Longwitz announces re-election bid.

State Senator Will Longwitz issued the following press release and video:

MADISON – Sen. Will Longwitz (R-Madison) announced today that he will seek re-election to State Senate District 25, which includes Madison, Ridgeland and Northeast Jackson. He released the following statement:

“I want to thank the voters of Madison, Ridgeland and Northeast Jackson for allowing me the honor of serving as their State Senator. Working together, we have held the line on spending and we have pushed back against a federal government that thinks they know better than we do.

“We have made our top priorities protecting small business, creating jobs by helping Nissan expand and protecting children by tracking and punishing those who would commit crimes against them.

“I’m proud of the work we’ve done, but there is still work left to do. That’s why I’m asking for your support again. If you’ll trust me to continue to represent you, I’ll keep fighting to improve our schools, strengthen our state’s economy and defend our way of life.”

Longwitz has earned a reputation as a legislator who can get laws passed for his constituency. His bills have helped create jobs, fight public corruption, improve public safety and protect victims of domestic violence. He has earned an “A” rating from the National Rifle Association, and has worked to make adoption easier. An attorney with his own law practice in Ridgeland, he has been recognized as an effective legislator.

Longwitz was first elected to the Mississippi State Senate in 2011, the year Republicans took control of the Senate, House and Governorship of Mississippi for the first time since Reconstruction. He is a member of the Finance, Judiciary A, Insurance, Business and Financial Institutions, Ethics and County Affairs committees, and is Vice Chairman of the Senate Constitution Committee.

A product of Mississippi public schools, Longwitz is a strong advocate for good public education. He has been recognized as a Business and Jobs Champion by the Business and Industry Political Education Committee (BIPEC), and was named Senate Legislator of the Year by the Mississippi Association of Realtors for his advocacy of property rights issues.

He a member of the Madison Ridgeland Rotary Club, the Madison County Bar Association, the Mississippi Bicentennial Commission and he sits on the Tulane University Public Advisory Board. He is an Eagle Scout. Longwitz and his wife Leigh Ann live in Madison with their two daughters.

Don't forget Longwitz ran last time as a self-proclaimed member of the Tea Party.

Then proceeded to flip-flop on his conservatism and went running as fast as he could to kiss Big Baconator Reeves' hiny.

Don't forget about the McDaniel snake oil that covered BB

Just think, Madison County could have Will Longwitz and Joel Bomgaars -- guys who wake up every day, look in the mirror, and see the future President of the United States -- in a 4-year Battle of the Egos cage match. No civic club, Weight Watchers flock, or Tupperware party would be safe from their unending pursuit of speaking opportunities. And woe be unto ye who gets between either of them and a camera. Please, Madison County voters, show us how much better you are than the rest of the metro.

Of course, given that Longwitz is an habitual liar, who knows if his announcement is true. But, I presume it is since holding office is his exclusive means of making a living. Well, if you count shaking people down as ancillary to holding office.

"Holding office is his exclusive means of making a living..." What?? Will is a very accomplised attorney. He's only held office for one term so I guess he just lived on the streets with his wife and two kids before beig elected?

In spite of what a bozo this guy has been in his one term, there is a Longwitz winning strategy. He should be able to solidify Hinds Cty GOP voters behind him. If he can split Madison Cty GOP voters, the combination of half of the Madison GOP votes and all of the Hinds GOP votes could make him a primary winner against Billingsly.

How to split Madison and solidify Hinds? BB was an open supporter of the most embarrassing campaign since Cliff Finch: the Chris McDaniel for US Senate race. Bad enough, but BB stuck with Chris even after the campaign by being involved in the post-election court case which dragged on forever. He allowed his name to be on a document that sought to not count all of the Hinds County votes in that run-off. This, along with his general support of McD, will end BB's chance in Hinds. The McD support should also be enough to split the Madison vote.

Longwitz has passed up on numerous opportunities to speak or appear before groups, and that will come back to hurt him. But he has passed some decent legislation, including a bill that revamped Domestic violence laws.

It would be really nice to have a third Madison Cty candidate in the race. Perhaps someone with strong Hinds connections.

Longwitz hasn't done jack shit for Jackson or HindsCo voters. The Hinds/Jackson portion of the district is not a monolithic lock step voting block.

As predicted, he's standing in the seniority line. Just think, one day, he could be Senate Minority Leader in the US Senate.

Longwitz only won 39% of the vote in the 2011 runoff versus the highly flawed Chuckie Barbour. Ain't nothing to "solidify" in Hinds.

Re- McDaniel campaign references.

First, If that is all Longwitz supporters have to say, then isn't that a clear example of his inadequacy?

Second- At least Billingsley stood for something- he stood for who he believed in and, after it concluded, stood on principle again and supported Thad Cochran the GOP nominee when the "TEA Partiers" stood with the Democrat.

Where was Longwitz on this race? no where. playing it smart like a career politician.

I ask him about he- he wouldn't respond. Which isn't out of the norm being as he hasn't responded to anything regarding issues, assistance request, etc. I'm not sure if it's because he doesn't care or because he is too busy with his law firm.

12:33. Right on target. If all Longwitz has to say is critize BB for supporting McDaniel (and I have overheard him do this on three different occasions since Billingsby's announcement) then he isn't going far. Billingsby has a reputation of getting involved behind what he believes. I disagreed with his support of McDaniel, but I can respect him for it.

More importantly, I respect him for his standing behind his principles and strongly supporting Cochran in November - unlike some of the idiots in the McD camp.

I never saw Longwitz on either side. Playing it safe isn't the way to show conviction.

How strongly did he support Cochran? I never saw any youtube links posted on here of his pro-Cochran videos. Maybe he was using a different avenue to get the word out.

1:16; How does one 'stand behind' his principles? What does that even mean? Please give an example of doing it and one of not doing it.

Wasn't Bill Billingsley a big supporter of Will Longwitz four years ago? Didn't Bill even host a fundraiser for Will in his impressive Madison home? What's different now?

Anonymous said...

I haven't had the chance to ask Bill what is different now but as a voter and also a former supporter of will's in 2011 I assume one thing it could be that it's impossible to get Will on the phone. If he won't even take the time to help or hear views of his constituents that supported him I fear what he offers those that didn't support him.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
