Only about 15% increase. Hope this starts a trend.
Second death = more serious every day.
Be careful folks. This will get worse (more badder) before it begins to improve. Sadly, we will see many more cases and deaths before we see anything good happening.
Protect yourself and your family. Wash your hands, don't touch your face and stay away from other people if you can and as far as you can.
That's 57 new cases. Things have been fairly stable the last five days. I hope that's a good sign that social distancing is working to keep the random infection from spreading to many others. However, all it takes is a couple of irresponsible individuals to pass it on at a party to kick start the cycle.
We need widespread availability of rapid tests to identify carriers quickly and isolate them. We can't continue to depend on only testing those that are already sick with serious symptoms, anyone with a fever and/or cough should be tested.
Literal nothing burger, you chicken littles.
@10:36 AM - a couple of days ago I would have disagreed with you, but you are correct. Everyone needs to be tested, as this "separates the herd."
Be safe everyone!
Interesting, it appears that the mortality rate will rise instead of the intended results. It’ll trend as expected when churches and schools reopen.
I need to get a haircut.
Our biggest danger is down south. We should have the National Guard building a wall between us and Louisiana and in the meantime close the border.
At least close I-10, I-12 and Lake Ponch Causeway. Easy to quarantine NO and its the fastest rate in the country.
People are going to be scared sh*tless, and wait until they’re on the deathbeds before getting tested now.
Unpopular Opinion: Stimulus Checks are a waste of resources, and no I’m not a Democrat or Republican for that matter.
It's a real shame Tate Reeves kneecapped municipal efforts to flatten the curve by enacting that executive order that's basically made Mississippi's entire business community "essential" and therefore exempt from the 10 person social distancing.
Then he has the gall to tweet out this morning a call for business to continue to allow folks to work from home and to use reduced staff when possible.
Actions speak louder than words, and Tate's actions tell us he's more interested in making money, paving his driveway, and going on European vacations during a f*cking pandemic than he is in keeping my grandparents alive.
The sky-is-falling trolls need actual deaths to buttress their alarmist doomsday predictions and attacks on Trump, Reeves, conservatives and Republicans in general. Pathetic.
Okay, so we are up to 377 cases from yesterday’s 320. Doesn’t sound too bad, but before we all start sighing with relief, think about this:
On 3/24/2020 there were a total of 320 cases in Mississippi. The total number of tests run to date were 1,872.
On 3/25/2020 there was an increase in only 57 cases. The total of tests run to date are 1,943. Only 71 tests, SEVENTY-ONE tests, were run on 3/24. 80% of which tested positive.
Now, just throwing around the number 80% positive can be dangerous and misleading, so only read into that what it is: yesterday saw an 80% positive test rate from a small sample. But, saying there were only 57 new cases can also be misleading and dangerous. We only sampled a small number of individuals.
I don’t put this all out there to say we should be panicking and shutting down, I’m just saying that now isn’t the time to decide it’s moving past us and we are good to go.
At this rate, believe me, it will get worse. Bigly.
@10:36 As I have said before, testing ability is not unlimited. From what I am told, MS is able to process 4k tests a day.
Current rate of cases (of those tested) .000125%. Current Death rate of those tested positive .0053%. Being a rural state really helps. Question remains how many not tested have the virus. Remain positive but keep up the restrictions until the number of new positive cases drops to near zero.
A lot of these new cases were transmitted before people started taking this seriously. A lot of people still aren't, but two weeks ago nobody took it seriously. And it takes 4-5 days to get test results back, if you can find one. So there is a HUGE lag between cases transmitted and cases diagnosed. That is what you are seeing in NYC. Panic is hitting the streets, but these folks got sick long before the city got serious. In two weeks, new cases will fall off a cliff.
Wishful thinking 11:24, not saying there's something wrong with that, it just is.
Bill need paying, mouths need feeding, and nothing in this world is free. We need to get back to work. Millions of other reasons to worry, other than this virus.
There are some not so bright folks contributing to this blog. COVID-19 antigen testing (which we have now) is a lousy test. (It is also in short supply). the test is positive in maybe 6-7 out of every ten people proven to have the virus. (This means you cannot rely upon a "negative" result. You may still have it but the sampling performed was not adequate.)
The tests that are needed (and they are coming but not fast enough) are antibody tests. They are a blood test (even a finger stick). The early antibody (IgM) can become positive as early as 1-5 day after infection. This is the test that we need. If you are well and you have an antibody (IgG or IgM), you are probably immune and can continue to work. Indeed, patients are better triaged with this test than the infectious agent detection tests we have now. One more reason why the "Test and screen NOW" crowd (with the current test) are insane.
Almost nobody is really getting the exponential nature of the infection. If you don't take steps NOW, things will gradually get worse. You will pat yourself on the back, things will gradually get worse. Then things will explode. That's the nature of exponential functions. And everyone will say 'how did this happen?'
Look at it this way, if 3% of population are infected, you have a 97% chance of dealing with UNinfected people in your daily life. As infections increase your chances that the guy next to you is infected goes up. If gets harder and harder to remain UNinfected, especially if you don't change your habits/actions.
1057, it would be more interesting to read your worthless thoughts if you at least included a little bit of fact in your vitriol.
Reeves has been encouraging employers to allow their employees to work from home for several days now. This is nothing new; and just how do you think he "kneecapped" municipal officials efforts to flatten the curve? Let's hear you give a little more 'specifics' rather than your rant because you obviously don't like the man, supported one or more of his opponents, and continue to want to fight the political battle that you lost last fall.
10:58, wonderful way to try to use numbers and call them factual. What you failed to include in your analysis, though, is that the number of cases is based on ALL tests run in the state. The number of tests reported as having been completed includes ONLY THOSE that were done by the MDOH at the state testing lab.
There are a number of tests being conducted by private labs, and the results of those tests are included in the reports, but the number of tests run by these private labs are not being included in the 'total tests conducted' number. That has been explained more than once by Dr. Dobbs in his daily briefings and was discussed at length in his comments yesterday (Tuesday).
1205 your ignorance is showing. The Covid 19 test is an RT-PCR which tests for viral RNA. This is as sensitive a test as exists for viral detection.
It’s almost like some of you idiots are rooting for the virus to do as much damage as possible just so you can say I told you so.
@12:23
I'm just sick of seeing so many mouth breathing fatties.
So what about an update on the state's first "victim" from
Forest County ?
Kingfish have you heard any more about this guy since his initial diagnosis ?
12:24 It’s almost like some of you idiots are rooting for everyone to go back to normal and get exposed just so you can say I told you so.
"THE GREAT IRONY OF PREVENTION IS THAT IF WE DO SUCCEED, WE MAY NOT EVEN KNOW THAT WE DID."
It seems to me the best-case scenario is that widespread self-quarantine/social distancing works as most of us hope it will. Then, in a few weeks, we return to a semblance of normalcy and all those who claimed there was nothing to COVID-19 claim victory, that they were right all along.
MS has tested less than 2000 people. Oh look, we're trending down in infections! Whatever.
Almost nobody is really getting the exponential nature of the infection.
But you, of course, get everything. You're the friggin' expert.
Dude, go get some because your hand is worn out.
We are facing death and I've spent a lifetime in sin. Now I can't even go to church.
I knew former Lexington mayor Clint Cobbins. I am so sad. He was a good man.
”Dude, go get some because your hand is worn out.“ Let me guess. Ole Miss. Lawyer or Business grad. Daddy was wealthy. You and your wife look great in pictures, but you both know there’s an emptiness where something should be.
If God takes me by this, so be it. I’m ready! Thanks to Jesus!
You really don't need a test, you will know you have it by the 6th. Day.
Does anyone know how many flu deaths we had in Mississippi in 2018 and/or 2019?
There are so few tests in this state that only extremely sick people are getting tested. The numbers we are getting have almost nothing to do with reality.
Can't see the point of testing centers at this phase of the game. One outing snd a person who tested negative could be infected. Seems like a waste of resources of our military and medical personnel. Testing should be used by hospital personnel at triage outside areas. Why the gen. pop. is lining up for a test, especially those with no symptoms is pointless.
@1:55 Good rule of thumb in debates is you know you've won when the opponent resorts to personal attacks.
This thing does not care if you are black, white, orange, democrat, republican, libertarian, etc.
I spoke with a very good friend today from out of state. He's tracking deaths and rating his actions based on that. Deaths lag infection by what, 2 weeks or so? By the time deaths spike enough to start really changing behavior new infections will be off the charts... exponentially. Then we are all toast.
Yes, I'd like to be back to work. Yes, I'd like my personal projects and stuff to NOT be on hold for this. I'm not willing to sacrifice 5% of the USA population to do so. Clearly at this time, it's a lose/lose scenario. We just have to pick how badly we want to lose.
@12:37, If you were actually following the CDC guidelines, you probably wouldn't have to see very many people at all, much less "so many mouth-breathing fatties." Of course, once all the parties are over and everyone's gone home, we're always left with that mirror that sees beneath the surface.
@3:11 Only if you don't trust numbers. We are tracking on a 30% daily increase, which is about the same as the rest of the US give or take. If you want reality... look at the states and countries that are 1,2,3,4 weeks ahead of us. That's where we are headed unless we drastically change. Stay home. Eat whatever happens to be in the cabinets and be patient.
'Better than ever' - only a 15% increase and you're seeing a positive trend? What a total dumb-ass. Wait till we finally get with the testing program.
Hello. Newsflash: When there's virtually no testing going on, as compared to other states, we don't expect much increase in positives. How damned simple is that? And stupid.
@5:49 Are you blind? I said I hope this starts a trend. A daily rate of 15% would be a very nice change from the ~30% we have been seeing for weeks. Almost certainly a statistical blip, but tomorrow will tell more.
This virus doesn't care about your feelings. Stay home.
And mass testing is not going to happen. Labs can't process them quickly enough. Once we get much further along we won't know how the numbers look.
