State Auditor Shad White issued the following statement.
Today State Auditor Shad White announced Servia Fortenberry and
Sevetrius Dillon were indicted for embezzlement. Special agents
separately delivered demand letters to both individuals.
Both Fortenberry and Dillon are accused of wiring payments to themselves from a city account without approval. The pair are also accused of claiming to work for the City of Natchez at the same time they were working as consultants for a town on the opposite side of the state. City leaders in Natchez filed a complaint at the Auditor’s office when these alleged schemes were discovered.
“Thank you to the city leadership of Natchez for their cooperation in this case and to the investigators and prosecutors who have moved the case forward,” said Auditor White. “As in all cases, we will continue to push hard seeking justice for the taxpayers here.”
Fortenberry was served with a $14,836.49 demand letter at the time of her arrest. Dillon was served an $8,029.98 demand letter. Interest and investigative expenses are included in both demand amounts.
All persons arrested by the Mississippi Office of the State Auditor are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. These cases will be prosecuted by the office of District Attorney Shameca S. Collins.
A $50,000 surety bond covers the employment of both respective individuals at the City of Natchez. Surety bonds are similar to insurance designed to protect taxpayers in the event that public money is misspent. Fortenberry and Dillon will remain liable for the full amounts of their demands in addition to individual criminal charges.
Suspected fraud can be reported to the Auditor’s office online at any time by clicking the red button at www.osa.ms.gov or via telephone during normal business hours at 1-(800)-321-1275.

Gosh shazam!
Shad scoring almost a solid #2 picking all the low hangin fruit.
Getting it served up by the whistle blower sure helps it look like he's doing his job.
Can someone answer a question does that there
whistle blower immunity
automatically stop all them left wing witch hunt subpoenas? Or does a person need some ongoing help from the new big guy? (I'm asking for a former duputy!)
Is John Davis talking?
This little turd Shad White thinks Mississippians are fucking idiots. HE SAID at the Neshoba County fair: "We do not get to choose who gets prosecuted," White said. "We audit." Apparently, his office does in fact facilitate some indicting and arresting.
Soooo, how is it that these small fries were indicted and arrested, yet Phil Bryant and Brett Favre are on the beach laughing about their scam?
Can SOMEONE please explain the difference? Is Fitch running interference? The Republicans in Mississippi are just as corrupt as Biden's cohort. Just unbelievable that they literally cover for one another!
Nah...I'll never get caught, watch.
"Shad scoring almost a solid #2 picking all the low hangin fruit." Along the lines of the old Broken Window Theory of police work, but it's not dissuading many.
" yet Phil Bryant and Brett Favre are on the beach laughing about their scam?"
I'm not sure that's an accurate description.
It's more complicated than you may think.
Two goofy city employees are easy to bust.
The others are a "tad bit" smarter, thus a forensic audit will take longer.
But if the former Guv and crew are found guilty, Shad should go after them just as hard.
If he doesn't ... Shad should be investigated.
At some point Shad is going to have to explain what appears to be his efforts to cover for Phil Bryant. He needs to explain it to the public and I’m sure the Feds have questions too.
Shad has turned into a total politician unfortunately. He even went so far as to join the National Guard in what appears to be nothing more than a political resume builder for a guy who has never had a real job. He’s owned the DHS case from the very beginning owning all of the indictments and arrests, etc. Now he wants to distance himself from Phil, Favre, Southern Miss etc. all while claiming he’s wanted to create a bi-partisan “team” from the beginning. Total political BS.
This pencilneck’s Twitter keyboard warrior shit talking is hilarious. He backed down from from the communist professor. What a wuss
Servia and Sevetrius - One in a millions odds those two are related, perhaps twins.
"He even went so far as to join the National Guard"
DEW WHAT ?
Please elaborate.
"State Guard" perhaps, but surely not the Army National Guard.
So he needs to explain to the same Feds he gave his files to?
The professor’s file is with the AG.
Facts are stubborn things.
@3:14–Shad is not the idiot here. The State Auditor does not have the authority to arrest or indict. As he said, his investigators audit and investigate and turn their findings over to either the district attorney or the attorney general. What those prosecutors choose to do with the results of the auditor’s investigation is entirely up to them.
Yeah, Jody Owens hauled off on his own and indicted everyone except Phil Bryant and Brett Favre. Jody made that call. The text messages released recently to the public alone scream conspiracy, yet no charges for Phil or Brett. C'mon now.
Looks like Jones County’s finest are up and at them this morning.
The “communist professor’s file was transferred from Shad to AG after “communist professor” lawyered up & told Shad lets go to court big boy. At that point ole Shad couldn’t get rid of the “communist professors” file fast enough. So now someone needs to ask the AG what is the status of the case that ole Shad tried to accuse & try in the press until said “communist professor” lawyered up!
So, Lynn Fitch declined to arrest and prosecute? Why isn't the spotlight dead on her and her office?
If the retired governor and retire quarterback are guilty, by all means indict them. But these two are not a clear and present danger now.
Jackson's village idiot is a danger and Shad needs an extensive audit of Jackson's finances.
You sheep who keep begging for Shad to do something about Canton, or Jackson, or any other person, municipality, or entity of any significant measure need to pull your head out of the clouds. He's not going to do it. He's not. It's readily apparent that he feeds on the low hanging fruit. It's good red meat and generates the headlines that his followers want to see.
@9:02 unfortunately true. The pattern is to expose county clerk, county assistant clerk, or county fleet manager, Tweet about it, seek praise on Facebook, pen another Op-Ed about crime, speak at Rotary or a retirement community, then repeat.
Why does Kingfish refuse three attempts (this being the fourth) to point out that Servia Fortenberry and Sevetrius Dillon are mother and daughter working in the same department, making a small-time criminal enterprise that much easier?
Is John Davis talking?
11:46 - Is he working at the municipal water department these days?
4:28 said: "But if the former Guv and crew are found guilty, Shad should go after them just as hard. If he doesn't ... Shad should be investigated."
Wait, now...WHAT? If the governor is found guilty, he should be investigated? Come back?
