State Auditor Stacey Pickering issued the following press release:
Tommy Robertson Indicted On Five Counts Of Embezzlement
JACKSON-
State Auditor Stacey Pickering and Jackson County District Attorney
Tony Lawrence announced today that former State Senator Tommy Robertson
has been indicted on five counts of embezzlement, which are alleged to
have occurred in April of 2013. Robertson, 59, is accused of using his
position as board attorney for the Singing River Federal Credit Union to
embezzle $484,092 of loan proceeds which he held in trust for the
purpose of distributing the funds in accordance with the applicable loan
statements.
The
Office of the State Auditor received a request from the Jackson County
District Attorney’s Office to provide assistance to the Jackson County
Sheriff’s Office investigation of this alleged embezzlement.
Robertson surrendered himself to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and was released on $50,000 bond.
State Auditor Stacey Pickering stated, “In
joining the Jackson County Sheriff’s office and the District Attorney’s
office in this investigation, we once again show the positive results
of teamwork and cooperation on matters such as this. While these are
unfortunate situations, we at the State Auditor’s Office work tirelessly
to ensure that individuals who break the law are held accountable.”
District
Attorney Tony Lawrence stated, “The indictment is an allegation of
criminal wrongdoing, but under our law, the Defendant is innocent until
proven guilty at a trial of this cause. My office will continue to work
with the State Auditor’s Office and the Jackson County Sheriff’s
Department to prevent, investigate, and prosecute allegations involving a
violation of the public trust.”

Must be the water in Jackson County that is breeding such a strong crop of crooks recently. Other indictments are rumored to be in the works.
Another Republican scandal.
ok...WHICH party is he identified with?
Usually if it's republican, there will be a BIG R by the name...
At this point nobody should be surprised that a Haley Barbour crony has been caught with their hand dipping into a cash register.
didn't this guy get a dui or two while in office?
Wonder if the SRFCU is affiliated with the SRHS in any way? This crooked Col.Reb attorney's actions are probably covered by a title policy or E&O insurance I would think. Robertson got in a little trouble on the Ole Ms. campus at a football game a few years back. He and his friend, Jack Daniels, got a little too rowdy.
Never let a Lawyer near money
Not another one of Haley's butt boys arrested?

What is it with lawyers and other folks money?
I really don't understand comments such as "another Republican scandal" or attempts to connect the wrong doings of one person to another person just because the accused happened to be a political supporter of that person. Criminals don't follow one party line or the other. And no politician should be expected to vouch of the integrity of every person he encounters in his political career. Why do you people try SO HARD to discredit people? If you had ANY valid evidence whatsoever against the person of the political party you are trying to tarnish, you wouldn't HAVE to work so hard. I just don't get it. What do you GET out of it?
Let's hope the good people of Jackson County learn from all this turmoil and refuse to elect another Barbour-style control oriented politician like Frank Corder.
White collar thug.
This guy wasn't a Haley Barbour guy. He was elected to the Senate before Haley even thought about Governor. He was an Amy Tuck chairman but more than that just a bad seed. Can't blame anyone else for his troubles.
Where is Chris Anderson??? ......... His day is coming
Speaking of which; Where are Miz Tuck and that Truck? Still suckin' that MSU non-job-tit?
What? WHAT? While in the Senate Robertson drove a tanker truck of water for Haley Barbour and after he lost his bid for re-election was handsomely rewarded with a $1.2 MILLION dollar contract for Katrina administrative work by Haley Barbour's MDA. Please don't waste our time saying that Tommy Robertson wasn't a Haley Barbour koolaid drinker and crony.
Wonder how much of that Katrina money he made off with. At least as much as Haley's minority-business-owner relative.
"The Mississippi Ethics Commission considered investigating the $1.2 million contract with Robertson, Rep. Jim Beckett, R-Bruce, and Rep. Jim Simpson, R-Gulfport, and whether the three legislators had violated laws in taking the MDA contracts in 2007.
But committee members appointed by Barbour and the Republican lieutenant governor successfully ended the investigation." How many have benefitted from Ole Fat A$$ Barbour's total control of the disbursement of money to the connected cronies thru MDA? Ex-Senator Tommy Robertson is just the latest to be exposed for who he really is. Billy Boy Hughes, PhilBilly, Puh-la$$-o, Josh "Emergency" Gregory, Ole Joe Cloyd are just a few more. All need to be investigated by the Feds!!!!!!
Let me hep you out there 10:30pm.
You don't have to be a fresh boss hogg creation to earn the title boss hogg butt boy.
When boss hogg comes to town shoveling the money and the contracts theres only one place to put your face to get your own piece of the deal.
So if they got the taxpayer green in the pocket and the boss's brown on the face then there ain't no doubt what they are.
If the bosses had to make all their toadies and butt boyz from scratch it would be just about impossible to get a machine rolling before the term limit kicked in.
But somehow no matter who is governor there is never a lack of butt boy and girl wannabees.
Well said - 4:23. And 1030 is also on the mark. Some folks consider this site only a place to "anonymously" spout off their political hate of any individual that they don't always agree with.
In this case - you don't like Robertson, who the post was about - say so. But just because he was Chairman of a major committee in the State legislature while Barbour was Gov doesn't make him a BBB. Any more than the other 25 Senators that supported those same legislative actions.
You want to attack Barbour - I wouldn't disagree anytime you did so when the post was about him. Same for all the others. But you are dragging yourself and the blog down with your continued attempt to try to attack the same old folks, most of whom have gone out of the public sector long ago.
And, BTW, this credit union has nothing to do with the hospital, for those of you that are trying to make that connection. SR hospital is going to give plenty to talk about on its on, but this credit union deal has not connection.
