Trollfest '09
Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.
Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).
Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.
Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".
In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.
In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.
Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.
Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!
This is definitely a Beaver production.

Trollfest '07
Jackson Jambalaya is the home of Trollfest '07. Catch this great event which promises to leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Sonjay Poontang and his band headline the night with a special steel cage, no time limit "loser must leave town" bout between Alan Lange and "Big Cat"Donna Ladd following afterwards. Kamikaze will perform his new song F*** Bush, he's still a _____. Did I mention there was no referee? Dr. Heddy Matthias and Lori Gregory will face off in the undercard dueling with dangling participles and other um, devices. Robbie Bell will perform Her two latest songs: My Best Friends are in the Media and Mama's, Don't Let Your Babies Grow up to be George Bell. Sid Salter of The Clarion-Ledger will host "Pin the Tail on the Trial Lawyer", sponsored by State Farm.
There will be a hugging booth where in exchange for your young son, Frank Melton will give you a loooong hug. Trollfest will have a dunking booth where Muhammed the terrorist will curse you to Allah as you try to hit a target that will drop him into a vat of pig grease. However, in the true spirit of Separate But Equal, Don Imus and someone from NE Jackson will also sit in the dunking booth for an equal amount of time. Tom Head will give a reading for two hours on why he can't figure out who the hell he is. Cliff Cargill will give lessons with his .80 caliber desert eagle, using Frank Melton photos as targets. Tackleberry will be on hand for an autograph session. KIM Waaaaaade will be passing out free titles and deeds to crackhouses formerly owned by The Wood Street Players.

Jackson's comeback begins. The Brumfield house will be right behind.
Pretty damn stupid move by Greyhound. Nobody that rides a bus lives in Flowood. Should have pulled out of the metro altogether.
The Jackson Business Apocalypse is upon us!
Way to go Lumumba if you can't protect the bus and train station who wants to use it? I guess we might as well get ready in Madison for a new train station.
I hope you jackson people like what you have voted for. Hate to say it but Kenny is somewhat correct.
No Daiquiri Bar there.
Well. I live in NE Jackson and practice ortho in flowood
It’s odd because our parking lot has had some homeless people in flowood lately. I’ve not seen it until recently and I heard a patient of mine say they’re now near the stop light by Newks and dogwood more often. Police in flowood run them off though unlike ridgeland, Clinton and Jackson police. Greyhound will no doubt bring more homeless population to this dogwood area. It’s inevitable really.
That's right 4:27. Should have done it like the airlines. Make the fare cheaper to drive from Jackson to Memphis to catch a bus to New Orleans.
"Next stop, Flowood, MS." Hahaha. Love's wants the business. Jackson's leadership could care less until it's too damn late. I'm sure the riders will prefer being able to pick up a quick snack without being harassed.
Why would canton want all the bums that use greyhound?
Awesome! This means the derelicts that have been getting bus rides to Jackson from various health facilities and police departments around the state will now be arriving in Flowood.
Enjoy your new residents!
This is where Jackson, Flowood, and pearl city limits meet
Kingfish, what is the police dept of Jackson policy in terms of homeless people or the mayors? Seem pearl flowood police run them off
Just glad it didn't come to Madison.
"Greyhound will no doubt bring more homeless population to this dogwood area."
Umm, pardnah, the new Flowood Bus Station is at the Love's Truck stop down on Highway 80 near 49 and the Flying J. It's in that little sliver of Flowood adjacent to Pearl. Word's probably already out to the walking homeless...go THAT way down 80 into Jackson and NOT that way (into Pearl).
Flowood police run them off? To where?
Gonna have the Offlets of Flowood right across the street from the Outlets of Pearl!
Honestly, I thought Greyhound left some years ago!
The Dogwood area looks more like Jackson everyday. Everyone who can is fleeing Jackson, can’t blame them, no clean drinking water, open sewage in streets and yards, crime, many streets virtually impassable due to potholes, if they can afford to leave that have or are leaving.
Pelahatchie is the new Flowood/Brandon.
@4:40 PM - Well, Jackson's leadership probably "couldn't care less," don't you think?
Let the homeless hang out at city hall.
@4:37 NE JXN orthodontist practicing in Flowood. Homeless people want straight teeth too. Probably easier to treat too since they probably have fewer teeth to move.
Chokwe has already decreed the homeless, vagrants, sign toters and beggars have a right to ply their trade in the city limits of Jackson. Looks like the Supreme Court agrees. Freedom of speech or some such nonsense.
You cant worry about a mans problems more then he does 88% of Jackson think Chok running the city further down is okay with them.
Speaking of the city of Jackson and idiot attorney Lumumba, Richards disposal just picked up my trash on my street. Workers had no rain gear, and not a single thread of high visibility clothing (not OSHA compliant). Are these the good jobs for citizens the lying’ idiot attorney Lumumba said Richards would bring?
Lord, try not to read too much into these type of things. First, ALL the bus lines have been moving to this type of situation for many years. Second, it's nowCloser to I 20 by far and the same distance to I55.
Here's how Greyhound addressed another city's similar move: " “Greyhound stops at a range of locations across its extensive network. Similar to the rest of the intercity bus industry, some of these stops include convenience stores, gas stations and restaurants. While Greyhound was not the owner of its previous location, we did a thorough review of our business in Knoxville and decided to transition to the aforementioned industry-wide model so that we could continue to provide this essential service to this community.”
"[W]e believe we owe you honesty, and we’re working continuously to deal with that.”
Pearl River Sewage Polluter Lumumba
August 22, 2022
What remains unclear is if the Emperor is merely grappling with being honest, or if he's struggling with the concept that he owes Jackson any sort of honesty.
Guess now the Multi-Modal Transportation Center will be one less modal. If Amtrak had another way to get from NOLA to Chicago, you can bet they would pull out of Jacktown, too.
If Amtrak had another way to get from NOLA to Chicago, you can bet they would pull out of Jacktown, too.
They would likely take a dirt road to avoid Jacktown.
Good move by Greyhound. Cloe to I-20 and I-55. Plenty of parking. a Restaurant that will cater to those who use bus transportation. Bath and shower facilities. Likely cheaper taxes. Safer location. Better police services. Decent water and sweage services. I can see it working just fine there. I might get me a pack of ciggies and MS Wagners pies and strike out to look fOR America. Better than hitchiking from Saganaw!
Yep…all the money spent in 2001 to build the depot and just shot down the drain. Typical of Jackson.
I took a Greyhond from Ft Sam in San Antonio to Austin and back one weekend (40 years ago) Started reading The Godfather paperback as the bus pulled out of San Antonio on Saturday, and then as we left Austin headed back on Sunday. Stopped about ten times going and coming. Read the entire book during my bus ride. Was a great weekend away from Post.
Just wait until the Landmark building fills up with Section 8 residents. Time to post sharpshooter Capitol Police on top of most of the buildings downtown.
So that 20 million dollar renovation back around 2003 averaged a million dollars a year to get to to where we are today. Totally worth it.
"Honestly, I thought Greyhound left some years ago!"
Same here 5:11 PM, I thought they had been gone for at least five or ten years.
I’m betting the new QuikTrip being built beside Love’s isn’t real happy about BusHound coming to be their neighbor!
Several years ago we took Amtrak to NOLA with the kids. While we were waiting, one of the kids needed the restroom. Not seeing the one near train stand, we ended up in the restroom next to the Greyhound stand. We walked in, there were multiple people nearly completely undressed in the open taking sink baths in there. All I know is, I’ll be staying away from the Pearl Love’s in the future.
What the hell Rhoads and Aldermen, why would you allow such a lucrative business come into our city? This is so much better economic boost than the car wash and dollar tree that you approved.
4:27. I’m interested in the busing demographics and you must be too. You must be board.
Greyhound Jackson was going to the dogs.
@9:04, “board”. Truly an embarrassment for people with an education (outside of JPS, JSU, et al (look it up, requires minor effort) that regularly enjoy JJ’s content. Best of luck… Bonus/PS: the word you were trying to spell is bored. Stay gangsta.
Released Parchman inmates get a one way bus ticket to Jackson if no one shows up to get them up when released. Joke's on Flowood.
The area around the train station had become a concentration camp for homeless, mentally ill, and drug addicted. No place in the entire state put the soup kitchen/homeless shelters in close proximity to rail lines and bus services like the Jackson facility. It was a recipe for disaster. If western downtown of Jackson is going to attract commercial development that situation will need to be addressed. Although it's a loss for Jackson per se this move is a first step. Don't forget at one time not long ago the Greyhound station was off Jefferson Street near the fairgrounds. If Jackson had leadership they would have gotten ahead of the situation and pushed to get the bus depot to relocate back there before this happened. Oh well...
9:04 - I've been hired by Kingfish to react to key words. If you're looking for the airport board thread, this is not it.
Flowood will regret this! It’s a horrible company with worse customer service. Flowood police will confiscate more drugs than ever before.
@11:35 PM - the bus station on Jefferson St. by the fairgrounds was Trailways. The old Greyhound station was on Lamar St., not far from the Sun-n-Sand hotel.
@11:03
Your wrong… the joke isn’t on Flowood. I live in ne Jackson I have a medical practice in flowood and one in ridgeland. I can tell you as a Jackson resident that flowood can’t be compared to city of Jackson officials. Flowood actually gets results and has accountability unlike workers in Jackson. It’s sad the failed leadership likes to look good for pictures and have good ole time on taxpayers dime but can’t get the first
Thing right. The people hired are largely equal in terms of education and skin color. No real diversity here. Seems phD Omari is a scam herself
What a sh!t show that lady is
WOW!!!
Pitt and most other Jackson cheerleaders bemoan any criticism of the leadership and plight of the area, yet they openly enjoy any opportunity for the suburbs to experience similar levels of distress.
Weird moral code, indeed.
This is more Pearl/Jackson than Flowood. Hwy 80/49 and I20/55 split.
To the person talking about homeless people by Newks in Flowood, I call BS. I go through that intersection 100+ times a week and have never seen a homeless person from the river bridge all the way to Hwy471.
Sharing a memory; Around 1967 when I was 13 my older brother and I went to that Greyhound
station to catch a ride to Monroe. The tickets our parents bought were $6.00 each and I played
Otis Redding’s “Sitting On The Dock Of The Bay” on the jukebox. The buses were clean, shiny
and the drivers wore snappy uniforms and new how to really drive.
For a poor Mississippi boy from Brandon it was a great encapsulated moment.
Everybody calm down! The Silver Puppy moving to Flowood/Pearl is a good move for them. They don't want to navigate inner-city streets. It takes too much time. Moving to this intersection of 1-55, I-20, U.S. 49 is a time and cost saver. Love's isn't an amateur operation and will move the people off their property after a reasonable time. And bus riders may be poor, but they're not vagrants. What you see loitering around the Jackson transportion/railway hub are the homeless looking for handouts. Between Rankin County deputies, Flowood and Pearl po-po this isn't going to become a shit show.
Within a couple of blocks of the bus/train depot there are homeless shelters and free food lines and lots of viaducts and vacant buildings which Pearl, Flowood, Clinton, Madison, etc. do not have. Any city with those conditions will have a real problem with homeless and vagrants. Go to any major city and find those areas and you will also find the homeless and their trash. Jackson was simply shortsighted to locate the bus station there in the first place.
Greyhound/Love's could bus the vagrants/bums/hobos back to Jackistan, where they belong.
Keep right on thinking the Jackson cess pool doesn't affect other communities in the area! How far y'all gonna keep moving out? North of Canton? East of Brandon? South of Byram?
Blame the Mayor for some of this .
Remember that $3 million going to Planetarium? It was originally going to fix up that station, which desperately needs it. Well, the Mayor and a couple of legislative allies got it changed to the planetarium. Governor vetoed it while he probably would have approved the train/bus station project.
@ 6:41 Great Simon and Garfunkel reference. Too bad we cannot get Ms. Wagner pies any longer. A better time for our country.
I agree 9:56.
How do you propose we intelligent suburb residents rescue Jackson so we that don't have to endure the pain of the horrible leadership the city residents have selected?
Do we get a vote in how things are to be turned around?
Because we would welcome that.
KF, what would the potential revenues have been for a functioning planetarium vs an improved bus station?
I do think the building should be architecturally preserved with plans for future use.
If some of you will open your eyes, you will see that these new "veneered" buildings of cheap materials are showing their age very quickly.
All that glitters isn't gold.
@9:56am - As far away as it takes.
You Spacers are a trip.
WOW. Just how much money was allowed to be stolen on the Farish Street project? I dont see the renaissance. Go look! Jackson is fast becoming, and looking like, a dystopian Mad Max war zone.
I remember when Amtrak stopped in Canton at least two times a day going north and south. Trailways also stopped several times daily near the Circuit Court on W North and Union St.
Look at Tyler, TX. The new Greyhound station is just a cash register at the gas station. No seating and no signage. Cuts down on costs and unwanted people.
If Jackson could only receive billion$ more in grant$ things would greatly improve, right?
"I remember when you used to be able to get a Hershey for a nickel."
Greyhound is closing physical stations everywhere. Part of their new corporate model. Everything will be done via app.
Need better gossip.
4:36 Doesn't matter. We're hanging Jackson, keep quiet.
ahaha, Love's is not zoned correctly so Flowood sent a Cease and Desist letter per WAPT

FloHood and the Rez are already experiencing white flight, if you build it they will come. I’ve seen also Jackson researchers in Florence and Richland. As far as bums, I’m curious about the watch rotation the scammers have on 18 and Greenway I wonder if they stand a 4 hour watch at the intersection. I heard they had a city by Wal-Mart and the water tank on 18/Maddox. For a little while they had a set up on Henry Hill till they burnt that building down. The JPD escapees that are now Pearl and FloHood cops will probably just dump the bums back over in Jackson.
I agree with 8:27am, I call BS too. Ortho guy @4:37 should walk through his own waiting room sometime, last time I did I could have sworn it was the Greyhound station. Agree with 4:36pm, this thread is a nothingburger.
If this proposed relocation actually violates the zoning ordinance that would be interesting indeed.
If this happens, it will be the biggest regret Flowood will ever have. Now if you want an increase in drug smuggling and people avoiding capture due to warrants then Flowood will be happy.
Good luck Flowood.
No more police chase into Jackson because Flowood Police will be too busy chasing the "HOMELESS from "LOVE" and the "GREYHOUND BUS STATION" back into Jackson.
I remember when Continental Trailways had a bus station on Pascagoula where the planetarium is now. It had a cafe with miniature jukeboxes on the tables and pay toilets. That was in the 1970s. I could see the Heidelberg and King Edward Hotels (both closed by then) from the parking lot.
Does anyone know if there is a blog that has information and pictures about all of the old buildings that are gone? I had never heard of the Heidelberg Hotel and it appears to have been demolished. I found a site with a single postcard. What happened to it? Did it become a crackhead hotel like the King Edward?

I found a website to satisfy my curiosity and wanted to share it here.
https://misspreservation.com/
Lots of articles, pictures, and history about old buildings still standing or lost, around the entire state.
Funny, 6:15
"[W]e believe we owe you honesty, and we’re working continuously to deal with that.”
If they're "working continuously to deal with that", they're REALLY saying, "We're not honest, but we'll get more honest sooner or later. Maybe."
