Medical marijuana supporters submitted a petition to place medical marijuana referendum on the ballot in Ridgeland.
Ridgeland Municipal clerk Paula Tierce certified the petition on September 14. The certificate states 3,060 signatures were submitted with the petition. 734 signatures were verified. The clerk disqualified 385 signatures because they were not verified and 1,941 signatures because the signatories were not registered voters of Ridgeland.
The petition is on the agenda for Tuesday night's meeting of the Board of Ealdormen.
The petition needed 1,500 signatures to qualify for the ballot.

lol they all high, most of the signatures are from Jackson I’m sure
Mississippi is last in so many ways.
One spark of hope is that multiple communities here have rejected marijuana.
The medical benefits of that drug seem dubious and in the long run this seems a faint to legitimize a new wave of folks who want to sell drugs.
Thanks, Ridgeand, at least today, for your stand.
Why are these ignorant politicians even bothering? Do they not know that to u can buy legal THC flower and THC edibles at every single CBD store in Ridgeland? The industry already has both feet in the door! Police know because they aren’t arresting for possession of Hemp flower that has been “upgraded” with concentrated hemp-derived THC. Yeah it is like a “light beer” smoke. But it’s basically the same and it is already legal for everyone over 21!
Hahahaha! Good!
Good news for Jackson. I guess ridgeland doesn’t need the extra revenue.
Shows what standing in front of the mall will do for gathering signatures.
THOSE idiots working all the petitions told some voters they were taking a survey. Isn't that misleading? Can we throw it all out?
3:33, what the hell does anything you said have to do with the fact that 'in order to be on the ballot, 1500 registered voters of Ridgeland' needed to sign the petition.
Clearly, the law was not met. It does not matter what the THC being sold, CDB stores selling crap that does not contain CDB contains - whatever.
In order for there to be an election, there is a legal process. And the weed tokers didn't meet that level.
Tell them to go back and look at the other petitions they had signed - they didn't meet the law. Go back to start, do not collect $200, etc. They failed. It doesn't matter what is being legally or illegally sold today.
Unless, of course, you are a QANON follower of DJT who thinks the law doesn't matter, you deserve it just because you want it.
Once the money starts flowing, greed will kick in and a lot of these holier-than-thou holdouts will change course.
This is how you lose a cause. People were out spending time and effort but obviously were not trained properly. People will be weary next time. It’s ok because Jackson will have it an it’s on 10 minutes away
@3:33, Bingo. I am currently high as a kite up a cats ass on 100% legal live-rosin hemp gummies. Legal coast to coast per the 2018 Hemp Farm Bill. Can almost run neck and neck with things you could buy in Denver.
Hell, I don’t care about relief from chronic pain or anxiety or glaucoma. I just want to get fucked up. Where do I sign?
What we have here is a failed petition based on poor planning and improper technique. Nothing more, nothing less.
Apparently the petitioners either didn't know or didn't care about the requirements.

You sign south of County Line.
How pathetic is your life, that you must alter your state of consciousness, to endure it?
Or, is it courage that is needed, and a chemical crutch helps with the lack of backbone? Only your hairdresser knows for sure.
Buzz harshed.
@8:37
It’s all about the dopamine. I wonder how much your life sucks that you have never experienced a dopamine high?
typical mississippi chaos
the legislature says its legal , but allows city s to ban it
If the mayor of a city decides to ban it, a petition shouldn’t be required in order for the citizens to vote on it. I’m sure a lot of Ridgelandites would prefer not to have their name on that list and be targeted by the local police, but would support it at the voting booth just like the majority of the state already did. When baptists run the government, you end up in last place.
Medical marijuana is not Ridgeland’s most pressing issue. But it makes a good smoke screen.
For a state and people that ended up going through shit to get Medical Marijuana as law, we sure have issues with it being a law. Seems no one wants it around them, like, "there goes the neighborhood".
@9"30 and 9:45 - the same process applies to alcohol (liquor and beer) sales within a county and/or city. The legislature "allows" alcohol, but allows a city to ban it applies to (so-called) medical marijuana, but with liquor, the legislature bans it but allows a city/county to allow it. Haven't heard you bitching about that process, which has been in effect now for 56 years.
And, by the way, a petition is required there as well. Same process.
9:45 for the win
this state is shades of grey away from a theatrocracy.
the Baptist church has run this state so well for many years LOL
one of the many reasons youth are leaving MS .....
MSCTA = FAIL.
@ 9:45 - Except a mayor can't 'decide to ban it'.
... from a theatrocracy.
Seriously? The state is being run by a militant junta of theater types?
@11:25 For the best retort ever!
“It’s all about the dopamine.”, you poor thing, that wacky tobacky has hindered what little intelligence you had.
For you to think that an outside chemical stimulation is the only way to have a dopamine release, says more about you, and your pathetic life, than mine.
Seeing how you are a strong believer in the stinky weed cult, you will be bounded to that simple solution. According to the maryjane cultist, the only answer to life's problems is more maryjane.
I find it funny when the first church of maryjane attack other religions. Ain't y'all some hypocrites.
@11:25 Dam auto correct , Theater types running the state would be a welcome change lol
we're stuck with Baptist running things so well ...
Theatrocracy actually sounds like a pretty good name for what we have. Political and religious theatrics to distract from the massive fraud and incompetency right before our eyes.
Mayor Gene F. McGee said a total of nine signatures had been confirmed as forgeries, the most prominent of which was the signature of Attorney General Lynn Fitch.
.....
The petition was submitted by Sterling Kidd, an attorney for the Healthcare Freedom Network, who represented the petitioners at Tuesday’s regular city meeting.
Kidd eventually asked that the petition be withdrawn. McGee said the city would not withdraw the petition as the submitted signatures had already been reviewed but that the petitioner was more than welcome to try again.
