JJ came across a real classic on Youtube starring a young Paul Newman that you might enjoy watching if you have nothing else to do on a Saturday night.
CBS presented a live theatrical adaptation of a novel, Bang the Drum Slowly, in 1956 in a one-hour format. Newman only had a couple of movies under his belt but had already won the Golden Globe Award for Most Promising Male Newcomer for his work in The Silver Chalice.
Newman stars as a major league ace. The golden boy with the golden arm and the golden wife. All is gold but for his best friend, a rather mediocre catcher who soon discovers he has terminal cancer. The team wants to dump him but the pitcher fights for his friend.
Robert De Niro starred in a 1973 remake. Al Pacino said Deniro's version was his favorite movie (It's available for purchase or rent on Youtube.). The play is posted below.
