged over and gave the driver, a dreadlocked young black man, the finger as he whipped past.
The guy hit his brakes and from about two car lengths in front of me, rolled down the window (it was like 30 degrees out) and brandished an automatic handgun.
I honestly expected this mother-effer to take a shot at me. I hit the brakes and was almost rear-ended by traffic.
I backed off but kept him in view. He peeled off onto I-55 South toward Jackson. The truck he was chasing went toward Madison (as did I) and slowed to a normal driving speed once the miscreant fled into his sanctuary city. I can only imagine that the driver had been similarly threatened.
Maybe you want to live in thug central with people like that on your streets and in your neighborhoods, but I'll take what you pejoratively refer to as a "mayo enclave" ANY F---ING DAY over Jacktown and hoodlum rule.
Keep talking about Parlor Market and Whole Foods, asshole. I think you'll find there is plenty of mayo in those places.
11:09 may be onto something. I noticed in the article that she 'ushered' the other two employees into the back area. So, in furtherance of the inside-job theory, she shooed the two witnesses out of the room. Clever, huh?
3:55 AM
Stay off 220.....it's a bizarre mix of bad driving. Rude slow driving left lane blobs combined with what you experienced..race car driving hot heads. The problems are exaggerated by the fact that the racers cars are not usually well maintained. As a result it's extremely reckless driving with bad equipment. Those safety barriers MDOT erected in the median with steel wires I refer to as "hooptie shredders" have sliced more metal than the Can Man.
6:00 AM
Oh, I'm well aware, and I would not drive it if I didn't have to for work. It's my daily commute and I have to deal with all you mention, AND the fact that on any given day there are no fewer than three abandoned cars on the side of the road, and at least once a week there's a traffic snarl because somebody went off the road and into those wires.
I mean really, who the hell abandons their car because a tire is flat (I see this ALL the time)? What you have are people with cars that are barely roadworthy and who don't even maintain their tires or carry a spare, so they leave it on the roadside to have JPD tow it because they don't want to pay to have it done.
But I can say for certain that last night was the first time I've had someone flash a gun at me. It scared the living sh*t out of me, honestly. Maybe some of these Keep Fondren Funky types are used to it and don't mind having a gun pointed their way, but it's not something I want to have happen again.
I'll happily stay in my "mayo enclave" to avoid that. And as someone said above, 99.9% of the "Jackson is so much cooler than the suburbs" crew are spending 99.9% of their time in the few mayo-friendly parts of Aleppo, MS (including a certain JFP editor).
As I said earlier but was censored. The perps leave on foot. They live close by. Madison, it's only a short time before you are taken over by thugs. The nice AA's that do make a prosperous living have kids and grandkids and those are the ones you are encountering. So, the social experiment did work by Obama.
"...and brandished an automatic handgun."
Oh really?
6:00 and 3:35: Such strong opinions about a condiment. Next time I'll go with "Magical Miracle Whip Gardens" so as to not harm your delicate sensibilities. It's interesting that people here will bleat "JFP" at any post that differs from their opinion/worldview. An alt-weekly producing that much of a Pavlovian hivemind must be doing something right.
