The ATF arrested Kent Newhouse on July 21 for manufacturing machine pistols at his home just a few feet away from where children play golf at the Country Club of Jackson.* Newhouse is the son of former Clarion-Ledger publisher John Newhouse.
ATF Special Agent Micah Snyder submitted an affidavit as part of an application for a complaint and arrest warrant against Kent Newhouse. The ATF suspected Newhouse of possessing firearms, auto-sears, and a 3D-printer capable of manufacturing auto-sears even though he was a convicted felon. An auto sear converts a semi-automatic firearm such as an AR-15 to a full-automatic weapon.
A confidential informant told the agent in April that Newhouse was trying to produce auto-sears for Glock pistols. The police got on the trail but had no luck until the CI reported on July 7 that Newhouse was trying to sell several auto-sears designed for "AR-style pistols and rifles." Newhouse allegedly produced four different videos that showed him shooting two different fully automatic machine guns and sent them to the CI.
The CI said Newhouse showed him a full automatic AR pistol, four drop-in auto sears for AR-style firearms, and two pistols. The two parties moved from talking to actually buying and selling. The affidavit states:
9. On Monday, July 11, 2022, the same confidential source advised your affiant that NEWHOUSE was willing to meet with the confidential source at his residence, 13 Glen Eagles Drive, Jackson, Mississippi 39211, on Wednesday, July 13, 2022, and sell the source the four auto-sears for $400.00. The confidential source stated NEWHOUSE was also willing to sell an AR-style machine gun in his possession for $2,000.00....
10. On Wednesday, July 13, 2022, your affiant conducted a monitored and controlled purchase of firearms from NEWHOUSE at his residence. During this purchase, NEWHOUSE sold the confidential source an AR-style pistol with an auto-seat· attached and two additional auto-sears for a total cost of$1,800.00. NEWHOUSE knowingly possessed these items prior to selling them to the confidential info1mant. These items were then recovered by the ATF. The AR-style pistol is identified as an Anderson Manufacturing pistol, model AM-15, serial number 21395261. The AR-style pistol was subsequently function-tested by the ATF and was preliminarily determined to be a machine gun.
CCJ residents said they have complained to the police about Newhouse for several years. Sketchy individuals visited the home at all hours of the night. To say neighbors lived in fear of Newhouse is an understatement.
Newhouse is a convicted felon. He pleaded guilty to two felony counts of selling controlled substances in Madison County in 2009.
Kent Newhouse is currently a resident at the Madison County jail. The booking sheet states there is no bond for the defendant. His mother, Brenda Newhouse, owns the Glenn Eagles Drive home that is in a small gated street adjacent to CCJ. She is divorced from John.
* The golf course behind the house across the street from the Newhouse home is not the "championship" golf course. It is a separate nine-hole course used by children of members.

What a dumb ass. If you possess any type of class III ATF products and don't have the proper paperwork, don't go bragging about it or showing it off. Even more, don't go selling it. They take that stuff pretty serious.
You can't fix stupid. This case could be used by the anti-2A crowd.
How in the heck will golfer's at JCC go fully automatic now? The course just became considerably more damgerous to play. Will ATF now provide security ou just allow JCC to fall prey to rendom acts of divoting and failure to properly mantain sand traps?
How many bystanders were caught in the crossfire and gunned down with equipment built and sold by this toolshed?
A niche market always exists for those who will take the chance. Glad he was caught before he equipped his fellow Jacksonians.
If the arrest was in Hinds County why are the taxpayers of Madison County footing the bill of incarceration?
What an idiot. He deserves everything he gets.
@9:36am - Probably has something to do with the ATF (Feds) being the arresting agency.
FTATF
@9:05am - What the hell are “class III ATF products?”
How are all of these convicts living in CCJ? There was the other incident where these folks were tied up and robbed, only to find out it was an inside job. The mastermind was also a convict living in CCJ.
Maybe he was rolling the dice hoping he'll get one of those nice Jackson judges to cut him a break like with other folks.
9:36 - Federal arrestees are held in Madison.
One way ticket to the Federal pen.
You'd get out of jail quicker for being a serial killer than owning an illegal machine gun.
Repeal the National Firearms Act!
@9:34, my guess would be... if you multiply by... now carry the 3... and then square that... ahh, yes: ZERO! We'd surely have heard about it had that happened. Keep living in fear, though.
$1800 for an AR pistol and three auto sears. Is that a good price (for the buyer) these days?
@ 10:20
As a gun lover, I agree with repealing PART of the NFA. This is suppressors and SBRs because I mean.......why are those items class 3 to begin with? That being said, full auto should ALWAYS REMAIN class 3, expensive, and hard to get. Can you imagine the horror of full auto weaponry being widely available?
Meanwhile there’s automatic machine gun fire all over the City of Jackson. The reason is because it is too easy to convert an AR15. a weapon of war, into a machine gun. The ATF needs to go ahead and ban the AR15 for being so easily converted. They should also limit clip capacity for handguns to 5 rounds. Make it a felony to possess a higher capacity clip. Nobody besides law enforcement needs more than 5 rounds.
When did the country club of Jackson open a pistol range?
@10:26am - I’m not up-to-date on the current black market value of unregistered auto sears, but at $25k a pop for legal, transferable auto sears, I’d say it’s a pretty good deal to get 3 for $1,800. Of course, this assumes you’re too dumb to use a coat hanger or 3D printer. Either way, you’re committing a felony or three, so might as well do it yourself on the cheap if you’re going to do it.
@10:13am - And the GCA and the Hughes Amendment. I want to be able to mail order an M134 and have it shipped straight to my door. MURICA
@10:26 It's a seller's market when they can't pass the background checks at the "gunshow loophole".
Glen Eagles Dr.? Oh that's a bad neighborhood! Not like CCJ which has never had a single element of crime.
Will someone please connect the dots for us mere plebs as to which old money clan he belongs to?
"is not the "championship" golf course. It is a separate nine-hole course used by children of members."
The members of the Country Club of Jackson have so many freeloading adult children that they actually need a separate nine-hole course to accommodate them?
Apparently, Jackson is rotten from top to bottom.
Does this mean that the Jackson gang-bangers are getting their fully automatic machine guns and machine pistols from white folks who live in gated subdivisions in NE Jackson? No wonder there's such a gun problem in Jackson.
Send this stupid SOB to a Federal Supermax!
There's no reason anyone needs a full auto weapon. For that matter, why are silencers/suppressors legal? And really who needs an assault weapon? I've been a gun owner all my life and I can't see the logic in anyone needing one.
10:39:
In the dark at 3am, trying to speed-load five more rounds while three bloodthirsty AR armed banditos, after kicking in your door, are in the house robbing/raping/strafing/slaughtering your family?
Maybe get a law passed only one five-bullet armed desperado at a time can break into a home or business?
It is just me -- and only me, of course -- who has no qualm with the more problematic demographic having more and tighter restrictions on firearm ownership and possession.
Also, "your affiant" has in his affidavit told only 5he truth. Right? Right?
There is a new rifle made by Sig Sauer that make automatic weapons obsolete.
Get you the NEW SIG Sauer’s new MCX-SPEAR!
It fires bullets with twice the kinetic energy of those from an AR-15.
“It’ll shoot through almost all of the bulletproof vests that are worn by law enforcement in the county right now" No special ammo needed."
The MCX-SPEAR is the civilian version of the U.S. Army’s NGSW-R (Next Generation Squad Weapon-Rifle), which was created with the express purpose of tearing through enemy body armor.
“This is a weapon that could defeat any body armor, any planned body armor that we know of in the future,” then-Army Chief of Staff Gen. Mark Milley told the Army Times in 2019. “This is a weapon that can go out at ranges that are unknown today.”
Yes, my friends you can buy one at any Gun dealer if they can keep them in stock. Good Luck finding one. I've called 7 Gun dealer & they all sell them, but they are on back order!
Get a pump shotgun, Krusatyr.
Glen Eagles Dr is not technically IN the Country Club of Jackson but does back up to it. He was obviously living with him Mom as he probably could not afford to live anywhere else. However, how did she not know what he was doing in her home?
@1:00 pm She owns it but does not live there....I think she lives in Virginia
Well the Feds May own that house now under Rico statue now?
@11:31am - FUDD detected!
@1:53 PM
Please explain to everyone why you need a weapon of war?
You can’t because nobody does. You just fantasize about being Rambo.
Yall see the kind of folks putting these out on the streets of Jackson!
@ 12 45
They put our new calibers all the time, 277 sig fury (prob) isn’t any more efficient than a .308. It’s just a hot round with ammo that’s prob 60 a box and hard to find BUT it likely won’t revolutionize the gun world as we know it.
@2:25pm - As long as the criminals have them, I need them.
9:30, the citizens of Madison County aren't footing the bill. The U.S. Marshal's Service is. The Marshal's Service pays to have cells available in certain jurisdictions.
It is my personal opinion that this fine young man has been dealing drugs from his mother's home on Glen Eagles for many years. Very suspect characters all hours of the day and night looking for his address many of whom appeared from outside the vehicle to be impaired. The authorities should expand their review of this young man. Blatant disregard of authority and the law.
This is my second attempt to post. This is my personal option. I believe that this fine young ex-con has for many years been dealing drugs from this location. Many visitors looking for his home at all hours of the day and night all of whom had a gate code to get in. Very sketchy individuals many of whom appeared to be impaired. Multiple complaints to law enforcement. An entire neighborhood was terrorized to some degree. His mother resided there for many years with him. You can speculate as to her knowledge of the activities. Hopefully, the federal authorities will consider all of the circumstances and deal with this bold young man decisively.
11:31 You don’t need a cell phone, bu I’ll bet you have one.
From what I can find when I do a search is that fully automatic weapons were used by non military people before fully automatic fire arms were used by the military. Why do people call it a weapon of war or military grade when the public was using them before the military? Maybe it would be better to call them civilian grade weapons or guns for the common person.
We need weapons of war cause jackson is a war zone! Every man for himself!
Why shouldn't a citizen using the firearms in a lawful manner be able to possess such weapons? The 2nd Amendment was not only created for self-defense.
