The Mississippi Department of Public Safety is investigating an arrest made during a traffic stop in Pike County after video of the arrest surfaced on social media.
A trooper wrassled Eugene Lewis to the ground in the video as bystanders screamed the trooper beat the suspect in a vehicle. Lewis was arrested for driving under the influence.

How do you watch this without using Facebook?
I do not know what led up to the arrest events other than intoxication but it is sad to see how others are treating law enforcement enticing the situation.
These F^^king dumb a^^ people resists arrest.
They don't comply with any law authority.
They are breaking the law & try to escape justice by not complying.
Then these race baiter sends it to a liberal news outfit (WAPT) that reports it as a hate crime.
I'm so sick of this!
The single police officer did a great job.
He should get a award for keeping drunk drivers off the street!!
They don't comply! Right! Right!
Like chockweed Luebumbba doesn't comply with the EPA & allows sticky raw S**T flow into a creek!
Officer will be exonerated.
Shame on Adams and Mike Neelly.
Why would anybody want to be a cop these days?
Hi ho, hi ho, it's off to work we go! It's Time to clown Carlos!
@9:17 could be wrong but don't think Neelly running the show there any longer. Regardless, the story was obviously run to inflame racial division.
what an ignorant, loud mouth, fool. All he's doing is escalating the situation. He should be arrested and held accountable.
Here is what I see. Video starts with a man in handcuffs who doesn’t look like he is complying with the officer. Nobody know how long he was resisting. There is at minimum one man on the side of the road who is yelling and another man who is yelling while filming. Stressful situation for the cop all because it appears someone wasn’t cooperating with an officer.
Why isn’t the AG’s office investigating this?
Really? Facebook video? This is why nobody takes you seriously besides dumbass boomers.
I watched it. I don't know what the whole deal was other than we had one guy handcuffed, who appeared to be playing keep-a-way, and a bunch of others talking smack and recording the situation. There was take-down of someone who appeared to be resisting arrest. Why was he handcuffed, don't know and will probably never know. Could it have been because the officer felt like it to show who was boss because he felt disrespected (possibly, they do have a chip on their shoulder) or for a legitimate reason (also possible), We don't know that. The last bit where the MHP officers pulled their guns on the folks that were recording appears to be retaliation and retribution. Appearances can be deceiving. More could be involved AKA:Nick Sandman. If it was retaliation and retribution, that is the very reason more and more taxpayers are losing patience with all things government. Definitely needs to be investigated by an impartial group(if one could be found) MHP will almost always exonerate their own unless it is gross malfeasance(my opinion).
Mark Twain wrote nothing is as easy as it looks, and i guess that's certainly true about being a police officer.
And I pose now as a serious question: Is there any reason why excited black people repeat the same things over and over?
Sounds like a few other people need to be in handcuffs.
@9:54am - I don’t know, but it’s annoying and ignorant AF
Well, 9:43, perhaps you should get out more. WAPT, WJTV, and the CL all linked to the Facebook video.
eh...looks like heavy handed policing. not that it's going to change anything...
Well, we are only seeing PART of what took place.
We saw the same outrage a few years ago when a woman posted a FB video of a MHP arrest of her boyfriend. The media and CNN got all mad and crucified the cops.
Then JJ got the entire video and it showed a whole different story.
Unfortunately, the media could not be bothered to follow up and show what really happened. They did their hit and run and moved on.
Where are the ‘Defund the Police But Still Keep My Neighborhood Safe’ crowds comments?
Let me say first that I believe, and follow law and order. I also, don't believe, in the abuse of power under the color of law.
We need to let time reveal the truth of this situation. As one poster above said, this is spread, by the news media, to cause division among the people. We don't need more division.
Let the truth come out and then handle it in the appropriate manner.
9:54 to your question: I don't know, but you're exactly right. I've noticed that in almost every candid video I've seen for years! Maybe they believe the point is better made if repeated incessantly.....
The solution is simple, only allow black LEOs to police blacks and white LEOs to police whites. If in the event a LEO pulls over one his opposite color call in to appropriate LEO. The blacks are always going to be confrontational to a white LEO, but you never see or hear of them being combative with black on black. They already do this a lot with females by calling in a female officer to assist.
Either way, the officer did not have control of the situation. Should have ignored the film crew and tended to the perp. Hope he gets more training and all ends well. We need all the law enforcement we can get!
Um, there have been quite a few incidents between black officers and black suspects.
In case you didn't notice, we had such a case in Hinds County Circuit Court last week.
11:25 is on to something.
I agree KF, it does happen. But at least the race card variable is removed when the skin tones match.
That is better than the immediate accusation and lack of all other facts being considered.
August 9, 2022 at 11:35 AM; he can't ignore the film crew. they are, arguably, more of a threat than the inebriated dude in handcuffs. and in today's world, it would not surprise me at all if the dudes filming actually started fighting with the cop, or worse. might be why the white guy in the truck stopped to watch. just in case shit went sideways.
Shoulda just sat him down leaning against that speed limit sign and handcuffed him around the sign post and called in for back-up. Maybe there was a fire ant bed around the sign post.
As a long time LEO rest assured that you will never win a roadside argument.
I believe the film crew were his brothers. If that’s accurate, those guys have been well know to local and state law enforcement for a long time, like 20+ years, for serious felonies (some alleged and some convicted).
9:54 AM, I have often wondered the same thing. Why do they repeat the same thing time after time just getting a little louder each time. I think they have been watching too much court tv. It happens all of the time on there. Maybe they think they will be a movie star if the continue yelling the same thing over and over. Had to delete what I thought the real reason as I know my post would not be posted. Even this one may not make the cut.
If anything comes from this it might be the state legislature mandating and funding body cameras for the Highway Patrol. It's hilarious that the "premier law enforcement agency" in the state still refuses to wear them.
Seems "the man in handcuffs" started resisting arrest once the Facebook film crew arrived.
A few observations:
1. The perp was lucky not have been shot.
( a face plant into some roadside Kudzu is better than a bullet in his head ).
2. A segment of the McComb and Magnolia voters have been taking cues from Jackson for awhile now.
(Summit is the only remaining nice, safe town in Pike County).
I know ... As I moved down here years ago to escape what Jackson was becoming.
3. Promote that brave State Trooper ... and award him the highest medal within the Department of Public Safety.
Could somebody point me to just one instance where a perp complied with the LEO and was subsequently harmed/killed/abused? I’ll hang up and listen.
"Why isn’t the AG’s office investigating this?
Well 9:43, at the moment ... there doesn't seem to be any reason why they should be involved.
A State Trooper was doing his best ( solo ) in a very dangerous situation.
But not to worry, at the rate national media is running with this, I'm sure the AG's Office
will be forced to get involved.
(Unless a new "outrage" occurs)
But slap a few buzz-words in a headline: Mississippi, White Cop/Black Victim .... and MSNBC & CNN
will rant for weeks.
Thank God that stout good old boy showed up to see fair play, or to back up the officer if necessary.
Here is the 1st, and basic question to answer: Why was this MHP officer stopping this guy on a county or city road with a 35 mph speed limit, when MHP only has jurisdiction to enforce traffic laws on the state highway system? MHP can pursue onto county and city roads for state highway violations, but if this did not begin on a state highway, then why was this MHP officer on this "country road" stopping people in the first place?
