Election night thread.

Election night blogging from last night:
8:55: Fitch up statewide 55-45, 31,586 to 25,650. I think this will hold up. She improved from 47% in Madison County to 60%. Harkins is losing by 400 votes with 68% counted. McKinley won by 154 votes over Louvier. Marsha Weems Stacey beat Weber 54-46 by 337 votes.

8:42:
Houston loses!!! Just wow. 55-45 Tucker. I didn't expect it and I don't think anyone did. He beat Houston 5,610-4,440. Barbour 1789 to 1178 in Hinds. By my calculations, Longwitz wins by 220 votes BUT I do not think that includes affidavits and absentee ballots. In other words, the next few days will be fun.

8:37:
#20 in Madison. Ross goes ahead by 291-243. Expected Harkins to do better here. 1 precinct left. 6 boxes still out on Sheriff's race. 100% of Madison boxes counted in 25. Longwitz won with 57% of the vote, an improvement from his 54% showing in the primary: 3,067-2,247. Question is what happened in Hinds. I thought Longwitz needed 60% in Madison to win the race.

8:30:
85% of precincts in in Madison and Tucker is killing Houston with a 59-41 lead of 1,174 votes. Wow. Just wow. No one expected this. Foreman KO's Norton in first round. 9/14 in and Longwitz has a 57.3-42.5 lead over Barbour in Madison only. Lead is 530 votes. WLBT has Barbour with a lead of 51-49: 3,052-2,948. 2,043-1,513 in Madison so Hinds must be heavily included in the totals 6,000 overall, 3,556 from Madison).

8:25:
7 precincts in in Madison and Longwitz has a 507 vote lead with 50% of the precincts counted: 58.3-41.6%. Sheriff: WOW!!! Tucker kicking the hell out of Houston: 60-40 with 67% of the Precincts in- 949 vote lead. Harkins up by 22 votes with 4/9 precincts counted. McKinley 5 votes ahead of Louvier with 3/9 precincts counted. Marsha Weems Stacey is up by a 2:1 margin with 10/14 counted. Ouch. Advertising on JJ did pay off for her.

8:20:
30% in and Charlie has 167 vote lead. Still only one reporting in Madison so must be Hinds. Fitch up 59-41 over Yancey statewide with a 2,692 vote lead.

8:15:
26% of Precincts in in #25 race according to WLBT. Barbour has 179 vote lead over Longwitz but must be Hinds precincts as only one Madison precinct is in. I expect Barbour to get 70% in Hinds this time around. Question is whether he can improve in Madison.

Madison:
25% of Precincts in. Tucker up by 422 votes at 75%. 1 Precinct in, Barbour up by 8 votes over Longwitz. Harkins up by 7 votes in 1 out of 9 precincts in. 10 precincts in and Fitch is at 60% but its only a margin of 160 votes. Dupree has 90% of the vote with 10 precincts counted.

Hinds: Where the heck is it on the website?

Rankin: nothing worth reporting.

Statewide: Fitch at 66% with a 2:1 lead in votes.

Dog pound: Reporting 50%, votes 1 for Houston. Beagle apparently started to vote and then a bird caught its attention. Rumor has it time still left to vote. Bird shot.

Tucker up big

WLBT still has a wrong posting. They are showing Senate race District 20 as MADISON County instead of Rankin. I called 'em. Still wrong.

Randy Tucker should hold his victory party at Haute Pig Restaurant!!!

Never underestimate a built-in campaigning force. Tucker had this advantage within the Department. They worked their asses off as if there job(s) depended upon it. Not one singular event or dirty campaigning decided this race by such a margin. Simple, hard work and relentless campaigning. I am not surprised at the outcome.

Lets see how many folks, besides FOP, in Madison agree.

Anonymous said...

That ass, Gerald Barber, wrote a letter to the editor of the Clarion-Ledger endorsing Jimmy Houston. Yet another reason I am SO glad Jimmy Houston lost.

Anonymous said...

Sheriff Tucker. Prayers answered!

Anonymous said...

KF do we have to deal with the FOP that are going to obviously gloat?

Tucker wins. End of it. Pray no one else hangs themselves in the MadCo jail after a night of living hell courtesy of lack of oversight and abuse. Investigated, never published.

AP calls it for Lynn Fitch!

while i supported Jimmy Houston not a sore loser congratulation to the tucker campaign.

Gives those that fought hard for thier Sheriff's Office credit. They work hard for the people and at a high standard. Houston's camp worked hard also- to his credit he does have a long successful career but just not the right fit for the Sheriff's Office. Good luck to Sheriff Tucker (assuming the win in the general election) and keep the standards high.

MCSO race was decided tonight. The candidate i supported lost my vote in the general election will now be with Tucker.

Take a look at the paltry Dem turnout Dorsey. YOU ARE SCREWED.

Anonymous said...

Poor Luckett ,

He really needs to go have a beer with the former Hinds County Sheriff and ponder about how and why
White Democrats are rapidly becoming extinct.

We tried to tell them that they were were approaching
dinosaur status.

Neither would listen.

Kingfish? No update in almost an hour. How about some update?

Of course, your reports that are an hour late will still be ahead of the Clarion Ledger.

DuPree won. Get ready to hear alllll about Reverend Fairley.

Hello Governor Bryant.

Anonymous said...

Congrats, Josh!

Anonymous said...

Having DuPree on top of the ballot will hurt GOP chances of taking House and in some senate races-Buck Clark, Greg Snowden, Bill Denny, and not to mention Dick Hall.

Anonymous said...

As I predicted, Charles B. looses. GOP voters are smarter than all the lame pathetic antics! I hope future candidates take note.

Anyone know the results for Louvier vs. McKinley race for Madison Co. Justice Court?

Curt Crowley said...

Any word where Jimmy Houston will be throwing his tantrum tonight?

McKinley wins by 310.

Kapt --

I haven't been right about much this election season except for this: The days of the Southern white Democrat are over.

Our state was just the last of the old Confederacy to get the memo.

Dems in the South have been puppets of the NAACP for 20 years. Guess what, crackers: you're no better than Republicans to the people who control your party now.

And I am laughing my ass off right now. You became Marxists with them, then they figured out they had numbers on you. You people are so high-minded and progressive.

And you still don't get it. That's the beauty of it all. BIG gut-laugh at white Democrats. You're worthless, and your voted now officially count for shit.

I'Ll giggle myself to sleep tonight over this...and YO Sheriff. Sweet dreams.

Trish i do expect you to post something congratulating the Tucker campaign and not being a sore loser like you know who.

Shadowfax said...

Barber and a few others are scrambling to find a Tucker yard sign this morning.

I missed a few predictions but nailed this one. Congratulations to Houston for being a stand up candidate who fought a good contest. I guarantee you all that good law enforcement in Madison county is way more important than which horse in the Barbour-Dent stable winds up in which statewide office.

Houston was camping out downtown outside the PERS building. First in line for retirement papers this morning.

Anonymous said...

KF, can we re post Shadowfax's brother again?

Anonymous said...

Wonder if he'll have bah bah q for lunch?

ZeusOfTheZebco said...

Where oh where is BassMaster Houston? No gracious concession speech or congratulations to Tucker?

Anonymous said...

What will Trish and Brad do now, not meaning that in a sarcastic way?

Cartman said...

Me predicts Brad Harbour will go to work as an Investigator at Ridgeland PD for Houston, right after Houston un-resigns from his fake resignation and the Board of Aldermen un-accept (wink, wink) his resignation as chief.

They can console each other every day about how bad the Fraternal-Order-of-Madison-County-Deputies-Who-Think-Houston-is-a-Tool screwed them over.

Anonymous said...

You got the current chief of RPD that endorsed Tucker. Just a weird all around situation for both Houston and Harbour. Credit to both of them for standing up and doing what they believe in along with the hard work they have put in, even though i voted for Tucker good evening has calvin lee would say.

Is KF alive or did Houston send him swimming with the fishes? We need analysis.

You know 'Fish has something up his sleeve.....

Then candidate Barack Hopey Dopey, July 3, 2008:

"The problem is, is that the way Bush has done it over the last eight years is to take out a credit card from the Bank of China in the name of our children, driving up our national debt from $5 trillion for the first 42 presidents - #43 added $4 trillion by his lonesome, so that we now have over $9 trillion of debt that we are going to have to pay back -- $30,000 for every man, woman and child. That's irresponsible. It's unpatriotic."

Anonymous said...

Any word on who Tucker has lined up for chief?

KaptKangaroo said...

Actually, just spoke to KF and he is laying low. It was a late night with all the great partners here; blog taking a hiatus for a bit. Stay tuned, and in the infamous words of DWF, look out for what is up his sleeve...

Shadowfax said...

Since Houston is returning to Ridgeland PD, perhaps Belvedresi will return to MCSO. If I misspelled his name, I apologize, before some junior anon jumps my spelling.

Anonymous said...

We could only hope so! He made a mistake but I can tell you for a fact that he did more good than harm for the department over the years. He is truely a good person. If you don't know him and have the opportunity to meet him you will not be disappointed. Micah should even give him a second chance or vice versa.

Anonymous said...

Is Houston returning to Ridgeland PD? Does that mean his Hatch Act resignation was a sham?

Marsha said...

Thanks to Kingfish and all of the JJ readers for your support and your votes. I look forward to serving Madison County in the courtroom.

Marsha Weems Stacey

Shadowfax said...

Anon 7:53; don't know if you have access to a television or not; but, both the mayor and Houston were interviewed by Bert and the mayor said he'd like to have him back and would recommend him to the board. And Houston, when asked if he was returning, answered, "I hope so."

There is still the minimal glare of the Hatch Act violation; however, when it was brought to his attention, he resigned, thus not furthering the violation. The feds prosecute Hatch Act violations and they'd have to decide if his pre-resignation actions constitute something worthy of pursuing ~ I doubt it, especially since the man resigned his position.

And, no 7:53 anon; his resignation was not a sham. It was required of him if he was to continue his campaign for sheriff.

Although I did not vote for Houston, I am of the opinion that it was a chicken-shit move on the part of whoever the junior-lightweight was that turned him in for the apparent violation.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.

Sonjay Poontang and his band headline the night with a special steel cage, no time limit "loser must leave town" bout between Alan Lange and "Big Cat"Donna Ladd following afterwards. Kamikaze will perform his new song F*** Bush, he's still a _____. Did I mention there was no referee? Dr. Heddy Matthias and Lori Gregory will face off in the undercard dueling with dangling participles and other um, devices. Robbie Bell will perform Her two latest songs: My Best Friends are in the Media and Mama's, Don't Let Your Babies Grow up to be George Bell. Sid Salter of The Clarion-Ledger will host "Pin the Tail on the Trial Lawyer", sponsored by State Farm.

There will be a hugging booth where in exchange for your young son, Frank Melton will give you a loooong hug.
