JJ blew it

We don't hide mistakes or corrections at JJ and this time will be no exception. Just to drive that point home, the rest of this post will be published in bold lettering.

The other night I posted there would be a runoff in the Sheriff's race. I was not repeating idle gossip or uninformed speculation but had no less than three very good sources who had been right on other matters before. It came down to a judgment call similar to the one made when Frank Melton died and JJ had received very credible information about his passing when no official word had been published. I made the decision to make the post. My sincere apologies to anyone in either of the campaigns who was upset by the post then or upset now to realize it was made in error. I'm leaving the comments open as I when I make a mistake, I have no problems taking my ass-whupping.

Mr. Lewis will be certified the winner tomorrow and JJ is sure this will be a very interesting week where the Sheriff's race is concerned.

Tyrone 'I want to be YO sheriff' Lewis might be illegally certified tomorrow. I hope enough people in Hinds County stand up and call foul. I heard the same as you KF - then they started finding ballots in the hall, in opened boxes, etc. Suddenly there is a machine that had not been counted. This is the biggest joke of an election I've ever seen in my life. Might as well live in Africa by the way things were done downtown. TLewis will NEVER be MY sheriff. He can be YO sheriff. Hinds is going down the tubes. it won't take YO sheriff long to be indicted for something - mark my words.

You were working with good information KF - then the crooks took over.

I'm confused as to why his idiot son's twitter comments haven't been investigated by election officials?

Your prediction in this matter wasn't quite as whacked out as the video you posted in 'my honor'. But, everybody makes at least three mistakes per year. You have one left.

Where do we line up to kiss the KF Ring?

KaptKangaroo said...

Expect nothing less. Kudos!

Shadow, you already spent your three whatever you think you have. Forget the ring, there is another object more appropriate.

Kappan sez, genuflecting to kiss the, ah, ring.

It is still hard, even in 2011, for a white man to concede defeat to a black man in Mississippi.

No problem, Kingfish. You had a chance for a pretty good scoop and you took the risk. It works for you more often than not because you do your homework and have the sense to figure things out pretty well. I would rather read the work of someone who takes risks and is wrong every once in a while than read the same old humdrum from the hacks who stay in the middle and report the same old tripe. Refreshing to see someone accountable. Are you from this planet, KF?

Anonymous said...

KF, it is so refreshing to read someone admit an error.
I am, however, a bit concerned about the rather serious accusations that were made and reported to you.
Does the certification mean that these charges were simply without any factual basis?
If the people at the precinct did their job adequately, it seems they are owed an apology by those making wild accusations that fueled the fire of racism as 10:28's comments make clear.
I would also remind everyone that we just had a group of white teens kill a black man for sport in Hinds county. It's all caught on a chilling security video tape that has now made national news.
It would be wise for the 10:28s of our community ( and Madison/Rankin) to tone it down and ask themselves how it is teenagers in this community thought that might be something they should do.

why is everyone thinking its Lewis that is "finding" more ballots? He's already got enough to win. So.........

8:50AM Forget an apology, it is still a flippin' mess downtown. Did you even bother watching the film?

Kingfish said...

Yet you say nothing about all the black on black crime in Jackson such as the murder at the Shell station or the murder of the Lanier football player.

I'm not making any other apologies as the videotapes speak for themselves. Period.

Anderson said...

Ah, bummer. Probably a tough runoff for Mac to win anyway. Thanks for the correction, KF!

Shadowfax said...

8:50 sez, "If the people at the precinct did their job adequately, it seems they are owed an apology by those making wild accusations..."

8:50, if you can read at all and have vision correctable to at least 20:80, you should be able to ascertain (without a roadmap) that many parts of the process were bungled. The only question, which will forever remain unanswered, is, how much, if any of it at all, was intentional and by design. Maybe none ~ maybe some ~ maybe a helluva lot.

Regarding your 'sport killing remark', that seems to go on in Jackson quite a bit. And as unfortunate, even insane, as each of them is, there seems to be no pattern suggesting less of it on the horizon.

Best of luck, Godspeed, good fortune and prayers for the new sheriff in helping to get a handle on it. We cannot move forward with nabobs chanting about whitey or blackie and high-fiving or shooting birds beyond about the next day or so. After a reasonable period of celebration and morning, two days I suggest, it's time to get down to the nut-cuttin' of solving issues. And that means drilling till root causes are exposed, admitted and dealt with.

8:50, I know there is the trendy Jackson intelligentsia and then everyone else (mostly a bunch of squares trying to raise families, gag!) but just for the record, people in Madison are scared of rednecks in Rankin, too.

It'll be business as usual, Shadowfax. Nothing new will happen, and nothing will improve.

"Yet you say nothing about all the black on black crime in Jackson such as the murder at the Shell station or the murder of the Lanier football player.

Maybe because there is a huge difference between a racially motivated or bias motivated hate crime and crimes surrounding drugs, domestic relations, etc.

Your inability and unwillingness to make that distinction is bothersome to say the least.

Shadowfax said...

2:04; Are you clairvoyant or has someone at WLBT slipped you inside information suggesting the runover of the black man by the white dood was NOT drug related and was for certain racially motivated?

And what background do you have that would allow you expert status on hate crimes, whether domestic outbursts are hate crimes or whether drug crimes gone bad are hate crimes? It would be easier on all of us if you were to simply out yourself and admit you play the race card as often as you piss.

Anonymous said...

Incidentally, what exactly IS a hate crime? Is that when someone more detrimental, but also more politically valuable, to society is harmed by someone less detrimental, but also less politically valuable, to society? I'm confused.......

Curt Crowley said...

Shadow, WLBT link re: racial motivation is above. You probably hadn't seen it when you made your comment, as it was only about an hour old.

It's only an allegation by the State, but the allegation was in fact made.

Anonymous said...

I guess you would now revise your comments of 4:25 pm now, shadow?

Anon 6:37: hate crimes are defined by statute. Wikipedia has a pretty good explanation.

KF - if you didn't have the hate crime information when you made your comments this morning then your statement is forgivable.

I had the pleasure of spending an afternoon in " COOL"
"PROGRESSIVE" , " QUIRKY " . " HIP '.....
Fondren this afternoon.

The well fed "homeless" dudes panhandling everywhere
was damn scary .

Shadowfax said...

No revision is deserved and none will be made. I saw the WLBT story and had already read their FACEBOOK 'gas tossing' remarks followed now by a hundred posts. One would have thought Jerry Mitchell or Minor had written the LBT story. Neither the prosecutor babbling in the media about 'hate crimes' nor WLBT repeating it establishes as fact that a 'hate crime' was committed. Perhaps it's lost on a few of you, but, that sort of thing gets sorted out in court, not in the media and not behind the D.A.'s microphone.

Perhaps one of the mystery 'anons' will take time to explain why the Rankin Redneck running over the black man should get more attention, action, coverage and response than all the black on black cap poppin' that occurs as a daily matter of course.

And take a moment to explain this comment made above, "Maybe because there is a huge difference between a racially motivated or bias motivated hate crime and crimes surrounding drugs, domestic relations, etc."

What is the 'huge difference'? Do you suggest it's somehow more offensive to society if a man of one race offs a man of another race than it is if a street urchin looking for drug money offs a guard at the local service station?

Big time kudos to you Kingfish for setting the record straight. Your correction and apology immediately reminded me of the time that Ladd thought she was breaking the story of Melton's impending death when he wasn't actually dying. She never issued anywhere near as clear and precise an explanation as you are providing above let alone provide an apology. Again, kudos to you. The Jackson area is blessed to have a journalist of your integrity working here.

"Perhaps one of the mystery 'anons' will take time to explain why the Rankin Redneck running over the black man should get more attention, action, coverage and response than all the black on black cap poppin' that occurs as a daily matter of course."

Shadowfax - it's simple.

Dog bites man: not news.

Man bites dog: news.

Think about it.

Kingfish said...

1. I think all crimes are hate crimes. You bash my head in with a lead pipe, I'm going to feel just as bad if you did it for money or because of who I am. Having said that, I have serious questions if this is a hate crime because

2. If you do favor hate crimes prosecutions, you have to ask if this was indeed a hate crime when you have evidence they were doing the same thing to white kids. There is video of him intentionally hitting a white kid at BHS with his truck and there have been other reports of them terrorizing white kids in the community. I think they were probably equal opportunity haters and thugs.

And for the record if they did it, fry Dedmonds. I'll even flip the switch. Oh yeah, its a shot now, too bad.

He's going to have to argue the "just a kid and an inexperienced driver who lost control of a truck that was too big for him while he was trying to show off for the girls" defense. Otherwise, he gets life.

Mandatory per the JFP style guide:

a] Black on white violent crime = never report

b] Black on black violent crime = never report unless it presents 1) an opportunity for a trite teachable moment column, 2) an opportunity to harangue the Clarion-Ledger and/or evil unnamed anonymous bloggers, or 3) an opportunity to blame Haley Barbour and going forward Phil Bryant

c] White on white violent crime = never report unless it involves domestic abuse against women and only if a direct Chick Ball connection and financial solicitation is possible

d] White on black violent crime = always report, all of the time and find a race angle even if one doesn't exist

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
