The city of Jackson submitted an open records request to various airport authorities and their corresponding local governments throughout Mississippi. The requests are rather interesting in that they ask for color photographs of their respective governing bodies. Jackson did not request that there be a paragraph and arrows on the back of each color glossy photograph.
Jackson addressed a letter to the City of Quitman Clarke County but sent it to the Clarke County Board of Supervisors:
However, the attorney for Clarke County, one Greg Snowden, responded with a reply designed to put Jackson in its place:
Further, in response to your request numbered 5, we cannot imagine any legitimate reason for you to request a color photograph of the members of the Board of Supervisors unless your request is so me how racially motivated. We would appreciate a clarification to this request and a racially -neutral explanation, assuming one exists, for what appears (1) not to be a public record, and (2) something that we can fathom no lawful basis whatsoever for you to request. If you are serious about wanting a color snapshot of the Board of Supervisors , we keenly await your legal explanation as to why you think you are entitled to the same. Certainly, the names of all sitting and immediately prior-serving members of the Board of Supervisors may easily be obtained by you from the Secretary of State 's office. Their "Blue Book" is an excellent publication, after all, and I am sure a copy is readily available to the largest municipality, in the State.Ouch.
Kingfish note: These letters were obtained through a public records request. JJ first submitted a request to Jackson yet Mr. Snowden's letter was not included in the records provided by the city. JJ also submitted a similar request to Clarke County and his letter was included.
Now why wouldn't Jackson include that letter?

Hmmmm "color" photos, huh?
Burn!! I love a thoughtful and witty roast using legalese. Good find KF!
Yeah, those color photos are necessary for race identification. I can't tell the white people from the black people in a black and white photograph.
Looking at all those B&W photos from the 60s, I thought Martin Luther King was a white guy. It took a color photo to set me right.
Come on, now! If a white person requested a color photo of a black official and that official kneejerked that it was racist to request a "color" photo, I would think someone was trying to stir up trouble where none exists.
Same here, but in reverse. I have no idea why they specified a color photo, but if they want to somehow target people by race there are a number of methods other than a color photo.
I think the bigger issue is that the Jackson airport board is a complete embarrassment, as outlined here.
He's right but he's unnecessarily being a dick about it.
I'm pretty sure that the color and/or black and white photos will reveal that most, if not all, of the board/commissioners in the jurisdictions requested, will be white. You know the "goose and gander" thing lawyers, racists, Blacist's, activists, Supreme Court Justices, Congressmen, Senators, police, judges, bankers, jailer, soccer moms and all other saints and sinners play in this country.
FYI: Yes, James Henley, JMMAA Commissioner is a minister, as well as a CPA and Attorney. A bit over qualified in most circles of professional endeavor. Yes?
My God - color photographs? What a childish and transparent gambit. What county or municipal government has time for such foolishness? Serious local governing bodies are more concerned with maintaining infrastructure, keeping the peace, attracting industry and promoting commerce. The Clarke County attorney saw this for what it was and declined with obvious amusement the City of Jackson's offer to play in the racial sandbox. Good for him - Jackson city leaders need to be reminded, regularly and often, how utterly foolish they appear to most other city and county officials in the state.
I would love to see kingfish request a interview of some sort with lady wanting color pictures. It would be priceless… Im sure the rest of the world will dismiss this but, its pure racism.
He's right, and he's not being a dick about it. Snowden is a very bright individual and a damn good attorney. If he had wanted to be a 'dick' as you describe it, he could have done so easily. All he did here was point out the obvious while recognizing that the City's request did not pertain to anything covered by the public records act.
Obviously the city attorney is trying to build a case biased on racial issues - a stupid move on their part, but why should that surprise anyone. But a better question might be what the "City of Quitman Clarke County" have to do with it, besides the fact that is not the Board of Supervisors? If I wanted to be a dick, my response would have quickly pointed out to the idiot deputy city clerk that there is no such entity and they need to decide who they are asking for such racist information.
would someone please provide a link the the lawsuit concerning the Jackson airport? I am new to this board and am confused as to how the City fits in if the Airport Authority is being dissolved.
I think kingfish who PD file an ethics complaint against the city for withholding requested documentation. While
He's at it, he should request a list of all city employees involved in this project, and also have them provide color
photographs of each individual see if they are willing to walk the walk!

Search for it. Put in some actual effort.
it's a public records request. if those items are not on record, they have not request. perhaps these places keep color photos and the other minutia, but the requests are even more curious in a broader sense.
I see what you just did there Officer Obie...
Go ask Alice, I think she'll know.
Why don't they go the airport and take pictures of the self-appreciation monument in the ticketing lobby. I love all of the self-affirmation these folks need....
