Update on Belhaven shooting.

A woman was shot on Euclid (Belhaven) last night.  WAPT reported:

JACKSON, Miss. —A manhunt was underway Wednesday night after gunmen shot a woman in the front yard of her home.

Authorities said the shooting happened about 7 p.m. along Euclid Avenue in Belhaven.

The woman's boyfriend said she was taking out the trash when he heard gunshots. He ran outside and found her lying on the ground.

"(I) grabbed my 9-millimeter off the counter and came back out and saw her lying, I saw her. First I saw her car, then I heard her say, 'Connor, Connor,' then I saw her lying in the driveway," R. Connor McAllister said.

The boyfriend said the woman's purse was stolen along with her telephone and the keys to her Mercedes.

The victim was rushed to a hospital and was in surgery Wednesday night.

The victim's condition was not available.

JJ obtained more information about the attempted murder.  The woman is nearly 70 years-old. She was visiting her boyfriend in Belhaven.  She parks in the driveway in her Mercedes and saw the garbage cans were still in the driveway.  She went to pick them up and carried her purse as she did so.  The perps drove by and apparently saw someone they considered to be an easy mark.  They tried to take her purse and she resisted.  When she resisted, she was shot in the wrist and stomach.  They were in a maroon Impala.  She has been through two surgeries.  She is not yet out of the woods but she is in stable condition.  Police continue to search for the suspects.

Is this a Hate crime?

Why did the 2-3 male thugs have to shoot a 70 year old woman to steal her purse? Can't you just steal without shooting an old woman?

Sad...Sad...Sad Hoping she pulls thru. Now the real story is when all the liberals that will say Belhaven is Safe. Get your heads out of your butts people. Wonder Waht Margaret Barrett-Simon would say. I heard her say in her run for Mayor that Jackson DID NOT have a crime problem. Very sad

@12:21, because they could. Thats why. In Jxn this is all the reason they need.

Did Virgi disseminate this information to the citizens in Belhaven or did she withhold to prevent bad publicity?

Robert Schuler Smith is the problem - he is responsible for putting career criminals back on the street

Anonymous said...

1:01 - He didn't get out in time, maybe.

Anonymous said...

Where is Clarion Ledger? Clarion Ledger is till writing front page stories on a real "hate" crime that happened over two years ago. No mention of this crime for some reason?

Poor lady. Even if she recovers which I very much hope she does, this tragic event in her life will never go away.

I encourage all my women friends in Jackson to never be out after dark alone. It is just not safe anymore anywhere. The thugs just ride around looking for a victim just like they were in Belhaven last night.

Also, it is well known and encouraged that you should never ever resist but rather give the thug/thugs whatever they want you have-purse, keys, car whatever, and hope and pray they don't physically harm you. Poor lady. She never had a chance.

Anonymous said...

About 4 cars of folks could ride around Jackson for one day and spot the car.It probably still had the women's blood on it.

Anonymous said...

Even worse: when you work downtown and park in a garage, don't get off until dark, and no security is available to even walk you to your car. Oh yeah, and your boss won't let you shorten your lunch so you can leave before dark.

Anonymous said...

How long are we going keep electing Robert Schuler Smith and allowing him to keep putting these criminals back on the streets?

Anonymous said...

There is something really bad wrong with people who shoot someone grandmother for a few dollars.

Don't move out of Jackson, move out of Hinds County! After 5 years Rankin, Madison, and Copiah County can build along it border with Hinds a 8 foot electrified fence. Problem solved. Oh, BTW, they can make Robert Schuler Smith the warden.

I just read a write-up in the JFP about a multi-year federal hate crime investigation that put away 10 white people in regard to the murder of one black man in 2011. His sister said they had been waiting four years for justice and finally got it.

Now, in this case will we see a similar multi-year federal hate crime investigation (should the perps turn out to be black) with the JFP acting as cheerleader?

Hello?

2:59. Are you aware of issues in downtown parking garages? If so, please be specific. My staff and i use them daily. My staff have not complained about security concerns. I have not sensed any. Where are you parking? I have been using downtown garages for over 25 years.

Others, did i read of a shooting in Rankin and in Madison County in the past week? People, if you think knucleheads know where the city limits of Jackson are, you are not paying attention. Spout off if you wish, just like those 10 who plead guilty to hate crime, for coming from Rankin to Jackson (these morons called it Jafrica) to attack blacks. If you don't understand we're all in the same community, you are just a moron. and you can't fix stupid.

@ 8:26 - When a shooting occurs in Madison and Rankin counties, it is anomaly. It's the norm in Jackson.

Check out the WLBT article. It's littered with Facebook comments of similar robberies in Belhaven. There is a huge trend of vehicles being broken into looking for guns right now in Jackson as well. So if you are armed, make sure you are concealing on your person.

If you really think your are safe in Jackson, you are either stupid, extremely stubborn, or delusional - maybe all of the above.

Anonymous said...

There needs to be a change. Instead of sharing and alerting the neighborhood Virgi Lindsay sits on too much information. This has to end now.

Anonymous said...

7:52. by the last two months, it now appears that carjackings are the norm in Madison and Rankin counties.

9:58, what is a "false equivalency"?
Other than the term du jour of white liberals posing as journalists, can you define it, Miss Ladd - er, I mean, 9:58?

Kingfish said...

That horrific murder of James Anderson deserved every bit of coverage it got. Period.

It shows the DA can actually do his job when properly motivated.

I covered that case. I sat in the courtroom and can tell you, Dedmond wasn't sorry one damn bit. I just wish we could have executed him. Crucifixion would have been nice.

Anonymous said...

I'm confused...why can two black men try to kill an old granny over her purse and car and no media attention is anywhere to be had...then a black criminal is shot "hands in the air" after trying to kill a policeman and the world goes crazy

Kingfish said...

No media attention? The tv stations and newspaper covered this crime in Belhaven.

If anything, some of the blacks reading the coverage are probably asking why the media doesn't cover the same crimes that take place in their neighborhoods.

Oh, and one little thought for the people who say (almost with relish) that crimes take place in Madison and Rankin. In case you haven't noticed, most of the perps are from Jackson.

Anonymous said...

@ 9:41 And out of bond or no billed from Hinds County.

Anonymous said...

"most of the perps are from Jackson"

And your point? Even if that were true (which is only the case sometimes), it does not matter in light of the fact that it still happens there. Is that supposed to make a victim feel better? By the way, if history is any indication, it is pretty likely that the guy who shot this lady did not actually come from Belhaven either.

Kingfish said...

Do you feel better after throwing your temper tantrum?

Anonymous said...

I'm still waiting on your point...

Kingfish said...

Point is while you and your friends jump up and down for joy that crime is moving out to the burbs, you ignore the fact that the more violent crimes seem to originate with Jackson perps. The criminal justice systems in Rankin and Madison are having to do our jobs for us because the system in Hinds is broken. Period. The police in Jackson and Hinds County more often than not are doing their jobs- only to get backstabbed by the courts and prosecutors.

Of course, you probably have not said a word about this guy being free to rampage in Rankin when he should have never been on the street.

Anonymous said...

You're right, I jump up and down for joy whenever I hear about a crime in Rankin or Madison. How insightful of you. In any event, that statement is generally used to demonize our community and to paint Jackson with one broad brush-stroke, which is inaccurate to say the least. Your concern about the system in Hinds County is valid, and excuse me for being overly-defensive, but that is a result from constantly hearing vitriol being spewed from the outside. A good deal of crimes committed in Brandon or Madison are by people not from there, the same is true for Belhaven/Fondren. And, you're right about the guy that was released to commit another robbery in Rankin. I had nothing to do with that decision, so I don't know what that has to do with me. No one is immune from criminals, no matter where you live. Demonizing Jackson as a whole (which some people on here do, albeit not you) is not the way to get around that.

Kingfish said...

I didn't say all crimes or crimes. I said the more violent crimes. There is a difference.

Anonymous said...

It is to the point in Jackson now, when you detect 2 or more African American males walking or driving near you - you need to think about your personal safety.

To act any other way is to act contrary to human nature.

I am certain before integration when 2 or more whites walked near African Americans they felt the exact same way.

Soon folks are going to shoot first and ask questions later.

Anonymous said...

Belhaven and Fondren are not their own cities and that is the big difference in your argument. It doesn't matter how artsy fartsy they are with their old houses that need constant attention, they are still in the city of Jackson with all the problems that come with it such as:

JPD
Court system
Crime
High property taxes
High property insurance due to crime
Outdated and broken infrastructure
Poorly maintained roads
Poor public services
Laughable school district

The victim was not just some "poor old lady". She is the former Carolyn Temple, married for years to the orthopedic surgeon Dr. Van Temple. She was very active, and it makes complete sense that she fought the assailants for her purse; she is feisty. Although 69, she looks a decade younger. She is financially independent. Makes you wonder if she was not being followed, which to me would be more frightening than if this were just a random act.

Hinds County needs and deservers a competent, inteligent prosecutor as the next District Attorney. He/ She should have a seasoned history of successful outcomes in trials of criminal cases. This person must have the desire and courage to withstand persons of legal/politically currupt agenda. Such persons do exist. I know of at least one. I should also mentin that he/she is is wise with common sence.

Having practiced in this states legal arena for my entire adult life, my opinion is well founded. However, like arses it is only my own, although I am aware of many others who are of similar thought.

Anonymous said...

1:20, so what? By virtue of you being in the State of Mississippi, you are in a jurisdiction that ranks near the bottom on just about everything you listed (except for the high property taxes). Is that a reason to throw every county in the same category? I think not. Same applies to those neighborhoods. The metro area as a whole has a crime problem. You can either attack it (cooperatively) at it's source (one example is actually investing in education, doing more to attract jobs, etc.), or you can spew shit about watching out for black people like 1:10 did or ridiculously suggest building a wall.

@2:05 - "feisty" is a bit of an understatement. She's a gal who would walk through the gates of hell and spit in the Devil's eye, drink all his beer and then complain about the heat.

I'm sure these thugs thought they had an easy mark for rich old white lady and now they're likely going to face an attempted murder charge. Assuming the inept JPD feels like putting forth an effort to catch them.

Roach Patrol said...

That a very limited number of jackings and shoot 'em ups is (correct usage) occurring in outlying counties is not the point being repetitively made.

The point is that the perps are from the hood and we (even those of you in denial) know where the hood is. Roaches will always run through an unprotected kitchen; however, unless killed, they will return to their safe-place after they do what they do.

Will we always have Jackson Jackasses toting flags of denial and pretending out loud that they are safe? Yes.

The black power structure in Hinds county likes the current situation.

So long as Robert Schuler Smith releases the worst criminals (at least the few who are arrested mind you), the most active violent thugs (of the arrested ones),

White people will get out of the black power structures area and blacks will be able to have more political power without being under the watchful eyes of white people.

They hate being reminded of their ineptness by casual observation.

Thanks 11:11 for the timely reminder. I did just that. I walked out of my house and was greeted by a thousand marathoners form all over the world, running through my neighborhood. Horrors of horrors! Some of them were black!!

Trying to escape, I went to Highland Viiage, but it was so crowded, I left to eat lunch at Newks. Imagine my chagrin at having to wait ten minutes to find a seat!

Upon leaving, my curiosity overwhelmed me, so I started checking car tags to see where all of these stupid people were from. I could not believe ny EYES! Almost all from Hunds County!! WHAT FOOLS I thought! Did they not read the missive from 11:11?

I then went down the frontage road, only to be amazed that some out of state fools have partnered with Jacksonians in some huge, incredible development called the District of something or the other. Idiots I marvelled. Simply IDIOTS!

Have they not heard the sage advice either. Thank you 11:11. You are a true pioneer beyond the scope of comprehension!!

Well, I was in NE Jackson off Old Canton Road just last week. I don't believe for a minute that homes in this area are now worth what they were even a year ago. Many many houses are for sale, and many others are just boarded up and empty. I assume they can't even be sold they are in such bad shape. Old cars left in driveways and sitting in the front yards. Maybe some have somewhat kept some of their value, but not many. I'm not saying this because it brings me any kind of pleasure. It sure doesn't. It really. makes me sad, but it's true. The area has gone down so much that it is just pathetic.

Anonymous said...

8:43, your conjecture and guesses < facts. Sorry to disappoint, but there at positive things that happen within the city limits.

A New Twist On It said...

Jackson is safe. A safe place to commit property crimes. The main reason perps continue to commit crimes in a venue is because they feel an aura of safety doing it. They know they can do it and get away with it. That warm feeling of safety is what it's all about. Jackson is safe.

An old man once told me about seeing a 100,000 gallon tank of pure, wonderful drinking water. It was much needed drinking water. It was hard to come by.

Until a man pooped in it, less than one quart of feces.

Ruined all 100,000 gallons with less than one quart of doo doo.

Why do these crime articles always become an outlet for what part of Hinds County is more dangerous or safer than the other...So juvenile...The real subject should be how to find the criminals and punish them...

"I then went down the frontage road, only to be amazed that some out of state fools have partnered with Jacksonians in some huge, incredible development called the District of something or the other. Idiots I marvelled. Simply IDIOTS!" January 10, 2015 at 2:31 PM

I couldn't agree more! Who but fools and idiots would build that ugly modern pile of garbage? It looks like a 1960s housing block in Communist Yugoslavia. Or maybe it looks like Pripyat. And while the "District of Eastover" renderings are full of (drawings of) hip young things, the reality will as fully-peopled as present day Pripyat (deserted...). Maybe the packs dogs, abandoned by Jacksonians fleeing Jackson, can be the Jacktown equivalent of Pripyat's radioactive wolves. OH! Wait! One rendering has white silhouettes of people. More Pripyatesque imagery. Perfect!

Didn't some big, ugly, black glass nihilistic monolith downtown just sell for pennies-on-the-Dollar? Nothing succeeds like success! And if at first you don't succeed, then just keep right on a doin' what you did wrong LAST TIME. Only, let's build something even UGLIER, in groovy EARTH TONES! Nobody wanted the grey one. Then nobody wanted the black one. So this time, lets do a MIXTURE of neutrals: a SMORGASBORD OF BLANDNESS. Yaaaaaa... What a CONCEPT!

I suppose the 'incredible' (as in, NOT CREDIBLE) part would be that it is hardly credible to believe that such a project could be feasible, unless it is absolutely SLATHERED with 'Incentives'. And even then, I foresee a few goniffs leaving the scene with briefcases full of incentive money, while everybody else is left holding "The Bag" (in this case, an empty-but-trendy shopping bag...)

Honey, "The District" looks like the parts of Miami Beach north of the Doral: as in, the parts that really need to be DEMOLISHED, because they're so depressing.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
