Yesterday was a horrible day in Mississippi. A Lincoln County man killed eight people at three different locations yesterday. One of the victims was a Lincoln County deputy. Three women and two boys were killed as well.
The Clarion-Ledger's Therese Apel did a fantastic job of reporting the story yesterday. She somehow managed to get the killer (alleged) to confess to her on camera. Rest of article. He told her that "suicide by cop was my intention" but he ran out of bullets.
The story floating around Brookhaven is that this killer's wife wanted to leave him. He went to the home of her parents to kill her and her family. He next went to home of preacher who had counseled her to leave. Preacher and wife had left but asked a football player to stay with their two boys. He killed or tried to kill everyone he thought encouraged his wife to leave him.
The Mississippi Department of Public Safety issued the following statement:
Agents of the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation with Lincoln County Sheriff’s deputies and District Attorney are investigating the shooting deaths of eight people, including a Lincoln County deputy. A suspect is in custody and is being treated at a Jackson hospital for a gunshot wound.

The second crime scene was located at 1658 Coopertown Road in Brookhaven, the bodies of two juvenile males were located there. The third crime scene was located at 312 East Lincoln Road, a male and a female were recovered at that location. The suspect has been identified as 35-year-old Willie Corey Godbolt of 377 Brister Street in Bogue Chitto. The investigation is on-going and any persons of interest are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.Other agencies involved include the Mississippi Highway Patrol, Bureau of Narcotics, Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks, Pike, Walthall, Franklin, Copiah, Lawrence, Amite counties sheriff’s departments, and the Brookhaven Police Department.

With an incident as heinous as this, and with the suspect admitting to the crime.
We need one very inexpensive bullet to save hundreds of thousands of dollars of housing this pos.
How can this be happening so much in Mississippi? The leaders of the state must examine their morals. I am sure everyone will agree had this happen last year it would be Obama's fault. Multiple murders have happen in our state since the election. THIS must be Trump'so fault. There has to be a connection between the Republican leadership of our state and these crimes.
Isn't Memorial Day, the day we honor soldiers that died on the battlefield?
@11:08 if it had happened under the previous president he would have blamed it on bush. Don't you recall the the great leader always blaming all negative issues on someone else. The characteristics of a great leader, huh?
12:31 so what your saying is, is that nothing changes. Tater and Feel have been blaming Mississippi's economic problems on Obama forever, and Trump blames everything on the Media!
This nut was not too efficient at "suicide by cop" but he was very efficient at slaughtering relatives. How often do you see a mass murder shooting where no one was wounded. This guy is an extremely dangerous and cold blooded killer. They should maintain maximum security around him throughout the criminal process or he'll do more damage.
is there an appropriate reaction time something like this?
What an asshole. Make him live and suffer. Death would be too kind.
240 pounds? Right.
11:08 AM you're just ridiculous and intellectually dishonest. The blame for this rests on the shoulder of our society that for my entire lifetime (43 years) has devalued life by accepting abortion as normal and not the holocaust it is. Then, we have a government system that fosters policies with a deliberate intent to destroy the family unit and reward behavior that continues to breakdown families and devalue life (i.e., receive more benefits when you aren't married or have multiple children out of wedlock or just get an abortion to rid yourself of the inconvenience and we'll pay for it). To top it off, our culture glorifies everything that is heinous and terrible and calls it good while castigating and mocking everything righteous and good and calling them bad. Finally, people have become so weak and brittle emotionally and spiritually, that one can't even have a disagreement on anything without said disagreement coming to violence.
What the hell else do you expect to happen? I force much more of this type of situation happening unless people begin to seek the face of God for repentance and healing.
I am surprised that so many of you are unaware that when a woman tries to leave her abusive spouse or lover, it is sadly very typical for the her ( and often any children of hers...they don't even have to be the abuser's children) to be murdered by the abuser. Anyone the abuser holds responsible is at risk as well. Suicide, after the murder, is also common.
This isn't about politics or religion.
This is about mental illness and our inability to recognize and treat mental illness before it ends in tragedy.
Frankly, some of those commenting are rather obviously suffering from mental illness as well. It is crazy to make such bizarre connections of unconnected events. And, I would remind 2:38 am that some of the most abusive and insane mass murderers in all societies have done in the name of God by those who proclaimed themselves to know His will in all things. Worry about your own sins and soul first to be sure you aren't " puffed up" and don't have a log in your own eye as you sit in judgment on others who don't interpret Scripture as you do.
People, 11:08 was being facetious, and you bit. I can't believe some thought he (or she) was being serious.
8:59 is exactly right! Why do we need to take it any further?
He did it. He admitted it. He said he accepts his punishment. He dies.
Very simple, yet society wants to complicate it so.......
