Election Night is Here!

 - Trump improves on 2016 performance in Mississippi

- CHS demolishes Espy in rematch

- Griffis returns to Supreme Court

- Medical marijuana, new state flag pass overwhelmlingly

We are going to live-blog the election results tonight.  Make all election night comments on this post. Regardless of who wins, one gets the feeling 2020 is not done with us just yet.

If the Kingfish was a betting man tonight, he would bet on Biden to win.  Most of the polls have showed Biden ahead.  Some tightening always happens.   Yes, yours truly reads the conservative websites and is aware of the "yeah but" arguments out there.  I fell for that crap in 2012.  The polls got it right in 2012.  They missed in 2016 but did a better job in 2018.  If Biden loses, it will be because his side went way too far.  Those boards going up tonight aren't because the business owners are scared of Trump supporters.

Will the Republicans keep the Senate? That is the big question for tonight.  Meechigan probably holds the key to the whole thing tonight.  If James upsets the incumbent, that will be a good night for Trump.  Forget the nutjob wannabe kidnappers.  The Governor went way too far with her pandemic shutdowns.  The question is whether the backlash is enough to carry James and Trump in that state.

The Kingfish predicts I65 will win while Justice Kenny Griffis returns to the Mississippi Supreme Court.  Cindy Lou beats Alphonse Espy by 8 points.

8:00 PM.

That didn't take long.  Not even 20 minutes passed before the media called Mississippi for Trump.

First big battle ground state to look at is Florida.  90% of the vote is counted and Trump leads 51.1% to 48%.  He is up by nearly 300,000 votes.  It looks like Florida will go for the President.  The second big battleground state is North Carolina.  Biden has a slight lead of 152,000 votes, 51-48% with 75% of the vote counted.

The votes are just starting to be reported on Mississippi races.  Medical marijuana and Cindy Hyde-Smith hold commanding leads but few votes are counted.

8:15 PM

Trump grabs Florida.  Biden's lead shrinks to 139,000 votes in the Tar Hell state.  However, Ohio is not looking so good for Trump.

5% of vote counted in Mississippi.  Cindy Lou leads Alphonse 56-42. Medical marijuana has 70% of the vote.  The new state flag has 72% of the vote.

8:30 PM

10% of the vote is in and Cindy Lou leads 53-45. Trump leads 57-41 in Mississippi.

For a little different style of coverage, check out the Daily Wire website.  They are covering the election returns in the old-fashioned way, literally.  The cigars, bourbon, and of course, old-fashioneds are plentiful on the set.   There ya go.  Drinking rye myself.

North Carolina tightens with 80% of the vote counted.  Biden's lead is now less than 90,000 votes.  Biden continues to lead in Ohio, 51.1 to 47.6, a margin of 133,000 votes.

8:45 PM

13% of the vote counted in Mississippi.  Cindy Lou leads 55-43.  Medical marijuana continues to grab 70% of the vote as does the new state flag.

Ohio is almost a dead heat. Biden up 49.5 to 49.2, a margin of only 13,000 votes.

 9:00 PM

23% of the Mississippi vote is counted and Trump leads Biden 58-41.  CHS leads Espy 54-45. Med Mary Jane support fell to only 69%.

North Carolina tightens.  I have a feeling that word will be overused tonight but there are limits to a thesaurus on election night. Biden leads 49.7 to 49.1.  The margin is right under 30,000 votes.

Trump takes lead in Ohio, 50.5 to 48.1.  Trump's lead is slightly over 2,000 votes.  That is a huge swing from just a few minutes ago.

9:20 PM

30% of the vote is counted in Mississippi and Trump leads Biden 59-41.  CHS continues to dominate Mike Espy, 56-42.  Medical marijuana and the new state flag continue to get around 70% of the vote.

Trump just extended the lead in Ohio to 177,482 votes, 51.2 to 47.4 with 72% of the vote counted.  Damn.  British betting markets just flipped to Trump.

Whoa.  Trump takes lead in North Carolina with 88% of the vote counted, 49.6 to 49.2. His margin is a little more than 25,000 votes.   Watch Carterete County.

9:30 PM

Over a third of the way in Mississippi with 37% of the vote counted.   Trump leads 59-39%.  Cindy's lead remains the same while the amendments continue to hover around 70% support.

Trump is pouring it on in Ohio, 51.8 to 46.8.  The margin is over 413,000 votes.  74% of the vote is counted.  His lead in the Tar Heel state grows as well to 39,311 votes with 89% of the vote counted.  49.8 to 49.

Quaker State.  30% of the vote is counted and Trump leads 53 to 45.  The margin is 164,000 votes.

9:50 PM

Nearly half of the vote is now in in Mississippi.  Trump leads 61-39.  Some GOP counties must have come in because CHS leads Espy 57-41.  The amendments are running around 70%.

North Carolina continues to swing to Trump. 93% of the vote is in and Trump leads 49.9 to 48.9 with a 54,000 vote margin.

Pennsylvania: Trump, 52.4-44.4.  Margin: 227,000. 93% counted.  Whoa.  Philly stopped counting votes for the night.  Reminds one of Jefferson Parish.

Ohio: 82% counted. Trump 52.7-45.9.  Margin: 349,322.

Meechigan: 38% counted. Trump: 54.7-43.5.  margin: 240,122.

Virginia: 56% counted, Trump: 52.2 - 46.  Margin: 162,802 . Press called for Biden.

 10:15 PM

Trump leads Biden in Mississippi, 61-38.  60% vote is counted. CHS leads Espy 57-41.  The amendments are garnering around 70% support.  Mississippi is going to get some medical marijuana and a new state flag while ditching its own electoral college for the Governor's race.

North Carolina: Trump leads 50-48.7, a 73,000 vote margin.  95% of the vote is counted.

Ohio: 85% counted. Trump leads 53.1 - 45.5.  Margin: 407,116 votes. The lead grows.

Meechigan: Trump leads 54.6 -43.5 with 41% counted.  Margin: 258,510.

Quaker State: 42% counted, Trump leads 56.6-42.  Margin: 428,052.

Arizona: 75% counted, Biden leads 53.6-45.  Margin: 206,087

Wisconsin: 45% counted, Trump leads 50.7-47.6.  Margin: 50,645

 11:00 PM

Now the real fun starts. 72% of the Mississippi vote is counted.  Trump leads 61-37 and is outperforming his 2016 victory against Hillary Clinton in the Magnolia State.  CHS demolishes Espy 58-40. Nearly half of the vote is counted in the Mississippi Supreme Court race and Kenny Griffis leads Latrice Westbrook 55-45.  The margin is 10,000 votes.

Ohio is called for Trump.  He leads Biden 53-45 with 88% of the vote counted.

Quaker State: 50% counted.  Trump leads 56.5 to 42.1.  The margin is 519,980 votes.

Meechigan: 47% counted. Trump leads 54.6 to 43.6.  Margin: 292,704.  The Senate race is turning into an upset. West Point grad James leads Peters 55-43.

Wisconsin: Trump leads 51.5 -46.5.  61% of vote is counted. Margin: 105,697

Arizona: Fox called state for Biden.  Upset.

12:10 AM

83% of the vote is counted in Mississippi.  Read and weep.

Trump leads Biden 61-49.  CHS clobbers Espy 57-41.  The 65's got 68% of the vote while 65 got 74%.  The flag amendment got 70%.  Griffis leads 56-43 with 64% of the vote counted. Now on to the Presidential election.

Meechigan: 58% of the vote counted. Trump leads 53.4 to 44.8.  Margin: 280, 979

Wisconsin: 72% is in. Trump leads 51.4 to 46.9.  Margin: 114,785

Pennsylvania: 64% counted. Trump leads: 56.6 to 42. Margin: 668,816

North Carolina: 95% counted, Trump leads: 50.1 to 48.7. Margin: 76,737

Rhode Island (Yeah, I know): 63% counted, Biden leads by all of 2,000 votes.

Gawgia: 85% counted. Trump leads 52.1 to 46.7.  Margin: 236,174

Before the votes are counted. Could Espy really win. Last year Delbert got 60% of the vote and Tater only got 52%. So 8% of Delberts vote voted for Jim Hood who's every bit as liberal as Espy. There's a percentage that will generally vote conservative but turn and vote liberal.

Anonymous said...

God, can you imagine the Senate flipping because Mississippi conservatives shot the bird at Granny Clampett?

Anonymous said...

Espy had to lie to get the nomination. His history of unethical corruption hasn’t been forgotten. He will not win.

Anonymous said...

In for the shitshow.

Mitch McConnell wins.
Mississippi goes Trump again.
Florida holding his own in Florida.
Three good signs.

Bryant retains his millions in PAC money. 65 passes despite Bryant's lobbying efforts. Big pharma should demand a refund.

Anonymous said...

Initiative 65 wins with 70% in favor. GOP goes all in with legal maneuvers to defeat the will of 70% of the electorate, which is vastly majority conservative. Tate in jeopardy in 2023. Mary's face melts off.

Anonymous said...

Based on early numbers, 65 passes. The 65 over 65a vote exceeds the yes/no part. That means even the people against MM voted 65 over 65a. That is nothing but a bird finger to our stupid legislature.

Anonymous said...

With the same vote count (over 80% counted), Fox has NC a 93% probability of a Biden win, while the NY Times has NC a 94% probability of a Trump win.

Anonymous said...

In 2023 the people needs to do a clean sweep of our stupid legislature.
1) Force a flag down our thoart!
2) Added a confusing vote on the ballot.
3) F*** the red neck legislature!

Anonymous said...

Well I guess the “non stoners” have spoken Tate.

Kingfish said...

yeah, well, 70% of the people are voting for that new flag.

Anonymous said...

Hang on to the Senate. That's all the really matters. And screw Tate and Phil and our legislature.

Anonymous said...

There's a significant gap in the votes for Trump and the votes for Granny. But at least our Senate seat didn't flip. If there was more cushion in the Senate, I would have voted for Espy like a lot of other protesting conservatives.

We about to get Med Mary!

Apparently, the cops got 'ole Pheeel himself to post on Facebook his editorial about the horrible dangers of Mary Jane the Great Gateway Drug. Never mind the Bevy of Beverages that will kill a liver (and you on the highway) and is extremely addictive. People like me can be helped today by alleviating pain naturally with medically-prescribed pills that are THC-based. Thanks to drug addicts and greedy doctors, other drugs are no longer available. There are plenty of reasons for Mississippi to join the ranks of States that allow access to cannabis whether it be dispensed medically or recreationally. Otherwise, take away the beer, the whiskey and the cigarettes. Police look at marijuana as an easy tool for a bust and there are too many people locked up with ruined lives over a small amount of grass. Cocaine, heroin, unprescribed drugs, absolutely. Treat these people differently. Find the source and take them off the streets. And if someone is over-served alcohol and then someone gets hurt...link them with the crime. Same for someone who is driving a vehicle stoned. Treat us as adults and make the penalties equivalent with the crime. But for those of us who choose to behave as adults, let us be. And for those of us who face intense pain, give us the natural pain relief.

@10:41 Is there anywhere in Madison proper that isn't inside the banned distance from a church or school? I think there are entire town in MS that can't have a dispensary "in town" due to the distancing rules.

If Trump wins tonight or this week, it’ll be a great thing for the county. Not because of many of the normal metrics we might use to choose a leader, but because it will me a slap in the face for the Democrats and will likely awaken the party to move towards the center if they expect to win moving forward. The dems need to push back hard against the extreme left.

Watching Mississippi (Democrats) Today self-immolate for Espy has been a hoot.

~62% reporting, Espy barely over 40% of the vote and the indentured reporter over at the C-L exclaims that Espy "had gained momentum in recent weeks". You just can't make this stuff up.

I'm glad the legislature took one one the chin regarding medical marijuana. A marijuana bill would have never gotten out of committee regardless of what supertalk said. And if it had it would have been screwed up.

Anonymous said...

Dear God let it be officially over soon.

Anonymous said...

Screw Tate, Phil, Mary, the legislature and this corrupt political system we have in Mississippi. I expect them to press on in their fight despite 70% of the state disagreeing with their MM stance. That big pharma money must be mighty addictive for them to continue this sham moralism.

Well, the election here turned out much like I figured it would. Progressives across the country hoped the high Election Day turnout would still favor Democrats, when it was actually the opposite. I’m happy that it’s all over, if only so that I don’t have to see another campaign ad with Senator Granny Clampett. Bless her heart, she can go crawl back to the rock she’s been hiding under the last 2 years for the next six. Meanwhile, the MSGOP is already looking for the white guy in their ranks who can primary her in 2026.

BTW, Biden will be our President come January 2021.

All I am saying is two months ago espy trailed by 1% and lost by 14%. Obama got involved running commercials for Espy. Also dems under performed in Florida when Obama heavily campaigned. Is it safe to say dems will be like Hey Obama dont call us we will call you in the future. He seemed to energize Republicans much more then Dems in elections.

Mississippi has once again proven to be the dumbest state in the Union. In addition to putting out the welcome mat to weed and embracing drug-using losers with open arms, they have adopted a stupid and ugly flag.

But, from when we have all been told by idiots like Hosemann, Ladd, and Gunn, not that these things ate in place, the jobs and companies will come running to this progress state with our top-both universities and highly educated population

Hahahaha. You guys are suckers.

Congratulations, proponents of 65. Though the legislature has FAILED miseraby to do anything with medical marijuana the past 20 times they've had the ability, you all have screwed your state and more importantly your local communities. Zero tax $$ to be diverted (unlike in other states), sweeping protections for a business in the STATE CONSTITUTION (absoultely unheard of AND more lenient than any other state's MM laws). Though you claim this is for "medicinal purposes" and you "must have a script" I guarantee you many that do NOT need MM for "medicinal purposes" will indeed have a coveted card. I just hope all you card holders aren't looking to purchase firearms with your card and I pray that you are never pulled over with a gun in your car while you have an active MM card. :) Congrats FOOLS! Joel Bomgar gotcha!! and got richer in the process :)

To those claiming MIssissippi’s electorate has “screwed itself” by passing I65 because it won’t be taxed, there’s nothing stopping the legislature from throwing in the towel on this issue, making it recreational and taxing the hell out of it. There’s no question recreational dope could bring tons of tax dollars into the State’s coffers which would go along way if the a significant portion of the collected weed tax is earmarked for education like it is in Colorado.

Anonymous said...

I agree with 11:32. But, don't blame the people. This falls directly on the legislature. Many fingers to point at but I will leave it at that.

We are witnessing democracy in action. Stop all this silly counting and delay. Let the courts finally decide. Go Trump!

Anonymous said...

@2:22 how exactly is refusing to count legally-cast ballots “democracy in action?” If a ballot complies with the law of the state in which it was cast, not counting it is the most undemocratic thing you could possibly do.

I don’t know about you, but I was always taught, and teach my kids, that patience is a virtue. And they’ve learned that bitching and moaning about how long something is taking or demanding it be done now only prolongs the wait. We don’t put up with this shit from our kids, why do we have to put up with it from our president?

Now that all the ballots have been cast, what’s the deal with the COVID stimulus money Trump used to extort votes from people trying to maintain their status quo while politicians fight over whether the virus is real and how it should be handled? They don’t get in a hurry when we need something, so we shouldn’t be in a hurry to give them something they want. Life is a two-way street and, unfortunately, those in power need to be reminded of that at every turn.

Anonymous said...

It is time for us to come together around President Elect Biden and demand Trump's extrication from the White House so that he can't do anymore damage to this nation.

"One main qualifier is that those receiving medical marijuana cards in Mississippi have to be suffering from one of 22 "debilitating medical conditions" and have their status certified by a physician." In using the term debilitating does that mean unable to hold employment? Wonder what happens to people employed that qualify for MM and have to undergo pee testing to hold a job? Thinking of cops, FF's, pilots, MD's, RN's etc. These folks may not hold a job, but then again. Never had the chance to read the whole bill/law.

Well now let's think about this..

The State has a MONOPOLY on alcohol distribution and can't get that right!

-Casino gambling TAX MONEY managed by the legislature would solve all of MS's education woes and have us driving on streets of gold

- MS lottery, managed by the legislature would build bridges and roads(you remember) those already built by the casino money

My mantra going forward is if they hold a public office and have for some time...VOTE THEM OUT!

What happened to the Tobacco Money?...From PBS

Moore hired Dick Scruggs, a friend from Ole Mississippi Law School, to research and develop the case.
The two of them, nicknamed Scro and Mo, then took their idea on the road and convinced other Attorneys Generals.

Where's the BP Money?

Mike Moore: Right. I don't care one whit about any money in this case. Not one whit whatsoever about it.
Bill Whitaker: Nobody's gonna believe that the attorneys are not going to make any money.
Mike Moore: No, no, no. No, no, and I'm not saying that. I was talking about-- all I can speak for is me.
Bill Whitaker: You made money off tobacco.
Mike Moore: Nope, not a penny.
That's because for all the years of the tobacco litigation & many years after, Moore was working for a modest state salary as Mississippi attorney general.
Bill Whitaker: You made money off of BP spill.
Mike Moore: I made some money on helping resolve the case, yeah.

Where's the Opioid Money?

Attorney General Jim Hood in December sued three distribution companies — Cardinal Health, McKesson Corp. and Amerisource Bergen Corp. — claiming they failed to monitor and flag suspicious orders of opioids that flowed into certain Mississippi counties in recent years. May 8, 2019

Mike Moore 60 Minutes...Opioid Lawsuits..(The Money is in Distributors, not the Manufacturer)

Mike Moore: The distributors are saying things like, "We're just truck drivers. We didn't know where the pills went." Of course, they did. There's a Controlled Substance Act. Controlled Substance Act. You're supposed to control these pills. And when you don't, you have a responsibility for it. It-- it's real simple.

It's also simple why Moore is going after the biggest players in drug distribution: because they have much deeper pockets than the manufacturers. Purdue Pharma, for example, had less than $2 billion in revenue in 2017. Distributor McKesson, by contrast, had $208 billion in revenue.

Moore...“Well, you can’t sue the federal government, you can’t sue all the individuals for taking the drugs. Trying to sue all the doctors in the country wouldn’t work very well, so what I say is if there’s 100% fault out there amongst many, many players, at least go to the people who made the billions of dollars on this.”

September 2019, Purdue Pharma filed for bankruptcy after several cities sued the company for its role in creating the opioid crisis. (Pardue is privately owned with the Sackler family worth an estimated 13 Billion.)

“We will bring this industry to their knees right here in Mississippi, and I’m proud of that,” said Mike Moore.

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/opioid-crisis-attorney-mike-moore-takes-on-manufacturers-60-minutes-2019-08-26/

In Mike Moore's 1st 60 Minutes interview, he gave a hint of his next target...Big Sugar because Soft Drinks cause health problems.

Kentucky law professor Richard Ausness said...Trial attorneys, he says, stand to make millions off pooling their resources ...

“Other lawsuits of this nature might be brought against other manufacturers,” Ausness said. “I saw something recently about, ‘We ought to sue Big Sugar — you know, sugar does all sorts of bad things for people.’ So, I don’t see any end in sight. I mean, if it works for the plaintiffs, if they get something out of it & of course the trial lawyers are doing pretty well, too, why stop?”

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
