Do you need a local guest speaker but don't know where to look? Fortunately there is a website just such things. Check out the list of Mississippi keynote speakers and their going rates.
Some examples are:
Ex-MSU Basketball Coach Benjamin Howland: $20,000 to $30,000
Brett Favre: $200,000 and up
Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba: Call
State Senator Chris McDaniel: Call
Cynthia Cooper: $20,000 to $30,000
Jerry Mitchell: Call
Lane Kiffin: $50,000 to $100,000

Greedy ass Brett Favre... $200,000.00 K and he can't afford to build his own volleyball joint.
For the record, Ben Howland isn't at State anymore
"CHOKWE ANTAR LUMUMBA -- Attorney, Activist & Politician"
Shows the priority he gives to being Mayor of Jackson.
Hilarious
Chokwe LuDUMBa is a horrible speaker. What a joke
I won’t mention names, but that’s not the actual rate if they really want the gig. That’s the rate if they don’t want the gig.
95% of the people on that list, i've never heard of them.
Wow, I'm in the wrong line of work. The cheapest ones were $5000. Do one or maybe two of those a week the year round and I could afford a house in Madison or maybe on the reservoir.
1.5 x $5000 x 52 = $390,000
Favre won't be getting a dime going forward...after his allocution.
If Lane is being paid $7,500,000 a year to coach at Ole Miss how does he have time to shill for $100,000 to talk about what? Getting fired at Oakland, USC & Alabama?
2:36 PM, I agree. I've gotten one of those guys for free to speak at my event. A saving of up to $10k!
Question, does this count as a gift for IRS purposes?
2:39, that’s because you troll around media sites that cater to one track minds and conspiracy nuts.
You would have to pay me to listen to the people on this list.
Who is this Isonhood woman? "I was once on a jury therefore I am a public speaker that people should pay big money to come hear me pontificate." What hubris!
I wouldn't pay a nickel to hear any of them.
Very very few of these people are talented orators. They aren't being paid for the speech, they're being paid to "enhance the atmosphere".
2:26 - Thank you for that news flash. I had no idea??????
I wouldn’t pay diddly shit to see any of these No good people!!! Fabre and Mumba!!!! Damn! No wonder we at the bottom of the barrel
"95% of the people on that list, i've never heard of them."
which means there must be something wrong with the list, right?
I wonder if Lumumba charges by the word. It would explain a lot.
Reading that list gave me my first laugh of the day. Thanx for that
How can I get paid NOT to hear any of these people speak?
Trevor Lawrence travels from Mississippi? Must be a mistake
There’s a really active, bitter person(s) lurking today. Geez. A handful of these folks are wildly successful and accomplished although I haven’t heard of many others. But you wouldn’t listen to any of them? Tells me plenty.
A Russian attack must be imminent. ReCapcha is going crazy again.
What is the MS connection for Trevor Lawrence??
You can pay Brett Favre with food stamps as well.
If you’ve ever heard Brett Favre give a speech, you’ll
agree that he should knock a couple of zeros off the
end of that price. Not an orator.
The Napiers are really doing well. They are now involved in lots of businesses. Good for them. Great people.
I heard Favre speak in a Hattiesburg dive bar one night.
Seems the topic was about a Jeep stuck in the mud somewhere around Petal.
His tirade was interesting ...(screaming about backhoes,& Chevy Truck winches).
Although funny, not worth 200K.
What does Sid Salter fetch? A chicken dinner?
And Tim Quinn will shamelessly get on TV and rehash what the newscasters say and not add a damn thing for free. What a douche
where are the Mannings? Listened to Archie's canned speech so often I could recite it. Same joke every time. I have never heard of these speakers, with some exceptions. Kingfish needs to get on the list.
Left off the list is Gerard Gibbert. He will show up and opine for 90 minutes just for the payout of hearing himself talk.
Then there's Russell Latino. He'll charge a few bucks and will pause after every 300 word paragraph just so his wisdom can soak in with the plebes.
Honest question, if an elected official (say, a MS legislator) were to speak at an event in his/her official capacity (representing his/her district, updating on legislative session, etc.) and get paid to do so, wouldn't that be an ethics violation? Accepting additional payment for his/her government job?
Can't believe Kiffen would fetch a higher price than Mike Leach.
I'm an OM alum but I can admit that Leach would be worth much more and probably the most entertaining on the list.
@8:58, While I don't know the answer to your question, it occurs to me such a speaking engagement might be done like the churches do it: the preacher makes an introduction and tells everybody the speaker is appearing for no fee but there's a plate in the foyer where the listeners can leave a "love offering."
"I'm an OM alum but I can admit that Leach would be worth much more and probably the most entertaining on the list".
Ole Miss Alum myself, and I agree 100%!
Everyone has an idea of what Lane might say, but Leach is an unknown factor. There is no way in the world to guess what he will discuss.
He might start out with an upcoming LSU/MSU game and finish with talking about a 1980's Rolling Stones concert in New Orleans.
I would choose Coach Leach as a first choice to speak anytime at my local Civic Club . . . any day.
If he wasn't available, I'd try to get Coach Ed Orgeron.
Either would keep everyone's attention.
