Testing is going to be very important going forward. People who have frequent contact with the public, like store checkout clerks, restaurant servers, pharmacists, and healthcare workers, should all be tested weekly until the transmission rate drops to a low level or a vaccine is developed. The question is whether we can get enough of those tests to make a difference. Of course we have to get past this immediate crisis for the next six weeks or so first.
COVID-19 Has Attacked Our Revenues. You can help. Please Support the JFP's Reporters and Staff. Even $2 or more!
Y'all don't try heading to Mexico with your yard man to escape. Mexico (500 confirmed cases) has protesters shutting down boarder crossings to halt illegal immigrants from the U.S. (65,000 confirmed cases).
How will the Governor’s list of “essential “ businesses affect MIssissippians getting unemployment insurance for time missed already and assistance later from the federal emergency bills? Are there protections for Mississippians ordered back to work by their essential employers who think they’ve been exposed or are feeling ill but haven’t enough aid sick days? Can they be fired if their family is sick but they aren’t ? Can mayors and health officials in “ hot spots” still act independently to order shut downs or does this supersede their authority?
Shouldn’t essential businesses and offices restrict elevators to far less than 10?
I don’t understand why it’s being dictator to issue preventative orders but not dictatorial to rescind preventive measures .
There are things MUCH more worthy of contributions than the Jackson Free Press. Stop spamming!
There’s a petition going around to force a recall of Tate.

Where can a person donate to Tater's frontage road?
Unemployment benefits ?
Good luck if someone even answers the damn phone at that agency.
And if they do, many are rude as hell !
Moreover, forget about their 'on line' services.
That's even worse.
Before I entered the medical field, I worked for Employment Security.
It was a great agency, until Haley Barbour ruined it.
( And I even voted for the Yazoo Fat Man)
I noticed in the recent news segments, the same idiots from that era remain in charge.
My point is, don't expect unemployment benefits anytime soon.
And I swear I'm not trying to degrade MDES.
All you anti-socialists are returning your checks, right?
All you gotta do these days is yell and scream and demand everybody do something like little Mario Cuomo in New York and you get praised. Welcome to our world.
Anyone on this blog have first hand knowledge of a covid-19 death?
Anyone have first hand knowledge of a certified covid-19 diagnosis?
No second hand commenters please.
Just thinking out loud here, but y'all elected him and his predecessors, and on a local scale, well, same thing. Maybe a little more thought on the next go-round....naw, shit, VOTE MSGOP or VOTE DEM! Right? Best of luck to those who made their beds...
@10:34 PM - Cuomo doesn' t "yell and scream" - have you even watched his daily briefings? Obviously not. In the meantime, Tate Reeves has only reinforced how backward Mississippi GOP is - former Mississippian living in NYC - we may be the epicenter but I thank God we have intelligent leaders.
8:56 - It was not Haley Barbour that ruined that agency. The ruination started under Finch and got really ramped up under Mabus. At one time it was a service organization with goals, expectations, pride in accomplishment and spirit. Then it morphed into a cemetery led by vindictive cretins.
Dang 8:56, how many times have you been laid off?
2020 Coumo = 2005 Ray Nagin
History books will reflect somebody else as standing up to be the leader in a time of need.
" What Me Worry" folks,
Please compare population sizes in the affected States and ask yourselves why a population with less density would have nearly as many deaths with fewer number of tests per 1000 people. For the truly dumb, think Louisiana.
Also, for the naysayers who make nonsense comparisons with this virus and run of the mill flu, check the numbers of death in 1 month of regular flu season and this one. You seem to think this flu season is over before we even have a full season to measure. Again, for the lame brains, this flu existed here before we started measuring and those who survived or died but weren't tested aren't in the count.
And, the Spanish flu originated in Kansas. That was not known until long after the pandemic. We do not know if other wildlife also brought the flu to countries.135 animal species in China have tested positive for the virus. Some are birds and other migratory animals. Again, for the thoughtless, China has looked, other countries have not as yet.
What you don't know and don't know you don't know will kill you.
... the Spanish flu originated in Kansas.
A hypothesis. Other hypotheses pinpoint Britain, France and, surprise, China as potential ground zeros.
What you don't know and don't know you don't know but anonymously boast of knowing here at JJ won't kill you but also won't go unchallenged.
You seem to think you're superior to others here. You aren't.

You are very right !
I worked there during both administrations.
Mabus was bad, But Barbour was much worse.
For the most part, Gov. Fordice left us alone and every thing was fine.
If you remember, the first thing Barbour did was to hoodwink the legislature into abolishing the long standing MESC and recreate the agency as the new MDES (under his control).
Then, Barbour immediately forced out the veteran executives and replaced them with his political cronies.
I could write a book about the damage that was done with that decision.
Moreover, the new idiots were being warned by the remaining veterans as late as 2014 to:
QUIT CHANGING EVERY THING THAT WORKS !
Their Response: ( Veteran employees were not being "New Team Players" ).
Now look at what's going on.
That agency can't even answer a phone call or email.
When this is over, I hope Gov. Reeves cleans house within the MDES
"upper" administration.
