By remaining in Jackson, you people are not only endangering yourselves, but the lives of your families as well. Simple as that.

This isn't just in Jackson. Two women yesterday, on two separate occasions, were followed from Clinton into Jackson, and then robbed.

Y'all 9:45 has shown the error of my ways. My life is changed by a commenter.

For this Public Advisory to be issued by the JPD you have to wonder what they aren't saying or in other words what we all don't know. I have for several years thought being in Jackson was unsafe for EVERYONE, and I sure do now.

What they're leaving out is that all of the victims have been white, and all of the culprits have been black.

It is good to see JPD being pro-active instead of reactive for a change. It helps keep us all safer for them to be open and honest about what is going on and not try to cover up crime to help public perception. The more communication, the better we can all help watch out for crime!

I live in Madison. Carjackings have happened here. Person was arrested on a lesser charge so that the crime would be covered up.

Jackson police have never proactive. Come to think they are not really very reactive either.

She also says she was unaware of any injuries. Wasn't a young woman shot just a week ago? And the crimes have been happening in downtown, fondren, belhaven, and Northeast Jackson. All of the victims have been white.

how is this new news? most people have been, or should have been, cautious in Jackson for years! enter at your own risk.

I know a female resident at UMMC was kidnapped and when they couldn't get more money out of her account at the ATM they shot her in the leg I believe it was. It is only a matter of time before a female is raped. The Doctors leave at all hours of the night and there is no security guard that will escort them to their cars. The medical students get a ride to the parking lot across the street in a golf cart and dropped off to walk to the other side of the stadium on their own. They are going to get their pants sued off because it is obvious that it is a dangerous situation.

You are correct. Last year there was a cajacking in Madison resulting in a police chase that ended in Ridgeland with the suspect being killed in a shootout with police. It happened behind Mac's Market. Oh, wait...it was on the news and in the papers, reported as a carjacking. I thought I just dreamed this.

Not sure what a previous poster was referring to about JPD NEVER being proactive. Maybe I just don't know the correct definition. Clearly, I remember classes for the elderly on avoiding crime, particularly educating about con-artists. Also, door to door inspections of your locks and suggestions regarding making your home safer. Cops meetings are certainly pro-active. I've attended the Citizens Police Academy and heard drug talks in school. Also an excellent program on sex crimes. A Few years ago JPD gave out steering wheel locks. I could go on and on, but why? You wouldn't believe me.

Again would someone please indicate the locations where these incidents have occurred? As a woman, I would like very much to know. For instance, have there been carjackings on Old Canton Road in the stretch between Ridgewood Road and Rice Road? Is this an area in which law enforcement is trying to become more active to provide protection? Any additional information would be so helpful. Thank you so much.

11:06, you are right. Many of the cops think that is their right as cops to be a criminal. Some become very open with their criminal activity. Sometimes other cops are forced to arrest their fellow cops when they become just too open with their after hours jobs. Most of the time they are let go to continue their criminal ways.

I'm glad the JPD will not release the locations of these crimes. We the people have no right to know. Lee Vance is phony when it comes to the white women.

Lets think about this for a minute. If women are in danger and need warnings why not let the women know what areas they are in danger when going there? Unless we are talking about the entire city of Jackson.

I'm a 55 year old white mother of 4 living in NE Jackson. Yes, I'm concerned about the crime (all but one of mine is off at college and the son at home is aware), but if there's crime in Jackson, there's crime in the outlying areas. I have friends that work closely with Madison and Ridgeland police, and they have told me for years that the crime there is underreported. I don't doubt it as it's not like these thugs see County Line Road and go "Oh, hell, no, not crossing that county line". The hotels in Madison/Ridgeland seem to have more crime than the Jackson ones for the most part - particularly those near the interstate.

Regardless of who is and isn't immune, what happens in Jackson affects all the outlying cities - bashing it doesn't make anything better. I choose to live here because our neighbors are close friends and our neighborhood is very proactive in watching out for each other. And cause I don't want to drive 40 minutes a day to commute. If I worked in Mad/Ridge, I'd move closer to my work. My time is more precious than anything except my family. Be smart, don't go out alone after dark in Jackson OR Madison OR Ridgeland, carry a gun if it's your thing (I do), and be aware. That's my two bits. Let the hate replies flow...

7:43 pm is right. I didn't see any reports of the break-in and robbery in Madison that happened recently in one of the up scale gated developments. Given the method , dollar value and location, it would have been front page news and on this site had it happened in Jackson.
For decades, it's been " understood" that in Madison the police don't report or investigate but will give the victim a crime case number. The victims only tell close friends so as not to adversely affect the home values in the neighborhood.
Only those who have social connections and the victim's insurance company will know of the crime.
JPD reports every crime.
I'm a woman who has lived and will continue to live in Jackson without fear.

By the way, another warning went out to women recently that it's " Gang Initiation Week".
It's not. This is an urban myth. And, that these specific warnings come at different times of the year should be your hint. Think, last year, April was the big month for warnings.
Gangs do not operate like fraternities or sororities but rather take in members individually. Most of the time, members are " blessed" into a gang because they live in the neighborhood or have a family member in the gang or the gang exists at their school or they have joined in prison. Having committed a crime can gain gang attention and since there can be psychos , being "beat" in and such can happen, but in the US, this is not how gangs have operated.
Before you get upset by something purported to be from a Sheriff or Chief of Police try doing a search of the academic research on gangs available on the Internet instead or just try one of the fact or fiction websites.

7:43 - The only hotels in Madison County that have serious crime are, you guessed it, within a literal stone's throw of Jackson. Madison doesn't investigate crime? Are you serious? Then how is it almost every criminal event in the news results in arrests within a few days, then a speedy trial and sentencing typically less than a year after the crime was committed? It isn't near logical to believe these same cops spend 99% of their time doing nothing more than writing a case # on a card, but then spring into action as law enforcement professionals as soon as the news picks up a story. If your erroneous assumption was fact, then your elected official Kenneth wouldn't have PO-lice chases to complain about. Yes, crime happens everywhere, but to act like crime in the surrounding towns is anywhere near what it is in Jackson is absurd.

Everyone knows about the crime rate in Jackson. It is on the news everyday. If you don't believe it just take a trip to Jackson.
There is a reason people have moved out of Jackson.
There is a reason businesses have moved out of Jackson.
There is also a reason for the crime in Jackson. It is a sanctuary city for criminals. What other city can you list that will not allow the cops to chase the criminals?

I witnessed a burglary next door to my grand mother's house in Jackson. Perp broke in but got spooked and bolted without any loot apparently. JPD HBO'd it. I know for a fact JPD "under reports" crime either through intent or laziness.

Anyone who really cares knows about the way Jackson cops report crimes. Some would rather not know. Doesn't make Jackson any safer, just the opposite. Not only is Jackson a sanctuary city for criminals with the no chase rule, it is making crime even easier because of the way crime is reported.
