Treasurer Lynn Fitch and
College Savings Mississippi are excited to announce the fourth annual
College Savings Mississippi Savings Shootout to be held during the 2018
Mississippi High School Activities Association
(MHSAA) State Basketball Tournament at the Mississippi Coliseum in
Jackson on March 8-10, 2018. “I am excited to continue our partnership with the
MHSAA. This event is just one of the many ways we engage our community
and encourage Mississippi families to start saving for education
expenses,”
said Treasurer Fitch. “And, for our winners, it gives them a jumpstart on saving for their future.”
College Savings Mississippi will host a Savings
Shootout during halftime at each of the twelve championship games
throughout the weekend. Two contestants will be randomly chosen from
entrants to participate at each game. Each participant
will have 60 seconds to shoot as many free-throws as possible and the
contestant with the highest number of shots made will win a $529
Mississippi Affordable College Savings (MACS) scholarship. Participants
must be Mississippi residents and must be able to
shoot a free throw at MHSAA regulation goal height.
“We are looking forward to awarding twelve $529 MACS scholarships during this year’s State Basketball Championships,”
Treasurer Fitch continued. “College Savings Mississippi
has always been a great tool to help stretch your savings dollar and
reach your dreams. Now that you can use MACS for K-12 tuition as well,
it’s an even better tool for Mississippi families.
Since we started these promotions a few years ago, we’ve awarded over
$125,000 in scholarships. This is money that makes a real difference to
families looking for ways to make higher education a reality.”
