Ole Miss sent this email out to prospective donors yesterday.
Hmmm..... perhaps UMC will include the bequest form as part of the paperwork for admission of elderly Covid19 patients.

Maybe we wouldn’t have to beg had we not
1 changed from Ole Miss to univ. of ms.
2. Done away with Col. Reb.
3. Changed the name of the Meeks bldg.
4. Gotten rid of Col. Reb.
5. Disparage those who died in the Civil War who were fighting for state rights.
6. Moving statues erected to recognize those who died in war for those rights.
7. Produced one of if not the most undisciplined athletic departments in the country.
Go to your usual sources for the money. By the way, why do we need more money with enrollment levels at historic lows.
Shameless Oxford for ya.
Maybe some stricken, old money soul will see fit to leave these insufferable bastards some self awareness.
Looks like Ole Miss hasn’t improved its public relations work since the Freeze scandal. Do they have any one working for the university who doesn’t have a tin ear?
Ole Miss is swimming in endowment money. Its coconspiritor, the college board, does nothing but raise tuition.
They should be ashamed to ask for anything
The Covid pandemic is like everybody in the nation winning the lottery- you hear from long lost cousins with a hand out that you haven't heard from in years.
Every day, at 7 am, as you try to keep your job, the bastards flood your email with spam.
But, I gotta admit, this one takes the cake. Tone Deaf Award for the Alum MoneyGrubbin' Industry.
Let's play Rename this Pathetic Pitch:
"Hey, Gramps. You're all Goners, so Be Sure You Give Us Dollers."
"Not Yet Cold, but our 'Fundraisers' are Bold"
"When You're Last Words are Hotty Toddy,
Don't Let the UMAA Be Forgotten"
"Good Times There are Not Forgotten,
Send Me a Check Before You are Rotten"
I'll preface this by saying I am an MSU alum. However, even through the rivalry, I could respect the love that Ole Miss alums had for the university. I could see the appeal. Just like I can acknowledge that Georgia Tech has a good engineering school, LSU has a great football atmosphere, etc. I wan't an Ole Miss fan, but I could be unbiased and acknowledge the positives.
The things that turned my stomach on Ole Miss were this.
1. The increased liberalization of the university (and all colleges are having a problem with this, including my beloved MSU).
2. The reckless and unapologetic behavior during the Freeze tenure, then the "we are the victim" attitude.
3. The promotion of the professor who urged assault of conservatives.
4. The whole mistreatment of Mr. Meek.
5. The extra lean to the left and political correctness (kinda ties in with #1 above)
7:47, their endowment is woeful compared to major universities all over the country, and even in the south. Yes, compared to Mississippi schools, it is the largest. But that's the problem with using Mississippi as the yardstick.
Sorry for all of you who are pining for the days when jeff davis and the like put states rights up where you think they belong today.
Sorry for you and yours who can't wear the kepis and stars and bars and celebrate your glorious confederacy and reminisce about the good old days like you and all your forebearers could in the good old days.
Actually, not sorry.
It takes a special kind of person to fit in at ole miss apparently, hence their reminder to donate if you catch the virus that the hard right refused to believe was real until it was too late.
If the same hard right now decide to kill lots of people in a misguided effort to to save the economy and the investor class, why not be death capitalists and monetize the deaths? (Do the appropriate people get commissions on this type of activity?)
3. The promotion of the professor who urged assault of conservatives.
4. The whole mistreatment of Mr. Meek.
These are the two reasons I'll never send another dime to Ole Miss.
Ole Miss currently has approximately 50 history professors.
One of them is a Mississippian.
the beautiful people of the SEC out begging. hey man, don't say that so loud. what are you trying to do ? ruin our reputation ?
@8:53am - Because anyone with a degree and sense leaves Mississippi. They have to dupe the out of staters to come teach.
If they would have gotten rid of their conferate grabage years ago, their endowment would be flush with funds. Drop the nickname and call it by it's righful name U of Mississippi. Alumni will respond, more of us despise the association with the pass than those who embrace it.
Rebel fans are broke from paying football players.
Attending 9:23 AM
Why don’t you pack your bags and move to New York City. I hear there is room for you now.
The word Carpetbagger comes to mind. How ironic.
This is fake news. The school immediately sent out an apology and explained that the message was a previously scheduled newsletter focused on providing guidance for planned giving.
Where would other Mississippians be without Ole Miss to pick on?
Monty could not have said it any better.
"Throw out your dead - and give me your gold."
Bad on so many levels. You'd think that as the "prestigious university" they think they are, they could at LEAST attribute that "common expression" to the "dark" Greek philosopher Heraclitus of Ephesus who said it first some 2500 years ago. Be nice if they got the wording a little closer to correct too.
6:31 There are very few institutions dedicated to the advancement of knowledge where people like yourself will feel comfortable, including most pre-schools and kindergartens. If you choose to justify the Confederate States of America you might want to set up a soap box or pulpit in front of a cemetery or museum or even at the military park (or maybe at a mental institution) but I think you will be gravely disappointed at any tax payer supported multi-cultural institution in this nation, even the Univ. Of Mississippi. So keep your money in your pocket and wait for the South to once again secede from the liberal nation or maybe the "progressive" world. A good idea would be to hold your breath as a protest until it happens, Colonel Reb!
OM'68 here. This was not an example of a tone-deaf university but rather one that has totally lost its way. They are clueless, hapless, classless, and useless. Liberalism is, as Michael Savage says, a mental disorder that destroys itself in the end. Exhibit A... the Mississippi Land Sharks.
@2:35 is correct. He/she is an Ole Miss alum that unfortunately, doesn't see the same university today that he/she once loved. Liberalism and political correctness have totally changed the school.
8:46 - You would not recognize the Stars and Bars if you walked out in the yard to take a piss in the morning and it was flapping from your garage flag-pole. You're simply another hapless liberal who thinks it occupies the Canton Corner of the State Flag. Hint: It doesn't.
Attn 5:57. That is real class! Sober up before you embarrass my school with your ignorance.
@10:09am "This is fake news. The school immediately sent out an apology and explained that the message was a previously scheduled newsletter focused on providing guidance for planned giving."
Sigh, more Lack of Institutional Control....
