It appears Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics Deputy Director Mike Perkins resigned shortly after MBN settled a sexual harassment lawsuit with an employee. MBN told JJ in an email yesterday:
Deputy Director Mike Perkins chose to retire on Thursday, August 4, 2016, and he gave no reason for his decision.JJ broke the story of the settlement on July 18. JJ reported:
Does MBN have a good ole boy culture of crude sexual jokes, harassment of female employees, and a dreaded "Perkins Scale"? that rates women based on looks? The Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics settled a sexual harassment suit last month for undisclosed terms. MBN Special Projects Officer Mary Katherine Sullivan sued MBN on September 4, 2015 for alleged acts of sexual harassment committed by MBN Deputy Director Mike Perkins. Rest of post & copy of lawsuit. The two sides reached a settlement agreement on June 21. The Clarion-Ledger finally reported the settlement of the lawsuit on August 1. The rest of the lazy lapdog media in Jackson dutifully picked up the newspaper's "story". Mr. Perkins resigned three days later.

Perkins' behavior is the cultural norm at the Mississippi Department of Public Safety and by act or omission it is encouraged by leadership. Self-entitled and poorly qualified morons masquerading as public servants hurt not only the perception of the state, but make it impossible to attract real talent in state government.
Gov. Bryant said in his statement that this kind of behavior isn't tolerated; well, I suppose it is tolerated until there is a lawsuit and a costly settlement.
One more time I ask for a complete listing of the of lawsuits which arise from mistreatment and harassment of not only DPS employees, but all state employees and the total amount awarded to plaintiffs - I know that they are sealed individually, but can we get an answer about how much this bullshit is costing taxpayers?
We can't even get info on what they are spending on state business. Good luck on wanting anything else.
The only Public Safety official to really key in on confronting the ongoing problems at DPS and MHP with regard to racial discrimination and harassment of women was the late George Phillips. He pushed those issues forward, but eventually left before either issue reached a peak. Before and now after Phillips, the matters have been left to fester until recently.
They can't have confidentiality in a matter in which public funds were used to settle the case.
10:40 - the attorneys, plaintiffs and defendants may beg to differ; each of those settlements stipulate and require non-disclosure and confidentiality agreements on the part of both parties. Try as you may, but I'd like to KF or some other journalist request an agency-by-agency listing of total claims and settlements categorized by action, but anonymized to comply with those privacy stipulations.
The State of Mississippi cannot pay one dime of a judgment or a settlement from the Treasury unless approved by the legislature and signed by the Governor as part of the appropriations process. There must be a Bill sponsored by a legislator to authorize the payment of any settlement or judgment. In some cases the Bill may identify the litigants, in some cases it may not. The amount appropriated may involve a case with multiple plaintiffs without breaking down who actually got what. I really don't know the details of that side of the process. These Bills exist.
Why are you two days behind the Clarion in reporting this?
@6:01 !!! News flash!!! Are you saying that JJ is copying off the CL? Certainly not. His boy is constantly on here telling us how JJ is always out front.
Come to think of it, his boy hasn't been around for a week or so. Maybe JJ cut off his paycheck.

If you really want this, go get it yourself. You and others keep expecting JJ to get what info you want. There is no magic to this - you can file a PRR just the same as JJ or D Hampton. Get off your duff and do your own work - unless, of course, you want to admit to your Democratic tendencies and expect someone else to do all your work for you.
