Rankin County Sheriff Bryan Bailey issued the following statement.
On Tuesday November 28, 2023, at 2:14 p.m. the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office received an emergency call about a 21 month old child being attacked by a dog in the 400 block of Rose Hill Road in Rankin County.
Rankin County Deputies along with Rankin County Animal Control, Cato Fire Department, Puckett Fire Department and Pafford Ambulance Service responded to the scene.
Once on scene responders found that a 21 month old child had lacerations to face from being bitten by a family owned “Curr” breed dog.
The child was transported to the hospital for treatment.
The family possesses vaccination paperwork on the dog and did not want the animal removed.

It's an unfortunate reality that when dogs bite young children, the bite is often to the child's face. I have scars on my own forehead from a neighbor's Norwegian Elkhound when I was 3. One puncture was close to my eye. The neighbor had 2 daughters somewhat older than me, yet the dog had never bitten before and never did again after. I was probably poking or grabbing at the dog, as toddlers do.
Dog trainers will tell you that many dogs don't recognize or understand human babies are human. They behave more like prey due to small size, erratic movement, squealing noises, etc. Both dogs and toddlers have to be taught how to behave, and should not have access to each other that isn't actively supervised. (A distracted adult is NOT 'actively supervising').

It’s not the Cur that should be removed from the home…
It's "Cur." Very unusual as this would usually have been a pit bull.
Parents seem to think an awful lot of a dog-not to remove it.
It's news because it wasn't a pit bull.
Methinks a dog bite isn’t big news but the high sheriff of Goonorhea felt compelled to issue this statement. It takes a lot of dogs to deflect news of domestic terror and obstruction of justice. Sleep well Rankinites.
Famous last words, he/she doesn’t bite
Irresponsible people should have their dogs taken.
@9:43
I see what you tried to do there but it missed the mark
old guy walked up to the porch of a house where an old lady was rocking. He asked would her dog bite. She said no. He reached to pet the dog and it bit the mess out of him. He locked at her and said "I thought your dog did not bite!" she responded "that ain't my dog"
Dog bites child
Shotgun bites dog
Simple as
The Civil dogs will be out soon.
Sad, but true.
Parents think more about the damn dog than the kids.
A lot of children grow up in home unloved!
But they are such a gentle bred....
BREAKING NEWS!! It wasn't a pit bull.
@7:51 I have trained dogs, and you are spot on. Dogs need to be acclimated to babies and children of all races before the dog is 3 months old. If properly socialized as a puppy, a dog is substantially less likely show aggression to children or strangers. I recommend that, as soon as a puppy is old enough to have all of its shots, it be taken to a park and introduced to children and adults.
We are told about a dog bite but we were not told about all of the deputies, cars, trucks, ambulances, and private cars from the sheriff's office parked in front of a home in Plantation Shores. Was something going on or was it another dildo party?
