It appears a news online website is getting cranked up in the Jackson area. Mississippi News & Information Corporation stole R.L. Knave away from the Jackson Free Press. Its mission statement says:
MSNIC is a nonpartisan, digital news and information resource that aggressively and objectively covers state and local government affairs and community issues, including education, health, poverty and race, as well as Mississippi’s social culture. The staff will produce high-quality reporting to act as a government watchdog, support the functioning democracy and help shape the future of the state. Increasing citizen awareness, including how government action affects people and communities, may lead to greater civic engagement. MSNIC will help create the next generation of distinguished journalists by recruiting exceptional graduates of journalism, communications and public policy educational institutions and working with current students at the state’s colleges and universities to develop skills that will prepare them for productive careers. There is no website online but the company was advertising online that several positions were available for hire recently: Reporter II, Database Editor, Social Media Editor, Development Director.
The Secretary of State website states attorney Patrick McCraney is the registered agent and director (Where have we heard that name before?). The company is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and was formed in October 2014. Andrew Lack signed two documents that were filed at the Secretary of State's office in December 2014.
Kingfish note: The scuttlebutt is this organization is been revved up as a response to the Initiative 42 defeat. There are rumors of at least one major donor behind this caper but JJ has not been able to confirm them. One rumor is that MSNIC hired a former star reporter from the Clarion-Ledger's glory days covering the educational reform fight in the 1980's. Stay tuned.

NBC news chief Andrew Lack?
I don't understand the idea of covering "race"?
Why is there a need to cover news stories about people's skin tone? While they are at it, can we get some local news stories about blondes? Or people between 5'1 and 5'4? Or are they insinuating that the color of someone's skin carries some special meaning other than just aesthetics?
This caper? It's great news!
"nonpartisan" my ass
How is this different than the Jackson Free Press?
Steadivest.
Isn't the Woodland's address that of Jim Barksdale?
Race? MLK talked about how skins color should not matter. The press here in Jackson is obsessed with race.
800 Woodlands is McCraney's office.
Hmmm... Doesn't list a salary...

How can anyone here not think race is an issue.
It is as prevalent and relevant today as it was 50 years ago.
Segregation in schools, politics, churches, neighborhoods, hospitals, bars, exists worse now than it ever was.
True it is not the law of the state any longer...but it is how things have developed.
@10:56
It's amazing how free will works, isn't it?
You tend to forget that diversity is so wonderful, that it was enforced at gunpoint.
Racism is prevalent and relevant today only because some people make a living of keeping it that way. I we got rid of the race whores we would not be having so many race problems.
People do not want to be equal, they want a reason to force others to give to them.
Yes, 10:56, people segregate themselves because different folks have different cultures.
RL Knave is a liberal HACK! Non partisan my arse. he came from Free Press, you know that fair and balanced fish wrap.
Staying put here at JJ.
Barksdale go away.
@10:56 Every government agency is devoted to tracking us by race. The Pollsters seem to think it is the way to predict votes. "Groupthink" is supposed to be rampant according to the media. Of course, people designated as white can engage in 3 types of thought: Republican, Democratic, or Independent, nevertheless, we must all constantly think of our "whiteness" because it is structurally built-in according to some media. Quite frankly, I am sick of this throw-back policy. It reeks of "one-drop-of-blood" makes you black mentality. Census data before and after the Civil War is divided into race. Just mention merging a traditionally white college with an HBCU and the alumni go crazy. Race will continue its importance as long as the governments, the data nerds, and the media give it so much attention. This focused attention is killing any hope of unity.
Is R. L. Knave a pseudonym?
Kingfish, you're a first-rate investigator/jackass. I do wish that another blog would start up that would steal some of your habitual trolls. When Helen Mirren was describing drunk drivers in her Super Bowl ad, I was thinking how you could apply the same description to about half of your commenters. Not me, of course. :)
Freedom of speech is a precious right, so let the wild asses bray.
Like him or not, Nave is the only person at JFP that ever wrote anything remotely related to news and he did a pretty good job. Most of the rest of JFP material is feminist or gender hoopla.
Barksdale's office is in the Woodlands also.
Ah, "Knave" is some of your jackassery. Got me.
Amen to 12:50 and the other who needs Barksdale. Just because hes former head of Netscape and on FedEx and Time warner boards and chair of Mayo Clinic and W's Foreign Intelligence Board, that doesn't make him smarter than us and we're doing just fine without him. And just because hes given $200-million or so to education in MS don't mean squat. JJ's got everything covered, you liberal in sheep's clothing.
Several points to make:
- Knave is a real person, a nice one at that, and a credible journalist.
- From comments here, racism is alive and well.
- The Woodlands is an office PARK with many buildings and offices, so you conspiracy theorists are going to have to find something else to play.
- What would KF do without "trolls" - otherwise it'd just be the 3 of you yammering back and forth on every post.
Pablum, not hoopla.
Yup, only 3 of us. All those advertisers are only trying to reach a very small audience.
Well played, 3:00. Colbert himself would be proud.
There are 54 domains registered using this same email address. 11 of them were all done on December 9, 2015. The phone # of this registrant is in fact Andy Lack.

Nave was probably tired of donna ladd paying in gift cards. Plus shes got competition now with soc's "outfront" paper, an apparent revenge after jfp's reporting of the waste contract. KF why have you not reported on THAT jackassery?...
Good point. I need to.
Knave is pretty nice guy and takes his job seriously. He ran himself ragged working at that paper.
Seen 'em come and go. Othor Cain is a flake. I doubt Outfront hurts Donner, much. Not like JJ does. But paying employees with gift cards? That is a violation of the law.
Donna also has an army of unpaid "interns".
Free labor for the Jackson FREE press.
Guess she is going to cut out some of her air bnb'ing in NYC and actually work for a living, instead of talking about how much she works for a living.
Pass the tissues.
Jim Barksdalw lives in Meadowbrook Highlands by me. Do your research before spouting off

Using Alexa to predict web influence is like trying to predict hurricanes by sticking a wet finger in the air.
Any measure is better than no measure.
Only thing left to mull is how your finger actually got wet. Hmmmm.
