You can't make this up. Charles Taylor and Nsombi Half-Bright of the Mississippi NAACP asked all police officers to stay home on Election Day. Watch the video clip of their Monday press conference posted below.
“Setting up roadblocks near precincts is a very suspicious form of voter intimidation,” said NAACP Jackson President Nsombi Lambright. State NAACP leaders said they were surprised to see Capitol police officers set up a roadblock and stopped drivers near JSU one day before Mississippi’s general election. “It was very alarming to us. It does raise a lot of questions about what the purpose of this checkpoint today was,” Lambright said. “They were checking both license plates and licenses off individuals passing by right next to the largest voting precinct in the state of Mississippi, which is Jackson State University,” said state NAACP Executive Director Charles Taylor. Monday morning, close to a dozen Capitol police SUVs with blue lights flashing set up on University Boulevard at Lynch Street as students came onto and left the JSU campus. Standing outside the governor’s mansion, Taylor said he believes the heavy police presence near an HBCU on the eve of a major election is voter intimidation. The JSU Student Center is a voting precinct. Article.
What WAPT did not report is Mr. Taylor said is "We are asking that there will be no law enforcement out anywhere (tomorrow) in the state of Mississippi."
A JSU student was murdered while a separate shooting took place on Dalton Street last month. Another student was murdered last year. Students write how scared they are to go to school on social media. One student at my gym even created a video where she was sneaking to class while the Jaws music played in the background. That is the environment at Jackson State University right now. The university asked the Capitol Police for help. The Capitol police answered the call with more patrols and a more visible police presence.
However, none of that means anything to Half-Bright and her friends as grandstanding in front of cameras is more important than protecting students and that my friends, is the bottom line.

Why am I not shocked to learn that the news media chose to omit the most shocking statement made during this little demonstration. The folks working at these TV stations know nothing about impartiality and objective news reporting.
I've always heard education was the cure for ignorance, obviously that's not true.

S*** like this demands a "mental health day" which consists of leaving work early and laying in bed with a bottle (of milk) and crying myself to sleep.
The NAACP continues to live in the past. And that is not an accident. They know the organization has no useful place in the future.
@9:39 you are spot on, keep the donations coming to support the talking heads.
@9:26 when you are educated by online professors that are steeped in the same ignorance this is the result.
Half-bright? Couldn’t have a more descriptive last name.
Someone needs to force the NAACP to pickup the hundreds (yes hundreds) of “VOTE” signs they placed on Hwy 25 at every crossover from Holly Bush to Sandhill and down Hwy 43 past Pisgah. They are littering the road. How do I know the NAACP put them out? The top line reads NAACP.
So much for the "non-partisan election volunteer" t-shirt, if they're accusing Republicans of voter intimidation.
Non-partisan Election Volunteer...hahahaha
KF made up the "Half-Bright" name. Her real name is Half-Wit.
I'm sure the police presence deterred citizens with active warrants and driving stolen cars, who would otherwise be out voting.
@11:49 WRONG
The NAACP made the signs available to anyone who wants to distribute them into the community. Stop spreading your bigoted lies.
I welcome the police to set up anywhere, any day cause I have my credentials in order. Now if you are driving without drivers license, no insurance and or warrants you need to stay at home.
You know I never knew why I never joined any group such as the NAACP. Oh I know why, I can think for myself!
Nobody in Jackson Mississippi is intimidated by the po po!
Kingfish, I had to watch that twice. What?! At no point in time have I ever said---oh no, keep the police away. I happen to like seeing a police car around. This man actually said he wanted all the police in the state to just stay away. Dumbfounded.
Their job is to fight discrimination, if they can find it. If they can't find it, they simply make it up no matter how ridiculous. It's a living.
The NAACP and SPLC have made "victimhood" their middle name.
The NAACP president is wearing a shirt reading, "Non-Partisan Election Volunteer."
Wow...
This is your future.
