John Pittman Hey sent this little message and video about some cops in Greenwood that are in apparent conflict with statements made by the Greenwood police chief.
The statements made by Greenwood Police Chief Ray Moore to the Greenwood Commonwealth in yesterday's newspaper are shown to be clearly false when compared to the citizen video taken by Mr. Jelani Barr of the incident. (KF note: Mr. Barr is a candidate for Lieutenant Governor.).
Mr. Barr has posted what appears to be an unedited video that he took of Greenwood police at a local service station Tuesday night.
The video shows that as soon as the police demanded that Mr. Barr leave the scene, he complied.
They arrested him anyway.
At no time did Mr. Barr approach any police officer or any other person on the scene.
At no time did Mr. Barr create a disruption or behave in an offensive manner, or interfere with the police officers' duties.
Chief Moore had stated to the Commonwealth that Barr "came as close as standing between the patrol car that had stopped the car and the car that was stopped."
But the video clearly shows that Barr never stood between the two cars. Instead, he stayed in the sidewalk that the two cars were parked beside.
Moore further stated: "He was told several times to back off, and he refused."
The video shows this statement to be completely false.
Moore further stated: "He was interfering with the officers doing their job."
The video shows this statement to be completely false.
Moore stated finally that it was Barr's "refusal to back away that was the issue."
The video shows that Barr walked away from the scene 10 seconds after he was first requested to do so.

Trollfest '09
Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.
Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).
Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.
Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".
In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.
In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.
Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.
Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!
This is definitely a Beaver production.

"I ain't running for nothing but lieutenant governor."
Classic.
Here is the "background" story here. Mr. Barr is a perpetual candidate for office, now "running" for lieutenant governor. His campaign strategy each time is to arrange confrontations with law officers and then scream "mistreatment." This was filmed in a very rough part of Greenwood and it is a safe bet that there was a reason that the police were out in force. Mr. Barr is a deluded individual and it is just sad that there are folks like John Pittman Hey who urge him on.
If you walk up to a hornet's nest and start poking the nest, don't cry when you get stung.
Had he walked to the store and made a purchase, then proceeded to leave in an orderly fashion, no problems, but given that his only business was to make a you tube video, he could have been considered to be lottering.
It's just my observation, but if YOU were running for LT. Gov., wouldn't you be trying to respect what law enforcement officers tell you to do? And, what was he doing walking? Oh, I forgot....his car was impounded2 weeks ago.
Yes, he seems like a trouble maker. One more thing before I go. I beleive he can make a fairly decent living off of his campaign donors. Am I right? Maybe that's all he intends to do.
3:01 pm,
Wrong. It is a protected first amendment right to film the police. He obviously wasn't interfering, so the police had no right to mess with him.
They should be fired and sued.
Do commenters here even bother to read and watch the post before they comment?
Watch the video. He wasn't loitering. He stayed in front of the store for less than 2 minutes.
He obeyed the police when they told him to leave. It took 10 seconds from the first command to his turning his back and walking off.
What law did Mr. Barr break to justify his arrest?
Why did the police chief lie to the local newspaper about what happened?
And a perennial candidate? He's only run for office twice.
Kind of hard to say without knowing the whole story. But that never stopped anybody on here from opining on anything else.
I am white.. If this were a white man in a bad part of greenwood making the exact same video someone would be crying foul.. I am crying foul. Supreme court says you can video public servants. If this incident was bad enough the police should have created a perimeter and put up do not cross tape. Instead you see a civilian video taping police holding their belts up waiting to get their next break for some doughnuts.
Their presence like that at a store cant be good for business. "someone got robbed over there i guess we will go down the street to the other gas station."
Comments on here are troubling.
"those that would give up liberty for security deserve neither." -100 dolla' bill
The "back story" is that some Greenwood cops hate Jelani Barr because he is a police watchdog and regularly criticizes police misconduct when he sees it.
So this is just payback.
Which means it's just another police crime acted out on tape.
Why is he walking upon the crime scene with a cell phone video taping other people anyway. Did he just decide, I'll just walk to the store and video tape everything. We are not that stupid.
The video is very suspect. He was saying negative things about the police before they even said anything to him.
You know what, he can say whatever the hell he wants. I personally don't appreciate the guy, because I think he is a douch, but this GPD response is pig crap (pun intended). Sure, he was a BIT provocative, but he didn't deserve that BS reaction.
3:30 you're wrong. But pointing out your mistake(s) would be a futile exercise.
I wonder if the people who post here for the sole purpose of pointing out what other people post take the time to comprehend what was actually said, instead of what they think.
Loiter: to stand or wait around idly or without apparent purpose.
Simple point is he went "on the scene" to push the limits. He could have made the video from a distance with no problem. NOTHING has been mentioned (here) about his right to video the police.
Didn't this guy just cry about some black highway patrolman in Holmes county being too rough on him? There's a difference between a watchdog and an agitator, and he's the later.
On the bright side, each run in with the law gets him 10,000 votes in the Democratic primary.
Maybe somebody should interview the store OWNER and get the real story. Or, just keep making crap up.
8:fiddy sumpin
. NOTHING has been mentioned (here) about his right to video the police.
Tree:terdy

Once again, I'm not a fan of this jackwagon, BUT he should not have been subjected to this , while walking away.
PS: the soup comment verification is HARD, beer ID is easier.
Can you believe some on here actually believe the po-po can detain, sanction or harrass you for filming them in the course of their duty (without redress)?
Methinks with proper legal assistance Mr. Barr might have the makings of a generous campaign donation from the carrier for the City of Greenwood PD.
Just because it's legal, it doesn't make it right. He was clearly starting trouble.
Right, wrong, whatever. Go looking for trouble and find it and then complain about it. The American way of life.
This guy is a delusional loose cannon that constantly interjects himself into situations where he can complain about the police. I'm sure the police are absolutely sick of having to deal with him. That's what you don't see on this video. There should be a way the police can get a restraining order against publicity seekers such as this.
I think the bigger issue here is the cops falsifying their police reports to reflect criminal behavior. If they can do it to this guy they can do it to you.
I don't know Mr. Barr and if I did, I might not would like him, but those of you attacking Mr. Barr to defend the police actions in this situation are dangerously ignorant!
If being an irritating troublemaker were a crime, you'd all be in jail!
