Several Jackson residents complained on social media that JPD's 911 service refused to take their calls.
For the record, the Capitol Police and JPD have concurrent jurisdiction of the Capitol Complex. One shouldn't be too surprised at these reports. Mayor Lumumba and Chief Davis have been chomping at the bit to cast all responsibility and of course, blame over to the Capitol Police. Never have so few worked so hard in making excuses.

I heard a rumor that "blue flu" has struck the Crapitol City. Something about a large number of cops not showing up for work yesterday. Maybe this is what it was referring to.
His honor, the Mayor is just trying to keep it real. Really real.
I know the mayor and chief are pissed and want to blame everyone else, but that is no excuse for putting citizen’s lives in danger.
No one is coming to save you in Jackson. Plan and train accordingly if you don't want to move.
They have the capability of transfered a 9-1-1 call to another dispatch center. If someone dies because they (9-1-1 dispatchers) won't do their job, there may be criminal, and certainly civil, liability attached. Obviously this is coming from the top.
Lamumbalot and Chef certainly don’t believe in the old adage “you can delegate authority but not responsibility”.
Yet JPD is receiving from the FBI, ironic to say the least!
Who the hell calls the cops?
Imagine continuing to live and pay taxes in a city where they don’t care enough to transfer your 911 call to another police dept. At some point you have to start blaming the people and businesses (suckers) who pay for these non-existent city services that 99% of other cities in the state provide effortlessly and competently.
Leading the nation in homicides per capita, and can't respond to 911 calls? This is 100% on the shoulders of the Mayor and Chief of Police. What about the Real Time Crime Center, that just got an infusion of capital. WTF was that for...bigger monitors and the NFL network?
The people living in Jackson deserve what they are getting. They actually asked for it, voted in the clowns. They didn't want safe smooth streets. They got potholes. They didn't want regular trash pickups. They now do not have any trash pickups in some areas. They wanted to be a sanctuary city. They have crooks running from other cities to get to the city with crime. They didn't want so many criminals in jail. Now they do not even run their own jail. They wanted to be soft on crime. Now they are the murder capital of the U.S. They did not want white people living in Jackson. Now the only white people in Jackson are living behind locked gates.
The people have spoken. They got what they want. Now live with ity.
Next step, legislators create a special court for crimes committed under Capitol police jurisdiction. Bypass Hinds County judicial system. Next step after that, expand the Capitol policing district. Repeat steps until crime is under control and criminals are in parchment. Do not pass go, do not pass thru Raymond.
Capitol Police does not have a dispatch center.
Free the land, right?
There is a silver lining to this. It puts us another step closer to the state taking over control of Jackson. When the light bulb goes off in the mayors head, if that's possible, it will be too late.
Lumumba is a complete idiot. Couldn’t make it in law so he went to politics… no one in the private sector respects him and I live in nE Jackson and I practice at a local hospital and the mamnagement hates him
11:29. I live here. The state will *NEVER* take over the city. Why would it? All you people screaming it are stupid.
@10:47 but first the MSSC needs to hold the elected Judges in Hinds County that refuse to perform their Judicial duties accountable. The citizens of Hinds County are paying Some of the Judiciary to do nothing.
One step closer to the City of Lefleur's Bluff and we can get that fence down West St.
I called 911 a few months ago on 55 at north side to alert that a ladder was in fast lane after I saw it fall off a truck. It rang for ten minutes before I hung up. I timed it. What if I was being robbed. I was just trying to prevent other cars from having a wreck. It’s real. And it’s bad. Don’t live in Jackson but still have to go through it unfortunately.
If the state took over would any of the sorry jackson ladumba admins be fired?
NE Jackson needs to form its own city. I live in NE Jackson and I know flowood mayor would love noting more than to add the areas of NE Jackson to the tax Base. House full of multi millionaire dinners already represented by Michael guest republican and most kids in my daughters Jackson prep class live in Jackson plus my neighbors several of them live in Jackson and drive to flowood bc they are Ortho doctors at sports meds. So a lot of the businesses like these are owned by Jackson residents in flowood
To 10:40AM: Everyone in Jackson did not elect Lamumba. The city is 80% minority, although whether 80% can be a minority is mathematically doubtful. Most of the tax base did not vote for him. Not everyone can pick up and leave a paid-for house to start over somewhere else. Your words fall easily from your mouth (or keyboard) but show a remarkable lack of thought.
It's only a perception of un-answered 9-1-1 calls, right?
Can we ask what happened to the Jackson we loved and grew up in.
11:53 lives in Jackson and yet those asking for a state takeover are the stupid ones? Uh huh.
Da Mair seems to no longer enjoy bloviating in front a camera.
Right ?
2:51 PM, if the people of Jackson did not elect him how did he get to be mayor and elected a second time?
The kiddee mayor was elected because very few people bother to vote. Unfortunately, there is a segment of the City that would vote for a bologna sandwich if it was on the ballot. We would be better off with Oscar Mayer.
The state will NEVER takeover Jackson for exactly the same reasons Phil didn't want JPS. Kind of like the old saying, Better watch what you wish for you just might get it!!!
There will be no takeover. State law does not permit a municipality to declare bankruptcy or go into receivership.
True KF, but - state law can be changed.
2:51 Mbrookes:
18,000 Jackson citizens showed up and the majority of those re-elected Mayor Clown. That should tell you right there how terrible your city is. 18000 of 160000 citizens bothered to show up for an election of their city leader. Pathetic. Jackson is trash!!!
Baby Chok isn't creating chaos to drive away Jackson's tax base to hasten a takeover by the State, he's doing it to hasten a takeover by the Federal government. He knows a Republican Governor / legislature would NEVER run this City in a way that would promote a Kush nation (remember Big Chok?) The Federal government, on the other hand, that would be a dream come true for Baby Chok! Can you imagine the progressives' wet dream of taking over the second most "minority" city in the country? They couldn't think of enough ways to send money / promote this democrat utopia! You can bet Bennie's been laying the ground work on that for quite some time now (remember the RNA?)........
Think about it: if the feds took it over and allowed the current administration to run wild with new, unlimited funding, who would oppose those democrat plans? Just like everything else these days, all you'd have to do is threaten the word "racist," and all objections would cease. We see it happen. Every. Single. Day.
This is nothing new. They didn’t answer 911 three years ago.
Tate Reeves provided an opportunity to increase the Capital police patrol to “help” with the shortage of JPD officers. Once these opportunities opened the JPD numbers continued to decline. Capital police department needs their own dispatch service and that way calls can be routed directly to the communities they serve. Jackson Public Schools has been forced to report serious crimes to JPS campus enforcement since the disgraced former JPD Commander received a money bag combined position.
Ok 11:40, let's pump the brakes and proof our work.
Check the Mississippi Constitution, codes, and case law from the MSSC (for whatever it might be momentarily worth). Cities, "municipalities," are creatures of statute and law. What the Legislature giveth it can taketh away. See, e.g., Mississippi Code Title 21. Municipalities § 21-1-45. Procedure by qualified electors. If enough signatures could be gathered there are several avenues NE Jackson (or any other area) voters could use to kick the current City of Jackson to the crumbling curb. Some are more brute force, some are more elegant than others, some are more complicated than others, but there are codified laws, common law, and Constitutional provisions that could be cafeteria-planned and used to make big changes.
I'm a bit surprised there hasn't been more talk about it in certain circles. If the law-abiding and the actual tax base, i.e., tax PAYERS along with property and business owners, wanted to get serious about it they could rock Chuckweed's world, along with the worlds of all the current bullshit- and con-artists now (mal)administering the Tchity (that's Indian for "place of incompetent dumbfuckery") of Jackson.
4:23, your post shows that you either did not read what I said or your reading comprehension is way below grade level. Why won't
I think this is a childish, passive-aggressive reaction to the state intruding on Chockwe's perceived territory.
Of course, the best interests of the city and its people do not factor into that equation.
The mayor doesn’t care about crime, its results or causes. He doesn’t give one hoot about meeting basic government responsibilities or the damages caused by failing those responsibilities. Those aren’t opinions, they’re facts. At what point do the citizens move him out of office or move themselves out of there?
Yet JPD is receiving from the FBI, ironic to say the least! July 30, 2022 at 10:08 AM
Please translate. Thanks
If everyone would stop calling 911 for B.S reasons, they would have times to answer real emergency calls. Someone flipping you off is no emergency someone passing you is not reckless driving, someone knocked your trash over(no emergency), someone looking at you( no emergency), threatening phone calls ( change #,no emergency), I can go on
The tax paying people though out the State do not want to take over the City of Jackson. Why should their hard earned money bail out the sorry leadership of Jackson. If people do not like were they live they can move. I for one do not want the State government that I pay taxes to to spend my money in Jackson and that if what take over means.
7:20 may have valid points, but when I lived in NE Jxn (early 2000's) calling 911 multiple times to get an answer was the norm.
So they've had 20+ years to find a way to triage unnecessary calls.
Maybe they'll figure it out in another 20, but I was not dumb enough to stick around and pay exorbitant taxes while they workshopped ideas.
@9:53 - See, that's the problem.
Everyone says, "Not my problem," while the City of Jackson continues to pull down the entire Metro region, and subsequently, the entire State of Mississippi. Aren't we already paying? If you pay federal taxes, they're coming back to keep Jackson afloat. Where do you think the criminals go when the houses are empty in Jackson? Do you really believe that Clinton, Flowood, Ridgeland, and God-Forbid, Madison aren't targets? Do you think YOUR tax base can hire enough officers to stop it from coming into your backyard? Maybe you're in denial.
Politics and greed have made the capital city a declining cesspool for upwards of forty years. No one of means wants to step in and help. And, by "help," I don't mean, a legislature-led armed invasion. Actually help a formerly large city that now has no leadership and no tax base. Yep. It's nothing but crime and a failing infrastructure. These are Mississippians, people, no matter who they elected or what they've done to get where they are. We all seem to be too busy pointing fingers and tweeting political hashtags while claiming, "it doesn't matter."
Guess what? It does.
Also? The chatter about Northeast Jackson seceding is hysterical. Even if they could, have any of you actually BEEN to NE Jackson lately? Who is going to secede? The four neighborhoods desperate for gates and armed snipers? Because the remainder of NE Jackson is just like the rest of Jackson.
I'll organize a group of educated business professionals from the surrounding areas and have them meet Choke next week to discuss earnestly how he can fix this mess.
Since you seem to think Flowood, Ridgeland and Madison are obligated, you let me know when your Mayor is open to a Caucasian panel to advise him.
I think you'll find Choke does not want Mississippi "advice". He simply wants Mississippi money. With no strings attached of course. Because he has no plans to use to help Jackson.
Otherwise, do tell how the areas with no voice or vote should save yall because I agree that yall's inability to deal with crime is going to affect us sooner or later.
