Hinds County Circuit Judge Tomie Green blessed an accused killer recently. Read and weep.
WLBT reported in September:
A Jackson murder suspect has been arrested by U.S. Marshals in Kansas after eluding authorities for nearly two weeks. Marvin Willoughby, 25, now faces charges in the death of 28-year-old Freddie Mosley.County Court Judge Bill Skinner denied bond for Willoughby on October 30, 2016. The order stated that he was to be set free if not indicted by January 30, 2018 per Judge Green's 2013 order.
On September 12, Jackson police were investigating a deadly shooting that happened at a west Jackson hotel where Mosley was shot to death in his car. Police say they got a call about a car in a building at Mister Transmission on Hwy 80. When they arrived, they found a man dead inside the car with multiple gunshot wounds. The shooting happened at 3:15 a.m. at Mustang Inn, just down the street from Mister Transmission.
Police identified Wiloughby as the shooter. Article and video.
Kingfish note: Accused of murder and caught after fleeing to another state. Did I mention he is a resident of Memphis? Nice. At least he is still in jail as he apparently can't scratch up the money even for this ridiculously low bond.
This is what is meant by a "Judge Green blessing."

Un-fucking-believable. How does the state supreme court let this farce continue?
It's murder, not shoplifting.
Why can't the DA get an indictment in 5 months? I'm no Green fan, but this is a ham sandwich problem. If Smith would do his job, then this issue wouldn't arise.
How much was his bond?
$5000 bond for murder. Sort of gives people an idea how much a life is worth in Jackson.
All he has to do is come up with 10% of that to get out of jail.
Sad when law enforcement in Jackson puts a $500 value on a person's life.
This excuse of a human being (the judge) has been a pox on the residents of Hinds County (and Mississippi as a whole) for much too long. It's past the time for her to be removed from the bench.
She REDUCED this thugs bond to $5K on a MURDER charge!! This idiots level of ignorance is never ending!!
Should the need arise to kill someone, I’ll definitely make the trip to Jackson to do so...
The people of Jackson get the government they deserve. They keep electing her. May he will kill a few of her voters.
Smith, Green - these are what Jackson voters want. People who don't prosecute cold-blooded killers (okay - ALLEGED cold-blooded killers), or who give ridiculously low bonds and light sentences.
Anyone who chooses to live in Jackson deserves to live with jungle-like anarchy and violence. The people have spoken.
Meanwhile, let's get busy with that moat to replace County Line Road.
The DA is worried about his own criminal trial next week. What makes you think he gives a damn about getting indictments?
Don't be angry with Judge Green, though I do agree bond of $5K for a murder is way too low. Judge Skinner set no bond and his order states: "If the Defendant remains in jail without posting bond and is not served a capias after indictment by a grand jury by January 30, 2018, he shall be released from custody on this charge for lack of prosecution without further order of this Court."
So per Judge Skinner's order, he should have just been released, period.
This is a DA problem, not a judge problem. The DA needs to indict these people and needs to prioritize indictments for murder over indictments for lesser crimes. Otherwise, this will keep happening.
It was Judge Green who issued that 2013 order in the first place. The order requires her to review the bond order, not set them free. She apparently reviewed it and lowered the bond. Keep in mind he was caught in another state and lives in another state.
I would not accept 10% ($500) to sign off on this bird appearing!
...and hopefully he will return to that state never to return to Mississippi again. I know, that is not the solution to the problem, but possibly he will commit a non-violent crime in that state and the judicial system there will dole out appropriate punishment.
Maybe thugs like this is the reason MCSO profiles !
I don't live in Jackson, so I don't usually comment on these rants - but I have been a prosecutor and a defense lawyer. The problem here is a tightrope - in this country, we have certain constitutional rights, and one of those is the right against unlimited confinement. The fault here lies in several places - and as much as some would like, it is not with Judge Green. The police should have proved the DA with the information to use to indict this guy. They arrested him - they should have the evidence in hand to indict him. The DA should have someone on his staff paying attention to detainment times and putting some pressure on the PD or sheriff to get the evidence to present to the grand jury. Does the guy have a lawyer? Sometimes people are arrested, charged in municipal court with an appointed public defender, bound over to the grand jury, and returned to jail. The municipal defender's job stops at that point, and the guy doesn't get a county public defender until he gets arraigned. Nobody is requesting a speedy trial.
Plenty of fault to go around, and as much as I don't always agree with Judge Green, I have to give this one to her. It is not her fault.
And before somebody says "But wait! This is murder we are talking about." Think about this what if you were being held in jail on a charge, without any idea when or if they will get around to doing something with you? And what if you were innocent? Even if you were guilty, you would still have the right to move things along in the system - not just sit it out in Hinds County Jail.
Green certainly is to blame for the decision to approve the low bond.
Thank you 11:49 for bringing an Expert opinion. It just boils down to the entire system needing a level of organization that Jackson elected officials can not muster. That is the real story here.
Can we talk about the elephant in the room: why has the case not been brought before the grand jury? Why is RSS not to blame for this?
Y'all are so quick to jump on Green, but in this case she did get it right. The State cannot just lock someone up and throw away the key without due process. If he hasn't been indicted, then he is Constitutionally entitled to have a bond set until such time as he has been indicted by a grand jury.
The outrage is well warranted, but it is being directed at the wrong entity.
Green could have set a higher bond. But go ahead and keep deflecting.
Maybe President Trump will allow Jeff Sessions to take over and correct the Hinds County Justice system...oh well, would be nice
Tomie Green is unopposed for re-election.
I live in Jackson. I would LOVE to vote for someone other than Green, but she never has any competition to vote for.
She seems to feel a deep sense of kinship with violent predators, and a profound disregard for victims. I'll never understand it.
And a $5,000 bond for MURDER is ludicrous. Absolutely ludicrous.
I understand the need to offer bond when charges aren't moving forward though. IIRC, one of the more serious riots at the Hinds County jail was started by a young man who'd been in it for nearly 2 years... on a marijuana charge. A misdemeanor marijuana charge, if I'm not mistaken. I think they forgot he was in there!
Someone will be along shortly to declare that this is why MJ and other drugs should be legalized.
Don't listen to him... he's high.
Someone should have filed to oppose her. Don't know why or who, but they should have. Anyway, its water under the bridge. Maybe this is a case that would interest Mike Hurst?? We need help and we need it badly.
The upside @3:09 is that the filing deadline isn't until May 11th. The downside is that so far Kidd is also unopposed. It will be black Jackson which decides their fates. Unfortunately all of Hinds County suffers for their decisions to support soft on crime judges.
Green, Schumer, Stokes, Baby Chok and all the others are exactly what Jackson wants:
1) Politicians that do the bidding of the voters.
2) Politicians that reflect the attitudes of the culture.
3) Politicians that understand the constituents.
Not all that different from any other City.
Just illegal, immoral and corrupt.
Again, not all that different from any other City.
6:40 pm, It is Politicians "WHO" not "that"!
Did you not go to school? Good grief!
Remember this: It is a
'thing' that...
It is a 'person' who.
Example: I have a car that...
I know a politician who.....
Misuse of English grammar should be a criminal offense.
Is Tomie Green trying to match this judge's record?

@ 10:38
Thanks for the correction.
I think I can remember the "things=that" correlation.
Probably need some work on who and whom.
Always room for improvement!
Some people can make a million dollar bond, and there are some people who can't make a thousand dollar bond. The amount is irrelevant most of the time.
I dont know what happened nethee
nether does the people who commenting... It could have been self defense mfers but talking and don't know the reason for what was done. He could have been a victim nobody knows
. smh
HOW COULD YALL LET THAT WALK FREE AND HE KILLED MY BROTHER FOR NO REASON.. SINCE HE AINT NO TELLING HE MIGHT KILL AGAIN. JACKSON JUDGES AND LAW ENFORCEMENT AINT HITTING ON NOTHING.
