(Dec. 7) JPD is investigating a shooting that occurred on Dalton St. near Topp Ave. just before 2:30pm. A male fired shots into a vehicle wounding a female. She was transported with a leg injury and is in stable condition. Incident stemmed from a prior altercation with another male.

Then there are the interstates.  JPD issued the following statement yesterday.
Jackson Police are investigating a fatal shooting.  It happened this earlier morning, just after 2:30 am.

Officers responded to the University of Mississippi Medical Center after a wounded male arrived by private vehicle.  Officers learned that he had suffered a gunshot wound the back and had been pronounced deceased.  The victim , who was one of four occupants inside the vehicle, was injured after someone fired shots into their vehicle on Interstate 20 South Frontage Rd near Gallatin Street.  Another male occupant of the vehicle also suffered a graze wound but was treated and later released.

The victim, who is a Hispanic male, has since been identified but his name is not yet being released.

Investigators are currently following up with new information that could potentially lead to a suspect.  That information will be provided when it becomes available.

Currently, there are no indicators to suggest that this incident is connected to a similar one which occurred earlier in the week on Interstate 55 North near Beasley Road.

Anyone with information in either of the incidents is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 601-355-TIPS(8477).  A cash reward of up to $2500 is possible for each incident, if the information given leads to arrests.
Speaking of Interstate shootings, a similar incident took place in Ridgeland by I-55 Friday night.

At least the Christmas tree lighting was delightful.

The criminal element in the Metro is becoming increasingly brazen. It is only going to get worse.

You people thought Kim Wade's warnings were exaggerated.

Anonymous said...

Unbelievable now its bleeding over into Ridgeland. Time to build the wall at county line. Seriously they will be sorry that made it to Madison County Line there will be arrests and punishment.

I perceive some crime. Aren't Baby Choks anti-crime initiatives kicking in yet? Maybe they need a little more time.

Maybe the folks monitoring those anti-crime surveillance cameras were on a break...each and every time?

Maybe it's just a failure to communicate?

Maybe it was a full moon?

Maybe it's Trumps fault?

Russian collusion?

Vast left wing conspiracy?

The victims had evidence on Hillary?

Don't forget this evening's (Sunday) triple shooting (one dead)at the Northwood Village Apartments.

It's not even a full moon, but 83% illumination. Maybe that's sufficient.

Yo Baby Chok...I perceive a pattern of violent crime. What say you?

It's the perception of crime. As David L. Archie say, "it's those dirty low down white folk"!

As long as the population of Jackson continues tolerate this in their community and continues to elect a judiciary that embraces lawless culture and perpetual savagery this is exactly what they voted for. A refusal to hold community members and elected officials accountable due to some perceived or real clanish cultural connection merely perpetuates and accelerates the problems in the metro area.

This state really needs to relax its gun laws a little bit more, that'll put an end to all of this gun violence!

Saw three urbanites buying ammo at Bass Pro Shop last Friday. Underwear exposed, pants around their thighs. All three had the same hairstyle like a bucket of earthworms. My own prejudices made me suspect they were up to no good. Do any retailers still sell ammunition in Jackson?

Meanwhile the worst thing that happened in Rankin this weekend was Flowood PD arrested a violent felon with a handgun who was visiting our prosperous community from the City of Jackson.

Time for another “Crime Summit “ by the leaders of Jackson

10:17, do the citizens of Rankin laugh about the possibility of an innocent person being shot in the crossfire? But since it’s Jackson you don’t care. Did you think to stop a minute and get a police to check them out? Because I’m from Hinds and I would have. Usually appearances can tell you a lot. Just imagine them in a high speed chase and hitting someone you know and just thinking that you could have done something about it.

When there were no places to build nice homes in Jackson, people moved out. The people that took over think a 50 or 60 year old house with a $50,000 car out front is living high off the hog. There is no one else to sell these homes to. So when your parents and grandparents left it created a void. Now, there is no clear answer to the housing. All that can be done is take over the run down areas of Jackson, sell it for pennies on the dollar to developers who might do something. In the meantime, when you see 3 thugs buying ammo, how about contact a Rankin Law Enforcement official and I’m quite sure by the time they get out of the parking lot they will be detained and properly imprisoned.

And gunshots were heard in about 4 of the stoic peaceful neighborhoods in Madison the City’s East side. Right up hwy 51 from Ridgeland’s Whataburger shooting Friday night. Just read the Facebook pages for the neighborhoods.

Where are Festus and Matt when we need them. Don't call Doc. Let 'em bleed out.

10:17, so you advocate for denying the sale of a legal product based on appearance alone? I bet if you saw me in public you might be surprised of my profession, and might have a similar reaction.

Thanks for at least be honest enough to admit your own prejudice.

These acts of violence are a cultural issue. There is no cure. It has evolved over the past 50 years.

Anonymous said...

It all goes back to the home and how people raise their kids. Maybe a breakdown of traditional morals and values is the major factor here.

Anonymous said...

Are any of these gang related? Why is it I never hear mentions of gangs in Jackson anymore? Maybe they are gone now.

Literary prize to 10:17 for the hilariously spot-on simile: “hairstyle like a bucketful of earthworms”! Ewwww.

The mayor no doubt perceives this weekend's violence as just more peace in the streets.

@ 9:45
Who are you calling "you people"?

Anonymous said...

You people thought Kim Wade's warnings were exaggerated.

Kim advises everyone to learn the belt-buckle crawl. Good advice.

As usual, the same stupid assumptions that Jacksonians " tolerate" crime.
We don't. The JPD doesn't.
We understand we live in an urban area with pockets of poverty and high crime areas.
We understand that criminals and crazy people sometimes don't seem to stay within geographical boundaries. They even venture into Madison .
Like most urban dwellers, we understand the risks vs the benefits of living in a city as opposed to a suburb or small town.
Love how you all ignore Pearl crime.

Why do we worry about "changing neighborhoods"? Look at the house on the corner of Ridgewood Road and Saratoga Drive, in the Heatherwood neighborhood of "fashionable northeast Jackson". Unreal that some "people" are so sloppy and tone deaf. Property values just tanked.

9:27.....been into McDades Maywood Mart lately? GEEZUS.

To the uninformed...
Every Friday at 4:00PM on 103.9 WYAB, Kim Wade announces his warnings to flee the City if Jackson before sundown. And that if you are caught after sundown, and you aren't strapped down (armed) then you better learn the belt buckle crawl. He then proceeds to play a recording of tires squealing as everyone at City Hall and JPD headquarters get out of town as quickly as they can.

Drugs, poverty, single-parent homes, abysmal education system, and easy accessibility to weapons have slowly and generationally transformed Jackson into a third-world country. Jackson's problems have been ignored for so long that they have overpowered all the possible solutions. The only good thing you can say is that it can't get any worse. The culture has been so degraded and coarsened that it is beyond repair. White flight and Black apathy have screwed Jackson into the ground and it cannot be fixed.

4:24AM, just what do you think a law enforcement officer is going to do about someone making a legal purchase in a retail store?
We live in 2019 and you can’t just shake people down because you don’t like their looks.

Your comments about why the parents and grandparents moved out because there was no place to build nice houses are totally misguided.
The reasons we left are simple and I will state them in terms that even you should be able to understand.
You don’t like us. (No reason to deny it, it is true).
We don’t like you (not even thinking about denying it).
You move in, we move out.
You elect corrupt people to run the city, county and courts and your area deteriorates even further.
Gangs spring up and the criminals take the place over.
Now you have another Detroit, Chicago, Baltimore, you name it.
Us leaving didn’t cause it, you brought it on yourselves!

LeMaster had us at 78 on Nov 20. We've got to be in the low 80s (82, 83, 84) now.

9:27 and 10:20 are correct. Look at almost every neighborhood in northeast Jackson. Drive around and look at them. The cancer cannot be stopped now. Thank you for ruining a city.

@10:30 AM, believe dead body count is now 83 for 2019.

you people talk as if no crime happens in Madison or rankin counties lol....All these internet racist lol....We're tough on the law out here blah blah blah..... Just as much crime in your lil cities just not reported on the local news... Stop being internet racist and run for office... oh yeah I forgot probably a room full of meth heads in rankin county making these racist comments...

Anonymous said...

@1:36
The stats don't lie. The test scores don't lie. Rankin and Madison are safer and more successful than Jackson.

And a bucket full of earthworms describes the hairstyle perfectly.

Anonymous said...

Yes 1:36, crimes are committed in Rankin and Madison counties just as they are everywhere but on a much lesser scale than they are in Jackson or for that matter Hinds county in general. Many of the crimes in Rankin and Madison are committed by criminals from Jackson.
Now if you want to try to call me out on this observation understand that I spent 30+ years locking these people up, so I have first hand knowledge of the subject. It has nothing to do with racism, it has everything to do with people of whatever race trying to do what is right and that my friend is the difference between Jackson and Madison/Rankin counties. You have sat back and let the thugs take your city over and if there is ever to be a fix for that is will have to be the decent people of Jackson who will have to bring it about. You will have to vote out the corruption and embrace moral values to do it. Quit howling about race and fix your own problems. Ain’t anybody else going to fix it for you.

I moved several years ago to a city roughly 4 times the size of Jackson and city leaders here are freaking out about 29 murders this year. If Jackson doesn't get serious about solving its violent crime problem the city will fail, and nobody but government agencies will locate there.

Anonymous said...

Even the State government agencies are bailing out of Jackson 3:14 PM. The criminal element has taken over to the point that is is just too dangerous to travel through many parts of the city. The Capitol Police have taken control of the immediate area around the State Capitol and are doing an outstanding job, but to get there you still have to travel through what has become f free fire zone. I-55 North has become s shooting gallery. North of Woodrow Wilson and West of North State Street is effectively a combat zone, likewise the area around McDowell Road in South Jackson. These are just a few of the areas to avoid, there are many more.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
