Hinds County spent $150,000 in ARPA funds to rehab Grove Park. Naturally a ceremony was held. Check out what Jackson Ward 4 Councilman Brian Grizzell did with the photo he posted on his Facebook page.
Mr. Archie also spent funds out of his regular Supervisor budget to establish a marker at the park.
Of course, Jackson being Jackson, someone couldn't even be bothered to yes, cut the grass, even for a ceremony where everyone showed up to congratulate themselves on spending our money.
Note to Grizzell: It's never a good idea to cut out the guy who wrote the check.

Those sumbitches could fuck up a ham sandwich.
Those are some well-fed individuals
Heavy weights!
I see Hattie holding that umbrella over David L., you right....Classy!
How much of that "free" money went into expenses? Coordinating meetings at a resort? Meals?
Was this a catered affair?
no one uses that park. the locals around it throw trash all over the ground, they don't cut the grass, they destroy doors and windows on the buildings there, the bathrooms are in horrible disrepair. Typical.
Don't Brain Grizzell live right next to the park and couldn't get the grass cut. The man says he a Doctor but can't influence no one to cut the grass. Grizzell is one and done. He probably wass not invited.
Here’s a factoid. They don’t have any mowers they don’t have greens cutting equipment. This is another boondoggle. That money should’ve been spent on something more productive like bridges and there are plenty of them out.
They all grinning like a mule eatin’ yellow-jacket wasps…er, wawsts
More tax payer money to be pissed away on a facility no one uses that won’t be maintained. Meanwhile, citizens can’t get drinkable water, raw sewage flows over streets and sidewalks, and no one answers when you call 911.
If you want an illustration of failure, use these photos. Bunch of absorbed idiots.
I guess they couldn’t find anybody to proofread the sign first.
I would say they are all grinning like a shit eating dog, right? But they did their civic duty by fixin' up an area where Chowke's dope boys take care of business, right?
Will Bobcat get the grass cutting contract ?
So what was done with the 150k? Can we see the improvements?
@12:40 Is there an error in the sign? I'm not seeing it.
Northeast Jackson Baseball Association could use some of that money to repair the road and parking lot. And more people use that facility in one night than use Grove Park in a year.
Would have been nice if they had saved some of them there ribs for others to have!
Water not drinkable. Streets are. Ot drivable. Crime running rampet.not of enough police .. but hey let's waste money on a park sign
NEJ Baseball is state owned land
I remember Grove Park. It WAS great. Most of the bloggers here cannot relate to unchecked black nostalgia. That's all this is. Older Black people remember those glory days when Grove Park was the center of a vibrant community with family oriented activities taking place every day. But at that time the entire community was different. The people were different. The area was not dominated by thugs and drug dealers. Somehow people hope that a few thousand dollars might be the magic that jumpstarts a community they deserted years ago and which no longer supports "family oriented" activities. Nostalgia and charitable gestures of support make you feel good about the "good ole days" but it takes a hell of a lot more to change the people. I understand how they feel, but that little money will make no difference. It would take much, much, more and we don't have it.
I bet that poorly designed sign cost at least $45,000, wink, wink, nudge, nudge...
Reminds me of the park on Sherman in Vicksburg. They redid it and I’ve never seen anyone there and it’s usually overgrown.
Kick 'em back, kick 'em back, waaaay back.
Here is an excerpt from my comment to the earlier post about Grove Park from July 7:
"Here's a hypothesis - and this is not sarcastic in any way: Those members of the city government who are in favor of renovating and reopening Grove Park are very likely thinking of the plaque that will be placed on the wall that will have their names engraved on it when the work is done. And that is more important to them than safe drinking water, effective police protection or reliable trash pickup. This is the mindset that you have to understand in order to realize what has happened to the city of Jackson."
...and here you go. These politicians absolutely LIVE FOR THIS SH#T!
Drinkable water? Passable streets? Reliable garbage pickup? Safe to go out at night in Jackson? All that be damned -- Let's spend $150K of taxapayer money for a photo op! Hell, let's vote to spend another $250K...$300K...$500K of taxpayer money to reno the whole park and get our name on a plaque!
3:12, I guess that's the same nostalgia that fed the Farish Street Fantasy. Millions and millions of taxpayer dollars... gone. No discernible impact, no "revitalization".
An older coworker reminisced about such nostalgia. He said black families in Mississippi were once the tightest knit families anywhere and community really meant something. He said it started falling apart when social programs were created that punished having the father in the home.
Strong families and strong communities created such places.
A wad of cash won't achieve a thing now that they're gone.
Anyone remember when Grove Park had 20-21 year olds playing Babe Ruth games (ages 16-17) all over the state?
The manager drove them to games in his fancy RV.
I forgot how someone discovered they were seriously overage.
Some kids got together and played ball, so what.
Looks Like Yazoo City parks only without the four wheeler tracks
You all ain't seen nothing until you see Supervisor Griffing taking credik for his Madison County Lake that will be nothing but drug and acting up. Wait for the announcment and pictures. Madison is corrupted just like Hines county.
Spent $150,000 of American Recovery Act money on a park? And Archie paid SDAH for the sign out of his Hinds County slush fund?
