Lead is killing a lot of Jacksonians but it ain't coming from the water....

Can't help but wander how long the City has known about this and kept it to themselves. If my unborn child has any illnesses related to this I will sue the dump of the City for everything it's worth. The State of Mississippi would be infinitely better off without Jackson. Is it possible to kick the entire City out of the State? Residents included.

Its a way to update the entire system--let trump make jackson great again. he will do all this for free: just like a new health care system, a free wall with mexico.

I myself employee nearly 85 men and women that live in jackson or in madison flowood area. Hell my neighbor in jackson has a company that employees over 200 people. Mostly middle class families in madison or rankin county. Also most developments in that area are from jackson.

@10:31 AM. You are unbelievable. The lead problem being experienced in some HOUSES is caused by the plumbing in that house being tested. When they were retested, it did not occur but in two houses. This is a huge disparity. There is a whole lot more to this story but you probably would not understand. It has to do with methods of treatment which are mandated by the EPA for places with a certain number of residents. The suburbs still mainly use chlorine which does not leach from you home's plumbing, but has the side-effect of producing harmful waste in the water.

Perhaps before you point fingers and suggest terrible solutions, you should study the problem. If you believe the sensational media hypes even part of the time, you are doomed to everlasting ignorance and opening you mouth when you should listen and read.

One of the original sample locations that tested for lead a second time is in LeFleur East. Not good. They've got lots of sewage leaks there too.

I hate to break it to you, but the City of Jackson, as well as most of her residents, are not only an embarrassment to the State, but to the Country as well. We would all be better off if we could figure out a way for Jackson and her residents to float down the Pearl and into the Gulf.

Jackson should be obliterated from the map as it's a blight on the entire state. The obvious choice is for an educated electorate choose qualified and caring candidates. And that means for our so-called "qualified" legislature to pass certain bills that benefit the entire state and not just certain constituencies. Please 12:13 - enlighten us. Tell us one state agency that has removed their water coolers for this kind of reason. I call b/s.. (1) - I don't believe there is a state agency that gives a damn about whether Jackson looks bad or not; and (2) if they did, I don't believe that they would be this thoughtful to make a connection.

The facts kinda ruin the Jackson-haters club. Once they get by the headline they run into problems. Granted, realize most of these folks didn't have time to actually read the presser while flipping their burgers at McD's in Pearl.

But, "the City of Jackson's source water and finished drinking water leaving the plant do not contain lead." Lead was found in trace amounts in 13 sites in Jackson. After retesting, only two of those sites had traces of lead and one of them was from a private well, not from water supplied by the City.

If there is lead in the water it probably - as noted in the release - came from the plumbing inside the site. The only other option would be from water in the city's distribution line. But basic engineering would indicate that the city's lines are probably not the source because the water has to stay in contact with the lines for a period of time in order to leach lead from the pipes. This would indicate the interior lines (unused water would sit there for long periods of time, whereas the city's distribution lines don't stay static.

2:30 hit it on the nose. When your tax base is depleted, you want to be early to the fed funds on an issue because this thing is pervasive in many cities and ultimately the issue may fizzle. Get in early and be the poster child (think detroit) so someone else's money will help rescue you.

Asking the congregation to buy your children shoes is tough, but in the end, your children may get shoes. Lets get us some new infrastructure on the fed's dime!

Mississippi is last in virtually everything (and no, it is not because Jackson is bringing the rest of the State down - in fact, some of the State's wealthiest neighborhoods are in the City). One of the things our State lacks is quality education, which could reduce a lot of the bigotry demonstrated on here. Of course, most of you don't see anything wrong with bigotry, so that's that. So go on, be an embarrassment for Mississippi and do all you can to keep the State at the bottom - something I'm sure you're proud of.

In most areas when property get to a certain low point that is a chance to buy and get a good deal for one day the property will rise in value. This rule of investing does not work for modern Jackson. There is a very good bet that anything bought in Jackson will just continue to drop more until there is zero value.

I was born and raised in Jackson and stayed until my neighborhood got so bad that I had no choice but to leave. Jackson has many problems and is nothing like it was in my youth. I hate it and often point out the problems. When BS is being passed around someone needs to call it out. Thank you @3:18 for doing so. This is not a system wide problem. It is localized in individual houses. Hell, when I was growing up my parents taught me to let the run briefly before drinking it and to never drink or cook with water from the hot side. I still follow these procedures to this day. This is nothing new, just common sense. As bad a Jackson is in many respects, this panic over lead in the water system wide is not necessary.

Jeff Good is posting on social media that this is an overreaction and water safe to drink. He says media is retracting warning. I haven't seen the retraction. Where is Mr. Good getting this info?

3:59, Probably most folks who were around from the 50's thru as late as the 70's were taught as you were - to let the water run a minute and don't drink from the hot side.

Good plumbing at that time was often with copper pipes. But they were soldered, and the solder then had lead in it. Copper gave way to cheaper PVC and now to PEX. I don't know that we realized exactly why we were supposed to let it run a minute, but even without a reason it was just the practice.

Thanks for your comment about when BS is being passed around someone needs to call it out. Problem with that theory is that with the typical JJ comments, that 'someone' would be full time busy - either with the BS of the post or with the dozens of comments being put up by a handful of people.

The press conference is absolute clownshoes. More money for free lunches. White flight and Jackson being a "blue" city listed as contributing causes. Stamps brings up Beyonce. The smartest person there was the woman trying to explain water science to people with a JPS education. My takeaway was that the city wants more money to replace privately owned house pipes for free for the same morons that already don't pay for water and are a net negative to state and federal revenue.

Seriously, I voted for the guy because I didn't want the Detroit guys behind Lumumba running the City. The press conference was so confusing, I still don't know what they were trying to say. If the subject matter was not so serious, then I'd be ROFLOL. But, the topic is serious. Being mayor is serious. But, really. How can you take this guy seriously? Saw that the Mayor was asking help from the state and neighboring cities/ counties. When neighboring cities/ counties police were chasing Jackson's criminals back knto Jackson, Jaxkdon did not offer to help catch the thugs. Karma. Fix the problem yourself . The state did not cause the problem, neither did Pearl, Richland, Clinton, or Madison County.

It's sad that all this prejudice and racism exists in such a huge concentration. Saw Mr. DeKeitha Stamps on public access channel a couple of weeks ago saying that the Governor of Michigan (a Republican he pointed out) was directly responsible for causing the deaths of 100,000 black people in Flint, Michigan because of lead issue.

Irresponsible comment by Stamps. Always easy to blame a Republican for any ill in the community anywhere. Obama has gotten away with it for years and he doesn't stop with just "Bush did it". He rarely makes utterances in public that the bad ol' Republicans are not blamed.
