Coming Soon

Well, well, well.  Sources say Mr. Jerry Mitchell and the New York Times are working on yet another story about the Rankin County Sheriff's Office.  The story supposedly goes all the way back to the Nokia days of 2004.  The story is supposed to be published near the end of the month.  Stay tuned.

Rankin Rocks!

I'm sure the NYT will come up with a very accurate and informative piece.

I thought the "Goon Squad" were a bunch of rogue thugs and that everything else in the RCSO was peachy.

They did last time

Way back when all of the national protests were occurring due to officer involved shootings I thought "well it won't be long until we make the national news here in Rankin"

and here we are

Not like they’ve got to make a bunch of stuff up.

Anonymous said...

Yes, I'm sure they will. They're a fucking international newspaper not an alt-blog.

There's much to observe here, in no particular order.

Local publishers are not doing this, e.g., the Clarion Ledger, the Sun Herald, Mississippi Today, Emmerich. The NYT which sells 3 newspapers daily in Mississippi is doing this. Say what one will, at least the Times is stepping up.

Yes, this will give the Times a platform to say Mississippi is lost, run by Republicans and in the most Republican county in the state, look how law enforcement works. We will cringe when we read the article. But, recall the first point. No other publisher is on top of this situation.

The fact the article will eviscerate a sitting public official is huge. The sheriff has no defense for allowing this behavior in his department. He must sit there and take it, though surely some will rally, hopefully ineffectively, to his defense.

The public may have made peace with this already and, if so, shame on the public. Peace in this situation is long away. The distance can be shortened if the populace expresses outrage and insists upon the sheriff's resignation. But, like other creatures, we tend to give a pass to bad conduct when the offender looks like us or votes like us.

As for me, I am glad the article will run though I prefer it to have been by a Mississippi publisher. I look forward to gaging the public's response. My hope is that Jerry Mitchell's participation may give traction, as Mitchell's work has done in other investigative reporting.

What I really wish is that my fellow conservatives would speak up. Express disgust for the actions, and heart-brokenness for the victims. As Grisham's passionate character, Jake Brigance, implored his jury, picture the brutal torture, the anal raping, the cover-up, the shame, the pain. Now, see two white men victimized by five black law enforcement officers.

Sad part is citizens are far more concerned with what's next at their shiny amphitheater than their pos elected law enforcement official.

Jerry Mitchell has made more money from race baiting than Al Sharpton has.

Well written and very accurate!
I know if only a few Republicans who have spoken up so far. Agreed we need more to step up!

Anonymous said...

I would like to see Bubba Bramlett step up and give us a plan as to why this was allowed to happen and what steps he is taking to make sure it never happens again, as the chief LEO for the County! Also where the hell is Lynn F !!??!!

Anonymous said...

Well the statute of limitations will have run out long ago for anything short of murder or child rape. And he has already been re-elected. And the Tate doesn’t show any sign of forcing BB out. So he’s basically going to get away with whatever they are writing about. Same with the spying on his girlfriend and same with the suspicious way she got her kidneys.

these redneck thugs here in rankin county deserve all the press they get

Attn 9:56 where is Lynn F? She is probably like me, she is scared to go into that lawless place.

What an absolute failure for local and regional journalism.

Anonymous said...

It’s up to actual concerned citizens to pressure the feds/state to do something! At least that fella that sits on highway 80 holding signs in Brandon every weekend has some balls !

Anonymous said...

During the water crisis, the NYT bought into the narrative that the state wasn't funding the city and the flood waters stopped operations at the reservoir treatment plant. Also accentuating that there were Republican/Democrat and Black/White issues affecting resolve. Let's see how they decide to spin this one. Shock and awe leads to more clicks.

Kingfish said...

DA is out of this one. The feds and to a limited extent, the A.G. are investigating and prosecuting.

Jerry Mitchell is doing the legwork from what I understand so it is local journalism. It's just going to be published on a national level. He has some good sources giving him tips, which in turn enables him to develop other good sources.

Let me get real with you. Rankin residents want low crime and safety. If a few folks on the fringe of society get abused and have their rights infringed, then that is a price to pay. Those folks should know not to act crazy Rankin.

In matters of safety and security, to Rankin voters, the ends justify the means. You can't make an omelet without breaking a few eggs.

These are thoughts in the back of the minds of most Rankin residents. Publicly they may be outraged, secretly they are glad someone is on that wall, doing what needs to be done to discourage bad behavior.

It's similar to the broken window theory. You let something go, without correction, and it keeps getting worse, exhibit A Jxn.

Anonymous said...

Between Jerry Mitchell and the NYT, it wont be biased in any way, only honest facts. Yea.

Anonymous said...

Deppity Feel probably thinking

"Thanks for blaming the reporters and not the whistleblower!"

"Express disgust for the actions, and heart-brokenness for the victims. "

If you read this blog regularly you would have realized that most of the readers here have expressed nothing but sympathy sympathy for the unfortunate victims of the recent nauseating behavior (now being in, or heading into, civil court, so I'll let their lawyers take over from here). No one has supported violence or torture for innocent people as far as I can remember.

Anonymous said...

All you bleeding heart liberals that like to bash Rankin County are the very ones that live safe in Rankin County because of actions in which you don't want to know about. It keeps you safe. Obviously you want Rankin to fail because the neighboring Jackson is a corrupt cesspool, but in a different manor. Just let the Dems take over and in 3 years, we will all be in concentration camps. You scream racism, but sometimes its the truth.

Anonymous said...

"Not like they’ve got to make a bunch of stuff up."

Well, the apparently undisputed and done-pleaded-guilty-to facts already disclosed in one single incident involve putting a pistol in a "suspect's" mouth and firing it (and apparently not even knowing how their own weapon functioned), attempted anal rape with a dildo, making two "suspects" shower together, throwing food on the "suspects," etc., etc., etc.

Next is the issue of Bailey's separate conduct regarding his girlfriend.

Then the issue of the brawl on the beach. Etc. Etc. Etc.

Nobody really needs to "make stuff up" when it comes to RCSD or other aspects of Rankin County. Maybe someone at the NYT has a contact at the DOJ or other federal agency and prepping something for when the next jackboot drops.

NB - the use of the word "suspect(s)" above but in quotes is deliberate, acknowledging the minuscule possibility that the men tortured by these clowns were reasonably suspected of some actual criminal offense.

Anonymous said...

I am glad that a light will be shown on the alleged corruption in the RSO. However, I don't believe Jerry Mitchell is the one that should be carrying the light. His final report will be totally biased.

Anonymous said...

Even though Goon Squad wore Goon patches on uniforms, Bailey never noticed or questioned? Maybe "Knew or should have known" applicable.

Anonymous said...

"If a few folks on the fringe of society get abused and have their rights infringed, then that is a price to pay."

What an asinine thing to write.

Our rights are sacred and God given. The most "fringe" Americans have the EXACT same rights as the clean cut Rankin church goers.

Equal rights and due process are what made America special, and they deserve to be respected without compromise. Shame on all those who believe otherwise.

Hey 9:34!

You can have tough on crime without having police brutality on a few innocent home dwellers. They aren’t mutually exclusive.

For all of you who think Rankin Countians have made peace with this breaking of a few eggs to fight crime, just wait about 18 months from now when the feds fine Rankin County about $30-40 million to compensate the victims in this case. That’s when the shit will hit the fan. And that’s when the sheriff will be on his way out.

Anonymous said...

@ 1:52

Gonna be a hell of a lot more than 30-40 million and yeah, this dude can go kick rocks because we residents are going to eat that bill. There is no way this guy didn't know what was going on with these guys........and as a white rankin county resident haven't met ONE SINGLE PERSON who condoned this behavior.

These guys are going to end up as a damn display in the civil rights museum............

I worked at the CL for 10 years during that time I had limited contact with ole Jerry but I can tell you he is different, aloof and self centered Often in the break room with just the two of us there he never ever acknowledged anyone unless you were from the newsroom. You could speak directly to him, "crickets". Even crossing the street from CL private parking lot, "nothing".

I was in the lobby one day looking at the Pulitzer Prize he helped the CL win. He walked down the steps from the newsroom and I said "nice work", nothing.

Aside from that he seemed like a nice fellow.

I know him now and that is the farthest from the truth and I am a nobody.

Agreed 100%
With all the future cases we don’t even know about yet that amount will be astronomical!

Rankin county voters just re-elected the leader of the gang. If that’s not approval of their tactics, then what is? I get that many rankin folks are rightfully embarrassed that their dirty laundry is out in the air, but pretending you didn’t ask for this is dishonest. The reputation of the Rankin County Sheriff’s office was built on decades of abusing the citizens’s rights in direct opposition to the constitution and no one saw a problem. It’s too late to claim ignorance and repent, no one believes you. This cleanup should not be left to Rankin County to handle, we need outside people to clean house and institute a new leadership that follows the laws of our nation and state, not the laws of the sheriff and his deranged buddies.

You, good sir, are very naive. You think if you had been to Epstein Island that your name would be redacted? Heck no it wouldn't. The more wealthily and politically powerful one is, the more right's he/she has. Poor folks have less rights, as you go up the economic chain the more "rights" you amass. Look at our current and former POTUSs, had any of us pulled half their shenanigans, we'd be looked up and never heard from again, not running for election.

Poor people get pooped on by society, always have and always will. If you're poor in Rankin County and get caught breaking the law, you're going to pay dearly.

For poor folks who intend to break the law, I recommend doing it in Hinds.

The Clarion-Error could’ve put a man on it, but then the other guy left down there would have to write everything else and clean the shitter too.

As with anything coming from Mainstream Media, the upcoming piece should receive the question, "Yes, but why are they telling us this?"

You can bet there's an agenda. With virtually everything, these days, there's an agenda. At the very least, coverage is tweaked, so as not to contradict 'The Narrative'. Nothing must unpaint the carefully-painted picture of the world, which Mainstream Media has been instructed to paint.

Those pushing One World Government, do not like that sheriff's offices are accountable to local populaces, and are elected by them. World Government would like to control your Sheriff. The Sheriff, at least in theory, represents THE PEOPLE - potentially, against unjust governance coming down from state or national (or international) bodies.

The upcoming story should be interesting. It will probably be true. But why is the agenda-heavy New York Times troubling itself to tell us that story?

Anonymous said...

Look at the vote totals. Bailey had roughly 11,000 folks that either didn't mark the ballot or put someone as a write in. At least those folks have been paying attention. I hope that guy stands out in front of the courthouse every weekend.

Anonymous said...

The C-L writer, Wicker, left to take a job in Florida.

Anonymous said...

@9:52 - so why are you telling us to question the mainstream media? What is your agenda? You said the piece will likely be interesting and true. Do you think newspapers should print interesting and true articles that educate readers about the topic?

Wow said...

There's nothing clean cut about Rankin. You can put a suit on, but you're still just a third and fourth generation bootlegger.

Anonymous said...

Dear Woe, I don’t know where you l live but assume it’s on the west side of the mighty Pearl. Just remember it was your Daddy who crossed the river to do business with the said bootleggers. Big Red was a pretty nice guy, as long as you didn’t get in his face.
Yes the Sheriffs during that era looked away and got paid for it. The same thing happened on the west side, just not as well known.
In the 60’s there was a casino off White Rock road that enjoyed protection from Hinds county government including then DA Bill
Waller. None of these activities caused a problem for those that didn’t participate. Rankin County has grown dramatically in the last few years and 98% of the population enjoy living there without any problem. But I have to agree as do most that the current Sheriff needs to go.

This anticipated article will most assuredly be interesting. Situation is absolutely serious, question is 'did' he know or 'should he have known?" damn right he did know & should have done something about it years ago. He absolutely hung his Deputies out to dry in this situation. having gone to the house that night, I'm sure he realized a situation was at hand. to tell the media he had no knowledge, that his Deputies lied to him is the apitimy for a chicken shit Sheriff. he should have Stood up with his Men & accepted his Responsibility up front. Chickens lead from behind, Men lead from the front-

Anonymous said...

Bryan Bailey is the poorest example you can find as a leader. He should have come forward in the beginning and excepted responsibility but he didn’t because he knew for years those deputies were out of control. It wasn’t a secret to anyone in the LE community and he wants people to believe he didn’t know but we see through your cowardice. Hide little man. Your legacy can’t be saved.

Anonymous said...

Prior to this horrendous act by thugs wearing a badge, Sherriff Bailey was seen as the example of what one would expect as a top law enforcement in any county in our great state. We have five thugs currently in jail and I believe they will give up any information they can to help their current situation. If Bailey is the scumbag most of you believe, then surely there will be an indictment with his name coming soon.

So very proud of Jerry Mitchell.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
