Sista Rukia and her cohorts are holding a mass rally for clean water in front of the Governor's Mansion in a few minutes.
Ms. Lumumba sent out this email today:
As Congress considers a new way to get much needed water infrastructure funds to Jackson, Mississippi, where decades of state neglect has created a crisis in access to safe water, residents will join a Moral Monday march in the state capital to demand solutions.
Under the banner of “Free the Land, Clean the Water, Keep It Public,” the Mississippi Poor People’s Campaign will lead the march, which begins at 4 p.m. CT on Monday, Sept. 26 ,at Mt. Helm Baptist Church, 300 E. Church St. Beginning at 4:30 p.m., people will march to the intersection of Capitol and Congress streets, where a rally begins at 5:30 p.m. CT.
Bishop William J. Barber II and Rev. Dr. Liz Theoharis, co-chairs of the Poor People’s Campaign: A National Call for Moral Revival, will join the march and rally. The live stream will be available here
At an online Moral Monday: Mississippi Voices on Sept. 12, residents talked about the pain of dealing with the water crisis. Many residents still rely on bottled water for basic hygiene such as bathing and brushing their teeth.
“My wife and I, we want to start growing our family,” Jackson resident Chris Ellis said during the program. “I know I don’t want to be bathing my babies in this.”
Actually, Ms. Lumumba, it was a decade of neglect not by the state, but by the city of Jackson, culminating in coverups and collapse under your brother's watch but the truth never got in your way before so why start telling the truth now.

Deflection - it's what libtards do.
Must be legit when they have all the "clergy" in attendance. What a clown show. But remember, when all y'all gather round, you gots to wear yo max's.
Give me an Fing break!!!
hey should be thanking Tate and his people for getting the COJ mess cleaned up...I hope that is what they are doing.
I can remember a time when nothing would have been scheduled at this time of day in downtown Jackson. MANY of us worked downtown and were ready to go home at 5 o’clock. Of course, that’s obviously no longer a problem.
Do they have a permit to block the road?
all i know they best not interfere me getting to the house this evening.
Trying to get National Media attention.
Jackleg festival, we don't need no stinking permits.
4:28, put up or shut up. And good luck when you are embroiled in the Hinds County judicial system.
“I know I don’t want to be bathing my babies in this.”
You live in Jackson and that is what you are worried about?
Lazy and stupid people with stupid ideas, once again wanting someone to take care of them....
In the 1700 & 1800's, these morons would have starved.......
Poor People's Campaign translates to "I'z wants somebody to takes care of me on your dime" Ahhhh, makes dat a quat'r, cause sometimes a dime bag ain't enuff!
We can only hope NO ONE is buying this load of bullshit.
actually, downtown has been bumping lately. new restaurants, new office tenants, low vacancies on apartments/condos, and the rent is high. also, the program waited to start until after 5 which was considerate.
Is anyone even downtown anymore? I haven't been in 2.5 years. Won't go back unless absolutely have to
Wait..what?
@5:08 PM - Thanks for checking in Chowke, or is this Safiya, or Rukia?
These people are firm believers in the squeaking wheel gets the grease.
This is the same situation as the screaming woman in Walmart, except on a much larger scale.
They should have been making this scene twenty years ago, but noooo they had to wait until the state had the neglected water plant repaired.
The sister is trying to cover for her boy's inadequate operation of the water system.
As Kim wade says check out precincts voting. If they are voting democratic you will have problems with public services.
Wow Poor timing.
5:20 YES! Here everyday.
What is your concern if you're not coming back.
5:08 while I agree with the big picture point of your post "downtown has been bumping lately. new restaurants, new office tenants, low vacancies on apartments/condos, and the rent is high"
BUT no courtesy was afforded in today's event. Everything was set up and blocked prior to our getting off of work. Perhaps they waited hoping that some of the downtown employees would join.
Ridiculous that they were allowed to block off a major city street when there are public meeting places such as the convention center.
"Free the Land, Clean the Water, Keep It Public"
Or, stated another way: Blame the State, Go to the Feds, Pocket the Money
They are protesting the man that fixed the water issue. Brilliant.
As Pink Floyd said in "Dogs,"......"You have to be trusted by the people that you lie to"
.....and this group fits the perfect profile of who the broadcast media WANT to believe. Forget the facts, they're just hopeful you'll join in their fantasy!
Wonder how long it took her to get a permit to block that CITY street. Bet it didn't go through the same process most people have to go through. And I'll also bet nobody will ever see the paperwork (or lack thereof) of that littkle process that hangs up all us little people.
Another good day to not be in Jackson, Governor.
They should be asking Uncle Joe for those $400 stacks he just sent to Ukraine for no apparent reason.
Resign, Chokwe, resign!!!
You noticed they waited until Tater got everything fixed before they started in on their marches. They should remember it doesn't take long before the water plant is a pile of junk again.
Pictures please! It will be same 20 protesters that get paid to show up with signs at every protest.
They know the money is about to flow and are desperate to get their hands on it.
For those that have the means to leave
but choose to stay ... I don't feel any sorrow.
The five or six still left on the fence,
should take Jenny's advice:
"Run Forrest Run !"
Don't you people get tired of your hateful echo chamber?
Progressives work to move forward and solve problems.
Meanwhile yall are here in your racist hugbox, sipping haterade and paying for Kingfish to lay around his house scanning through Grindr.
So I’m a NE Jackson resident and I find it humorous bc otherwise I’d be embarrassed that the sister of our stupid moron of a mayor is protesting what he is a cause of. Chokwe made a mess of this water and the garbage contract. He’s a total idiot and she’s dumber than he is
It was you progressives who blew up OBC. You crippled the water/sewer revenue with your Siemens deal, moratoriums (water is a human right, right), covered up EPA orders, and lied whenever the plant went offline (remember the electrical panel coverup?)
All you ever do is just throw out the hate label, much easier than trying to argue facts. So keep it up, you just make yourself look like a fool every time you start up your broken record.
9:03. Progressives can only solve problems with other people’s money. Hopefully you can get free water when this over! You surely deserve it!
By the way, remind me when Jackson had a Republican Mayor. Ever?
This guy can’t handle a crisis just like the 3 before him!
9:12 but it is alright if the Mayor of COJ was out of town or country when many boil water notices were in effect. Don’t blame the Governor as it is NOT his job to run the city. If he had gone in and let the STATE take over & given you what you wanted, you would still NOT be happy. Every city in the state contributes to the state and federal budget and yet you expect 90% of the REVENUE to go to Jackson while the Mayor chooses NOT to do his Job. This has NOTHING a to do with RACE. This is about lack of JOB Performace!
These folks are in the middle of a life of failures.
They failed to establish themselves in a decent city with a decent job.
Their elected officials failed them for years as they made certain their friends got all the coins from the city coin purse aile few coins went to the city.
For years and years, they failed to elect honest public officials, in stead put the same level of crooks in office time after time.
They failed to pay for their water as they should and no one ever turned their water off to ensure they paid for what they needed.
The few (Siemens) public works projects they experienced wound up being so crooked the city only fell deeper into the hole of failure. Even when they saw a vistory (Siemens Law suit settlement), someone else got most of the money.
The few rihts they deserved from government (Public safety, water, streets, trash collection) have all failed.
I could go on.
I can't blame them for having little or no hope.
It appears that none of these people in the non profit actually have a job. By the way yeah progressives move things forward 😂 they claim smart city… just no clean water at my house due to smart progressive leaders… even bill mahr thinks your morons now
Give it a break go back to your white liberal think tank
Democrats are losing the Hispanic vote and a
Percentage of
Black votes due to your progressiveness
Deflection - it's what libtards and progressives do when they aren't raising the race card or the victim card.
Paltry turnout. Total astroturf.
Remember the picture of the Mayor and his posse sitting around the table playing cards?
I'm guessing they weren't worried about water then.
O.B. was probably in good condition at that point.
Every one of the EPA demands on Jackson regarding the water system is a result, not of failure by the state, but failure of the city: “Failure to adequately staff water treatment plants with Class A operators.
Failure to implement an Alternative Water Supply Plan.
Failure to comply with the timeline for general filter rehabilitation.
Failure to install corrosion control pursuant to the Lead and Copper Rule.
Exceedance of the haloacetic acids maximum containment level.
Exceedance of turbidity limits.”
The mayor wants to keep control of the water system, but wants to blame the state for the city’s failure. The state didn’t fail to hire and maintain competent staff, or fail to implement a alternative water plan, etc. The mayor wants control of the water system. But under the current mayor, more money won’t solve the problems. New facilities won’t solve the problem. New systems will fail in time for the same reasons the current system failed, lack of competence and willful neglect by the current mayor and his cronies. He dresses well, but he remains an empty suit. Now the question is whether the feds will play politics because the mayor is a Democrat, or will they seriously act to force the city to actually make the necessary response to the identified failures.
“A great day, not to be in Jackson”
This is why TANF Tate is losing the PR battle.
Blame the mayor for the garbage fiasco, that’s 100% his doing.
"Progressives work to move forward and solve problems."
Problems they deliberately create, because they have no actual ability or talent to do anything else really. It's all show business, produced and financed by taxpayers.
Jamie,
Shut the fuck up white boy
Thanks,
-The real voting citizens of Jackson
Perhaps the sister needs a civics 101 remedial course. It’s the CITY that has responsibility for the water. Not the state. The state/ Governor cannot run the water department for every community. It’s her brother and her father that have failed the citizens. She’s now involved because she wants her hands on the millions coming to fix the issue. Just like she did with the garbage disaster.
@5:35
That’s the most ignorant comment of the year so far. Do you own any stock in tech companies like Google, Facebook, Tesla, etc? Have you ever heard of SpaceX? All progressives! Tell us about your billion dollar achievements, mister Ayn Randian conservative genius!
Lets just ask a certain former USM quarterback to get the money to fix the water. He's good at getting federal funds for worthy projects.
Google, Facebook are nothing more than intelligence agency's operations to spy on the American people.
7:37
tell the class some more of how you don't know what progressivism is.
"where decades of state neglect has created a crisis in access to safe water"
Decades of state neglect ? State neglect ? This is the CITY OF JACKSON water system which the Mayor has made clear is the City's not the State's. Hell even the Mayor himself has repeatedly acknowledged that there have been decades of neglect by the CITY, although of course he notes it was neglect by prior administrations and not his. It cannot be sincerely disputed that the CITY has failed to maintain the plant, failed to have the required number of employees/staff, etc...Those are the CITY's responsibilities and the CITY's failure to live up to those responsibilities. Why was this rally not held in front of City Hall ?
I do not hate Jackson, I do not hate the residents of Jackson, and I do not hate the Mayor. But, like most people, I'm sick and tired of the CITY trying to blame anyone other than itself for this problem. Man up, take responsibility, and quit trying to blame everyone except the CITY. Those who keep trying to blame the State for this issue are either delusional or dishonest, and neither is a good quality to have.
Community organizers are good at winning press conferences, but you see when it comes to actual results that none of them know how to do the work to fix problems. For 5 years, the Mayor was great at explaining the water plant issues, yet was too lazy or too incompetent to roll up his sleeves and go to work.
@8:13
Progressivism is a way of thinking that holds that it is possible through political action for human societies to improve over time. As a political movement, progressivism purports to advance the human condition through social reform based on advancements in science, technology, economic development and social organization.Adherents to this way of thinking hold that progressivism has universal application and endeavour to spread this idea to human societies everywhere. Progressivism arose during the Age of Enlightenment out of the belief that civility in Europe was improving due to the application of new empirical knowledge to the governance of society.
Okay. Go ahead and tell us your ignorant trailer park definition, Cletus.
Ayn Rand lived her entire life on social welfare. Just like you and your neighbors in the Niknar Mobile Home Court.
So, the state has maintained every other water system in the state except Jackson’s? Wait, have they propped up ANY water system in the state? I thought all water systems were run as enterprises dependent on water fees for operations and maintenance of the system. What has the state got to do with any of this?
The truth has no defense against a fool so determined to believe a lie.
Is there a way just to give the city all the money they say the need. Then make them sign a document that they won't blame the state when it all goes to hell again.
To reemphasize: From the very first line of her remarks..."decades of state neglect". I read no further after the first line. If you start a speech with a lie, why listen to the rest of it?
A public records request will reveal that there was NO permit applied for nor granted to block Capitol Street for this, ah, event. Once again we're reminded that this regime is immune from the laws and regulations that apply to (most of) the rest of us.
But Wait: When you own the process and would be responsible for both application and granting approval, you can easily backdate and sign a permit.
What a joke !
Looks like the Family Hustle business is in full motion. This stupid ass is following along right in line with the family motto- It is your fault for my stupidity and incompetence, now pay me.
It looks like the "Poor People" can afford stage and sound and the permit fee to block off a city street.
Oh the irony.
Stay classy Jackson.
Why not years of "federal government neglect?" Oh wait, that would reflect negatively on the Joe Xiden and Nobama administrations, right?
Will they hold a march? Oh, I hope they do hold a march. So much gets done just by these people holding one of their marches.
8:29 You do a great job of describing what those "educated" individuals who call themselves progressive would like to be. Those literate types who call themselves conservative also have a wonderful philosophy to claim when describing themselves. It's all classroom bullshit. All of it has been co-opted by bigots and radical wing-nuts whose movements are too crazy or backwards to run any orderly society. Progressive? If they can't get the job done, they are regressive, not progressive, no matter their good intentions.
7:39 thinks since Bret stole money its fair for Rukia to steal.
Those of us with a brain want Bret in jail and Rukia's theft to be prevented.
I get why the politicians want to keep stealing. But I don't get the taxpayers that want to make it ok for this politician to steal now because someone on the other political team stole then?
As a tax payer that is screwed by BOTH, I personally just want all the theft to stop.
The defending the criminal that wears your colors game is so odd to me.
Lumumba is no more progressive than he is MAGA Republican.
He's just a fast-talking hustler who rode his daddy's coattails into office.
State neglect? The State of Mississippi has not been running the City of Jackson's water department or treatment facilities. The City of Jackson has neglected this, not the State! These people are protesting the man that saved the system! Are they all taking crazy pills?
7:31
Tell us who you take in booth to es'plain which circle to color in!!
Cause if you're one of the 20K real voters, then you're not that smart.
March down to OB Curtis see who is doing the real work!
Funny how not a single one of you ignorant hayseeds could give a definition of Progressivism. Pathetic!
3:32 Progressivism: The bottom line is that there is no bottom line.
Haha at 3:32 (same one who posted 7:37 & 8:29)... Who is desperately seeking relevance and attention from others unlike he/she/it. Like the schoolyard kid that says "I know I am but what are you?...nah nah nah nah nah nah!!" Very insecure & unable to fit in.. Childlike.
5:42 PM
Being unable to explain or define your beliefs is far more childish.
Kingfish sure can’t handle the truth. What a total cuck! Do you really think bending the knee is going to save you from being deplatformed and humiliated by Derrick Johnson?
They should have been marching on Jackson's city hall, or wherever the mayor's office is located.
