Great! Thanks for sharing!
I wondered what was going on in the terminal yesterday, lots of self-important folks hanging around stuffing their faces - some of us were actually catching flights in an attempt to contribute to the economy...
"Limited, introductory, discounted fares are available ...." Forgive me for curbing my enthusiasm until we see where these fares will settle once reality sets in.
Credit to Carl Newman (a good man who doesn't deserve the terrible hand he has been dealt) for bringing something positive to the table. And credit to Senator Harkins for lighting a raging fire under their @$$ with SB2162. I've never seen such scrambling around trying to show competence and energy and effort in my life. It's almost like they finally give a damn.
has anyone heard of this airline? recommend?
By the time you make the long taxi ride from this remote unheard of airport, you probably have saved neither time nor money and have flown on an aircraft that probably was taken out of service by a well known airline being piloted by a pilot either working his or her way up to or down from a major airline.
Very good news. But, sadly, Via won't produce the route competition badly needed to drive down the exorbitant flight$$$ elsewhere out of JAN.
I flew this airline from Mobile Alabama . To steamboat and it was quite nice.
Up and coming airline. No different that Allegiant or Jet Blue before everybody heard of them.
Could they possibly be worse that American or United? Of course not.
@ 9:37
Good grief. Your in quite a mood this AM... who pissed in your cornflakes?
Interesting criticism on social media about this airline flying to the wrong airport in Orlando.....same people that are begging for Southwest to come back.....an airline that made its mark by flying in and out of secondary airports.
Some people just wake up looking for something to criticize. But this IS good news.
Any time I can fly something that is not part of the Delta southeast route monopoly, count me in.
A 20 minute shuttle into Orlando or sitting 90 minutes in Atlanta praying that something doesn't go wrong? No-brainer.
@9:37 is very weak on math. Sad! Do you really think connecting in ATL and flying into MCO is faster?
You can connect in Sanford to Allegiant so maybe there are some possibilities. Better than nothing.
For those traveling to Disney World, be aware that the free Magical Express bus service does NOT pick up at this airport, so you will have to find your own transportation. With that said, any new competition is good for Jackson.
9:37, Samford Airport is approximately 35 minutes from downtown Orlando. Orlando International Airport is approximately 25 minutes away from downtown. It's a ten-minute difference. And 9:53 is right, the extra ten minutes it takes to get from Samford to Orlando is more than made up by the fact that you're no longer connecting in ATL.
Cheer up. Not everything is terrible.
Good grief you people are so freaking negative.
Great news! Just have to consider you'll land about an hour away from Disney. And with a small fleet and a single flight per day a weather or mechanical cancellation could strand you and your vacation. So, it's a tradeoff, but an option that is nice to have.
transportation to and from disney- uber or lyft. problem solved
this will bring down the cost of a flight to orlando on the other carriers
let’s use this as good news. what if this airline is the next southwest and we are in early on their growth.
WON'T LAST A YEAR !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The airport is about 12 minutes further away from Disney than Orlando airport. I lived in Orlando for 15 years and everyone there knows both of these airports are very busy. Just be a few people in Jackson Mississippi aren't familiar with them doesn't mean they're not ideal. New yorkers front long island use this airport constantly for private flights.
Sanford is the secondary airport, but it’s hardly in the middle of nowhere or unknown. You can’t ask for a low-cost airline and be salty because they do what low-cost airlines do.
@10:21 - its called being realistic, Jackson could fuck up a wet dream
Feel better 10:21?
We can't help it 10:21, we are the arm pit of the south !!!
"Jackson could fuck up a wet dream"
Come for the news; stay for the poetry ;-)
They’re establishing a hub at Austin. So, if this start-up succeeds, we can expect direct flights there. Y’all just can’t complain.
Gulfport has had this option for over a year through allegiant. They fly MD-88 with 160 seats and flights start at 30 bucks each way.
11:09: You hate on them for underperforming, per your opinion, and you hate on them for trying to make improvements... I bet it's hell living at your house.
While it is nice to have this option, it’s like putting a butterfly band aid on a sucking chest wound.
In his eyes, this dumb mayor thinks this is a giant win and a game changer. It’s not. Have flights to ONE additional destination 4 day’s a week is not really a solution.
Until a major airline comes back in, nothing will be different. Add the terrible customer service and bad attitudes at this airport and you can see why the City with Soul is miles from having even a decent airport.
Still keeping my fingers crossed for a state take over. Jackson leadership has failed once again.
One Southwest flight once a day into/from one of their hubs would change the whole dynamic.
Guys, Southwest isn't coming back. Ever.
They took the route capacity from Jackson and invested it into their international legs. Happened many airports all over the country.
As much as we'd like them to... they aren't.
American, Delta, and United all fly into Jackson. That's about it for mainline carriers these days.
I've flown from JAN many times and have no complaints. Security is fast and low key compared to other airports. Never had a problem with any employees. It certainly doesn't have the amenities of larger hubs, but I am in and out of the airport in about the time it takes to go into Walmart and buy a gallon of milk. Adding a new airline is a very positive thing in my view and nothing to complain about. Airlines have a say in this process and it's not like Jackson can just summon all of the major airlines to add routes at will. I'm just glad as hell I don't have to drive to Memphis or New Orleans to catch decent flights.
Ever? You don't know that.
It is the only airport I know of that always has fresh flowers in the ladies' rooms. Now that is a plus. Can we please occasionally look on the bright side?
"Still keeping my fingers crossed for a state take over. Jackson leadership has failed once again. "
As bad as Jackson leadership is, I still wouldn't count on state leadership being much better.
I agree 3:13.
We have a nice airport that is much nicer than those in many cities 3 times the size of our metropolitan area.
It's also incredibly clean by comparison to most any airport.
I think some of these naysayers not only don't understand the difference between a hub and an international airport serving a State. That they think those who gave us Magnolia Venture and the meat packing plant and who are responsible for us being at the bottom of every measurement of government performance, could do better shows you just how clueless they are.
Yeah 10:41, but not sure I'd risk my family's hard earned once in a lifetime vacation to Disney or Universal on a single flight option with no backup to save a couple of hundred bucks.
Greenville has flights to Nashville RT for less than a hundred bucks. With no rectal examinations.
9:15
Sanford is not an unheard of airport. Especially if you want to go East to the beaches. Its great to get in and out of compared to MCO.
