Stamps: Clinton could be another Ferguson, calls for new leadership

Jackson Councilman DeKeither Stamps and several community activists held a press conference Friday at the corner of Capitol Street and Tennessee Avenue. The subject was police chases into Jackson by police departments of surrounding cities. Some highlights of his comments are:

*"My condolences to the family because someone doesn't have a father today... That's the first thing we must keep in our minds because someone is not here."
*Mr. Stamps urged people to "use your dollars to affect the economics of the city of Clinton until the policies of the city of Clinton change. It's not just Clinton, every surrounding city who refuses to use common sense policies must be economically challenged, economically challenged because it's not safe for you to shop there."
*"Clinton is a Ferguson waiting to happen. Clinton is a city with a high minority population ( U.S. Census 2014 estimate: 37.5% black) and oppressive police tactics. It's steps away from a Mike Brown (Does that mean suspects are punching cops in the face?) It's only a matter of time if this culture does not change and does not change quickly"
*It seems to me there are some elected officials and police officials who want to maintain the culture. What we must make them understand is that culture is not acceptable.  Misdemeanor property crimes are not worth human life."
*"No one should be going 120 mph in Clinton or Jackson.... I've never seen anyone outrun a radio.. "
*I want to call on the Clinton residents.. You've got to vote these policies out. Municipal elections are coming up and those who support these kinds of oppressive policies, need to understand that there are people in their cities who do not agree (Isn't that true of any policy?).
*(3:03) Mr. Stamps said "I call upon all surrounding areas to stand up for justice" and "not make our metro area another Ferguson. by oppressive police tactics and help us move Mississippi forward..."
*"The rest of the world is leaving Mississippi behind because of this culture of oppression"
*I leave you with this. I say often Mississippi is still a slave state. They abolished slavery but enslaved everybody with the seeds of hatred and oppression that have poisoned the minds of good white folks and good black folks."

Meanwhile, here is the video of the rest of the press conference:

Kingfish note: Clinton PD told JJ last month that 37% of all people arrested in Clinton in 2015 were from Jackson.  The Clarion-Ledger only published 40 seconds of Mr. Stamps' remarks that lasted 4:40.   Jackson Free Press publisher Donna Ladd sharply criticized the newspaper for doing so.  However, Mr. Stamps was pretty strident and consistent in his speech after he offered his condolences to the Blue family.

37%? That's all? Do these goobs on council actually WANAT Jackson hoodlums to be able to steal, kill and rob in nearby communities and rush back under the porch in Jackistan? Really?

"Kingfish note: Clinton PD told JJ last month that 37% of all people arrested in Clinton in 2015 were from Jackson."

What percentage of them were black?

These political phonies like stamps and stokes are publicly doing this bc the areas of Jackson they represent vote when they're told to be out raged or pissed off. Lack of education and financial hardships in his districts also helps the uninformed voter. Just a ploy to assure the poor areas they represent actually will support them and vote them in every time.

Just looking for some excuse to loot and burn. Some free advice, better keep the looting and burning in Jackson where it belongs. If you try it somewhere else you may find people do not like thugs. It won't hurt Jackson as most of the city looks like a battle ground anyway and burning would be an improvement.

Motor mouth can't take care of his own crap. He should stay in Ward 4. Some people would gladly take him up on his threats.

Looks like a good old type range war about to start. Jackson folk will kill every thing in Jackson and then move on the out lying areas. It will be a great battle with the National Guard finally taking over. I picked up and moved my family and all I had to another state a year ago; I have seen enough war in my lifetime.

The Stokes and Stamps mentalities believe laws don't apply to their kind. Folks may defend their families and property. The hoodlums don't have families and property, don't work, and are uneducated. Unfortunately they are just in the world, being, and doing what they do best.

He kept saying that the "culture" must change in the surrounding communities... wow! Imagine if the Mayors or alderpersons in these areas stood before a news press conference and demanded that Jackson's "culture" must change...

If you people in Jackson will just shut and keep on hiding in your homes every time a thug comes by, we the people surrounding Jackson, will take care of the trash. We can handle them. We are not afraid of them. We will not let them scare us. We will stop them.
You people in Jackson just go ahead and hide under your bed. Let the real people take care of your problems.
That is the problem with having to support, pay for food and housing, for most of Jackson. Now we will have to clean up after them.
Just keep hiding. We will do what you are to afraid to do.

We've got ourselves a JFP vs. Clarion Ledger battle royale brewing over the reporting on this issue.

Let's be clear, Donna Ladd would give her eye teeth for a true Ferguson-like event to go down in one of Jackson's neighboring communities.

JFP is a weekly freebie niche rag staffed by unpaid interns and headed by a person chock full of white guilt. The Clarion Ledger is the state's largest daily newspaper. In the past year or two the Clarion Ledger has broken some big stories because they have the resources and know how. JFP not so much. Apples and oranges.

Anything to shift the focus off of Jackson. And it works!

Look for CNN trucks at the Extended Stay places on 55.

Former JFP managing editor, Brian Johnson, is being wooed by Donna Ladd to move back to Jackson from Chicago to save Donna from herself and her ego now that R.L. Nave jumped ship.

That both the right and left immediately try to make political points before the bodies are identified out of respect for the families is horrible.
There was a time when those who jumped on any personal mistake or short coming or tragedy for attention were well understood to be the worst among us.
Now being the town gossip and busy body is a lucrative profession!

That's right, when you can't deal with your problems at home, find them somewhere else.

It is very sad and unfortunate that an innocent bystander was killed by this police action. Making a reference to Ferguson is ignorant and inflammatory.

Anonymous said...

Stamps is running for Mayor. If you think he ignorantly made the reference to Ferguson you couldn't be more wrong.

Stamps and his sort are just saying what is needed to get elected in Jackson. That is what the people want to hear. One thing we can be thankful for is that most of the thugs are hiding in Jackson. Thanks to all law enforcement officers for keeping them in that area and chasing back all that venture out.
Could we get a tall fence along with the toll booths sweating stokes wants to build. Sounds like a win for both sides.

Tell ya what. You boycott the suburbs, and the suburbs can boycott you. Let's see who wins. Starts today. Not another damn cent in Jackson.

They have planted and replanted the seeds of oppression. The victim mentality will get you nowhere.

Meanwhile, another homicide in Jackson. I see this councilman has shown no outrage over the homicide rate in Jackson.I see he has his priorities straight. Forget about educating black men to be responsible, honest, or hardworking. Let's shovel blame, irresponsibility, and laziness onto the black community like any good black leader would do.

Anonymous said...

Black leaders only stay black leaders if they blame every thing on the white man. If one ever has the back bone to stand up to the thugs they will not be a black leader anymore.
Other cities can learn a lot from looking at Jackson. If you want a stinking cesspool do what Jackson does.

Anonymous said...

How about you focus on crime prevention, keeping thugs in jail, education and father figures for the Jackson thugs who grow up and rob and kill, so there won't BE anyone to chase out of Clinton.

CLINTON NEEDS A WALL

The thugs from Jackson would steal the wall.

Started my boycott of Jackson when Stokes made his chunkin call to the masses

Mr Stamps stay away from Clinton. They will hurt you and be rude to you too.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
