Mississippi Secretary of State Gidget Hosemann confirmed one of the worst-kept secrets in Mississippi politics as he said he will not run for re-election. Mr. Hosemann said he is considering running for higher office. The Street Committee says it will be Leftenent Governor but if somehow one Mr. Tate Reeves becomes U.S. Senator, then it will be interesting to see if Mr. Hosemann runs instead for Governor. Such speculation assumes that he is not appointed to replace Senator Thad Cochran, of course. Let the silly season begin.

Trollfest '09
Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.
Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).
Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.
Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".
In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.
In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.
Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.
Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!
This is definitely a Beaver production.

Trollfest '07
Jackson Jambalaya is the home of Trollfest '07. Catch this great event which promises to leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Sonjay Poontang and his band headline the night with a special steel cage, no time limit "loser must leave town" bout between Alan Lange and "Big Cat"Donna Ladd following afterwards. Robbie Bell will perform Her two latest songs: My Best Friends are in the Media and Mama's, Don't Let Your Babies Grow up to be George Bell. Sid Salter of The Clarion-Ledger will host "Pin the Tail on the Trial Lawyer", sponsored by State Farm.
There will be a hugging booth where in exchange for your young son, Frank Melton will give you a loooong hug. Trollfest will have a dunking booth where Muhammed the terrorist will curse you to Allah as you try to hit a target that will drop him into a vat of pig grease. However, in the true spirit of Separate But Equal, Don Imus and someone from NE Jackson will also sit in the dunking booth for an equal amount of time. Tom Head will give a reading for two hours on why he can't figure out who the hell he is. Cliff Cargill will give lessons with his .80 caliber desert eagle, using Frank Melton photos as targets. Delbert is just too old for Washington. I see him as either Gov. or Lt. Gov.
Sure would like to see Delbert as our Senator, but if that doesn't happen, I'd still vote for him in any other statewide office.
Delbert is reflexively liberal on every issue. His leadership would not help our state. But of course, he's a nice guy and very popular so he will probably win whatever office he seeks.
I just love those ads where he mocks old people who can't say his name!
@3:03 PM, I differ with your "his leadership would not help our state" statement. For many years, our state has had no leadership. Those currently in office have kept us ranked 50th in everything good and 1st in everything bad. I will definitely support Delbert.
He is not 3:03, "reflexively liberal" on every issue. He is a devout Catholic. Where do people get this shift? He does have a balanced world view, things that drive uber right winger tin foil types nuts.
Delbert's age is a good thing. He's got grit and that's good. He's too tall for state politics anyway.
I think he will be much better than Phil. I've lived down from Delbert for years in NE Jackson and he's a good neighbor and a kind individual. He's not outgoing by any means however, he is a good person.
I agree with 3:03. Mississippi needs more hardcore social conservatism. It's working great right now. Just look at our rankings. We're got number 50 on pretty much all of them. That's the highest number in the state rankings, which means we're the best!
People are beating down the doors to move here, or so I'm told.
The last thing we need is some center-right egghead trying to encourage private business development when he should be yelling at the gays to get out!
Saints resign Drew Brees. This other junk is just filler.
All I've heard Delbert advocate for is spending more of my money on government programs. If that's not reflexively liberal, I don't know what is.
at 3:03 Dilbert has been part of the "leadership" for how many years? He's done nothing but look the other way while corruption, nepotism, and graft have about just destroyed the future of this state - and right under his nose. He's nothing but a huckster, beanpole, good ole' boy lawyer beholden to the folks on the Oxford plantation. He'll probably get the Cochran appointment, and Mississippians will have to tolerate Haley Barbour's closet white sheets from Oxford for another 20 years. His appointment is to maintain the status quo, which is that predominantly well-connected whites will rise (until Oxford is 100% Caucasian) and the rest of the state will pay for it, and continue to sink into despair. Hosemann represents everything wrong with Mississippi and why it's on the bottom, but HE will rise upwards because of his allegiances to keeping the money flowing to where the colonel rebels want it. Bank on it.
Other than seeking four high years on the PERS scale, what the hell is Delbert worth to this state? He's appeared on Gallo's show 43 times and has spent my tax money running advertisements for six years. What else, really, is there to this guy?
4:33, no one is moving to Misissippi and people with smarts are leaving soon as they can. Too many non productive people. You are correct that a right winger is needed.
4:33: WHO DAT!!!
@4:33
"Saints resign Drew Brees."
Are you saying the Saints "resigned" Drew Brees or are you saying the Saints "re-signed" Drew Brees?
Me thinks they have signed him again, not fired him.
Delbert Hoseman is liberal? I am a regular reader of this blog and a republican. I have to say there are some really regressive wingnuts who hang out on these comment pages.
Weird to read all these posts about the “Oxford Plantation” system. I’m a self made millionaire and somehow I went to Millsaps. I’ve never felt held back by Ole Miss or its alumni.
8:53 joke of the decade on this blog.
I am a guy educated in Louisiana, transferred here by a company that is British. When I figured out that I was rich with a 3k retirement check I taught I woke up in heaven.
8:35,
Please... your a uninformed liberal at best. While I agree with you about our current governor being pathetic as well as tate being weak as well. Your pointing out something very few people give a $hit about. The flag the flag... well I'm catholic and I am not a supporter of the flag due to oppression from kkk against Jews and black and catholics alike. I certainly don't believe people outside of a few care.
If you want someone who turns his head when his friends have done wrong, refuses to acknowledge that he does not know everything, lets employees do their job instead of tracking their being 3 minutes late or leaving 3 minutes early, runs off key employees, or pays outside firms lots of money to do the job he has employees in place for (who would have stayed if given just a portion of that money), then by all means, pat the man on the back. He is great at the talk, but not so much on the walk.
I say let him go home and stay there.
What about the two suicides that have happened on his watch? I'm talking about two funeral home operators that have committed suicide on his watch. He has done little to collect the monies owed to families that have loved ones. One of which was the chairman of the Funeral Service Board! Dilbert needs to account for his actions since he took office. He let Morgan Shands go free and not and collect but one payment for fraud in Bingo Baby.
Hosemann is a loser....but inf Mississippi, that is why he will be elevated. The Oxford plantation is where the centrality of power lies.....since the Civil War.....which is still going on in their minds, only regular Mississippians are ALL less than they are this time around.
Same obvious troll posting the Oxford garbage over and over again.
I really don't know much about Hosemann and his tenure as Sec of State. What are the chances that anyone can give some objective information about him and his tenure, accompanied by facts both positive and negative, about that tenure - his accomplishments and failures as Sec of State, if you will. And by facts, I mean, you know, FACTS, as in, "he accomplished X" or "he failed to accomplish Y," rather than opinions about Ole Miss/Oxford.
at 10:30 Objective Facts: Mississippi is at the bottom of the nation in every performance indicator measured, and in the top three for verified corruption. There you go.
March 14 at 10:30am again
March 14, 2018 at 10:43 AM responded: "at 10:30 Objective Facts: Mississippi is at the bottom of the nation in every performance indicator measured, and in the top three for verified corruption. There you go."
I have no illusions about Mississippi having the issues you say (and other negative issues as well), but how does Hosemann figure into any of those issues (or any others)? He may be as corrupt as they come or just the person to help solve some of those issues; I don't know, hence, my question.
10:30 how about taking that on yourself as a research project and hooking up with Kingfish to have your report published here? Or, alternately, you can hit the JJ tip jar and sponsor the research.
@ 11:48am Ok, clearly you have no public administrative experience so you have NO idea, what is and isn't possible, much less how government is supposed to work and serve the people. Great things are happening in many states due to good and transparent government administrations....even WITH limits in their funding. HORRIBLE things (graft, malfeasance, nepotism, fraud) are happening in other states, and clearly in Mississippi. Yes, from personal experience THEY. ARE. HAPPENING. Look at the quagmire of BS that Hillary wrought on the federal government. Dilbert knows about just as much garbage that shouldn't be happening, but looks the other way because he's either he's benefitting from it, or he's got friends in Oxford that he doesn't want to make uncomfortable. Can you surely connect the dots? This isn't trolling, these are observations. You could audio/videotape it all if you had the time.
10:30 and 11:48 again - Lincoln and Kennedy were assassinated and Bernie Madoff swindled hundreds of people. I'm pretty sure Hosemann wasn't involved in any of that. I didn't and do not dispute that Mississippi has issues, including corruption and I know for a fact that there are decent honest people in Mississippi (well, at least a couple, anyway). I would suggest that anyone who "connect(s) the dots" without even having a single dot between the dot that represents Hosemann and the one that represents corruption is going to be making a lot of assumptions and the chances of them all being right is nil or nearly so. Like, as examples, stating as a fact what Hosemann "knows" and then, doubling down and stating as fact that he knows and does nothing for either of two and only two reasons.
I'll give it some more time, but it doesn't look like anything factual and objective - good, bad or middlin' - is going to be forthcoming. That's sad.
at 2:34pm "....Lincoln and Kennedy were assassinated and Bernie Madoff swindled hundreds of people. I'm pretty sure Hosemann wasn't involved in any of that." OOOOOk cupcake. That delusional loose-association, that has no relation whatsoever to this subject is all anyone needed to hear. You truly have no experience working in public service, so please just stay on the bench and safely watch from the sidelines until you understand the game.
I am republican and would have voted for Delbert without hesitation before I had personal dealings with him. He stood by and despite OVERWHELMING evidence that Morgan Stanley defrauded Mississippians he let them slide and didn't do a damn thing to punish them. It turns my stomach when I see him. His office met with us and we were assured they were going to handle it and we would be taken care of and the guilty parties would be punished. The office staff was amazed at the evidence we had the the management of Morgan Stanley had broken all the rules. Delbert patted them on the ass and sent them back in the game. He doesn't care about you and me. He will never get my vote.
Kingfish, I wish you had followed the testimony on that case. How Hoseman sleeps at night after letting them skate is beyond me!
@6:07 PM. Hosemann sleeps at night because he takes good care of friends in low places. His buddy Fred Brister at Morgan Stanley (and others) should have been turned over to an office with criminal authority and indicted.
There are many complaints and evidence of wrongdoing that Hosemann disregards because he really doesn't want to deal with it.
Can you imagine what he would do as a State Senator, Lt Governor or Governor?
I did a Google search and saw stories from numerous sources, including JFP, MS PBS, a couple of investment industry pubs and local media, and couldn't find any numbers but the $4.7 million Morgan Stanley paid (which consisted of $4.2 million to the 200 or so account holders, $400K in investigative costs and a $100 penalty). From those reports, it was a rogue broker and inept manager, which were then recent hires by Morgan Stanley. A check with FINRA shows millions paid directly to claimants by Morgan Stanley via awards and settlements. Does anyone know what the total losses were alleged to be versus the amounts reimbursed? From what I can find, Hosemann's office - at least appears - to have done its job about as well as could be expected. Anyone have any details that say otherwise?
Including the JFP? WOW, you were exhaustive.
Hoseman is a smart guy, I will support him. Why the Ole Miss hate? Is that Rosebowl? Oh, Hoseman attended Notre Dame.
Hosemann is a slick politician who plays the country hick part well. He got his law degree in Oxford and is well connected to their plantation.
@8:18 I have first hand details; I lived it. We supposedly "won" this big award and it was in all the news. Our "award" barely covered the commissions we paid to Morgan Stanley. We didn't get our money back and our retirement went out the window. The problems went much deeper than the media reported. M.S. would love for you to believe it was just a "rogue broker and inept management." We had emails that proved the upper management at Morgan Stanley looked the other way when the Ridgeland office was defrauding clients. Morgan Stanley stopped Steve Wyatt from trading in his own accounts because of his errors and erratic behavior, but still allowed him to trade in his clients accounts. Morgan Stanley was culpable and everyone knew it but the FINRA system is not set up to help the clients; it is set up to protect the brokerage house. It was a travesty and the only people that made money were the lawyers. Forget what you read in the news, get the FINRA transcripts from the case. I promise, you won't vote for Delbert if you read the real story.
