I can’t watch this, I’m sick about this already. My son is at Ole Miss and he told me that this had happened. My heart breaks for this young man and his family. There’s no excuse for this and I hope the perpetrators are punished to the full extent of the law.

Now, let's sit back and see if any of the mainstream news investigates this. The clock is ticking.

For those who don’t know: Ole Miss doesn’t publicize attacks on campus unless forced to. That includes rape. This is done on purpose. They do not want anyone to know and it helps with their image. Obviously the local media is in on it as well cause they could. I was told this a few years ago by, well let’s say, I very high elected official in the area. Who would send their child to a school if they didn’t think it was safe? I’m sure this happens at other institutions of higher learning as well. The Clery Act requires colleges that take fed aid to report certain crimes but….look it up. It’s not always followed.

I cannot find anything about this on the OPD website or FB page or in the Oxford Eagle website or FB page. Can someone post a link to information about this?

I’m horrified and speechless to see this. We are supposed to be a civil society but this is far from civility. It’s not close to funny. What can we do to help the injured now deceased young man’s family? I hope JJ will keep us up to date on this.

I am an alumnus of Ole Miss of many years ago. I joined what was considered the premier fraternity. Within weeks, i was in disbelief of the childish nature of the entire system. You were supposed to accumulate 50 pledge points to qualify for initiation by numerous acts of ass kissing.. The night of admission to the royal order, I had minus 51 pledge points. Some for threatening a table of actives with an ass whipping if they disturbed my lunch one more time. I left the system with one big "up your ass" and never looked back.

I consider my years at the school one of the low points of my life.

I have an 8 figure estate. That institution will not get one cent.

This is the end result of pay to play drinking clubs on campus masquerading as community service organizations.

These weak and feeble little boys most likely have not accomplished anything in their life. Hope they made their grandparents, parents, and siblings happy.

This horrible attack did not happen on the campus. It happened outside a local bar. The victim was jumped as he was leaving. This is matter for the Oxford Police Dept to handle. In no way is the University involved. This was a pure act of evil and shouldn’t be a bad reflection on the University or the Greek system! You can have your own opinions, but what I just stated are facts!

It looks like it was first injected about an hour and a half after the post went live, in a comment posted at 2:28 p.m. yesterday by someone calling himself "Anon-E-Mouse":

Others quickly responded to that statement of personal belief, both pro and con. A flurry of imaginary, self-proving scenarios quickly developed, such as:

I am a proud parent of an Ole Miss Kappa Sig! The victim was in his pledge class as a Freshmen. He is one the most respectable, smart, well-mannered, disciplined Senior political science major in his 4th year with the Mississippi National Guard who something like this should’ve never happened to. This was a crime of opportunity where alcohol & testosterone made this groups of kids attack him as he was leaving like a rabid pack of dogs instigating it all! I don’t know if it was to send a message or to prove their power, but it was uncalled for; & this young man did not deserve any of this, nor does the fraternity need to be affiliated with this incidence. There are always 2 sides to every story & then there’s the truth. Regarding all of the fraternity comments- Out of approx 400+ members, I’m not saying that there won’t be a few bad apples, but this young man is definitely one of the best of the best in our chapter! Maybe that’s why he was targeted; we will probably never know. He did a group video with some of the members on Monday to tell them that he is going to be ok. I can whole heartedly tell you anti-frat commentators, that you are so incorrect with some of your generalizations. It is a fact that this was an Ole Miss fraternity incident. All activities/pledgeships of Kappa Sigma are suspended. It is the culture of Ole Miss franerities. Drugs are rampant. it’s very sad. These young boys join these fraternities with bright futures and become alcoholic drug addicts. Parents, do not believe the university when they say there is no hazing allowed. Everyone of them(fraternities)haze. Sigma Nu needs to be exposed. Daddys money is protecting that one.

I have complete empathy for the victim/his family and expect full justice for him. Now that we have the FACTS, I have to point out this post was made with an agenda from the beginning - frying pan (hearsay), soldier (and...), honor roll (again, and...). Clicks, plain and simple! Sound like Ole Miss manages fraternity incidents just like University of Alabama. Hazing is rampant. Dozens of emergency room visits from burst eardrums to concussions. Not only does the University cover up all incidents—so do the pledges/actives and parents. There are parents who care more about their son being in a fraternity than they do about any of the hazing victims. Kids being drug across floors, thrown against walls, beaten up, forced to eat vomit, verbally abused, and the list goes on. While this particular incident was not one that falls under “hazing” it does fall under the acceptance of violent behavior in these fraternities. They are literally teaching 18 year olds to become future abusers by allowing and encouraging this behavior. The kids in the video filming clearly thought this behavior was ok.
