JJ reported August 20 the Lumumba Administration did not publish desperately needed Class A operator positions online as the water treatment plants suffered a severe shortage of such operators:
Jackson needs water operators, right? The Mayor claims Jackson has a hard time hiring water operators, right? Well, perhaps Jackson might have an easier time finding water operators if it actually advertised for the open positions, right? Check out the job postings for the two water treatment plants on the city website. Notice anything missing?
There are a grand total of five postings for positions at Fewell and O.B. Curtis. Lacking among the postings are guess what, class? Class A water operators even though there are a grand total of 46 job postings in Public Works.
WLBT's Brendan Hall asked Hizzoner why the city did not advertise the open positions or post them on the city website. Watch the Mayor respond to the intrepid reporter.
The Mayor said the city posts the jobs on its website and Indeed.com. He said "we had a conversation" to make sure it's on the city's website as well. The response turned into classic Lumumba. He touted cooperation with the EPA before he raised his voice and began blaming prior administrations for not investing in employees or the water system. Of course, he never showed any actual postings. He vowed "we are going to get it right" as he promised to fix the water and sewer systems. However, Chief of Staff Dr. Sifiyah Omari. went up to the Mayor a few minutes later, flashing her smartphone to him in an effort to save the day. Mayor Lumumba held up the phone as he said the postings were indeed (pun intended) on the city's website. He cited an open position for a Water Plant Operator I as proof.
Well, not so fast, my friend. That position only requires a Class D license. The Class D only requires the applicant to have a high school diploma, a far cry from the science or engineering degree usually required for a Class A license.
A check of Indeed.com that day revealed only postings for water maintenance supervisor, water systems manager, and water plant operator I. No Class A operator positions were posted.
The city website only had postings for Water Plant Operator I (Class D) and Utility Plant Electrician at the O.B. Curtis water treatment plant the day of the press conference. There were a grand total of three postings for Fewelll on the city website: two listings for plant maintenance mechanics and plant utility electrician.
Fast forward to last week and then today and one will see nothing has changed.
Kingfish note: This is what happens when no one in leadership has management experience. As stated before on this website, the Mayor was a lawyer in a small firm. The Chief of Staff was a professor at JSU as was the first Chief Administrative Officer. The second CAO was an architect. After a short time in that position, he became the Public Works Director for nearly a year even though he lacked any public works experience. The current CAO was a customer service manager at Entergy. However, Jordan Hillman just became interim Public Works Director. She actually has some management experience so it will not be a surprise if this problem is soon corrected.

Putting up my middle finger to his crap. He has failed at everything he has attempted while mayor. What a POS.
Chowke and his spin doctors are not very intelligent, but they are smarter than his constituents.
Maybe he needs to go to some more conferences like those he attended in Paris, Miami, and Canada.
I don't think any of them has enough education to know the difference between A and D, much less math or chemistry. Of course, it's not like water, electricity, or sewage could sicken or hurt anyone.
Diversity is our strength. The Most Radical City on the planet.
3:38 No the Mayor is not smarter
You are as obsessed with this as you are tiny dogs and deep closets
PhD Omari
Is nothing more than a fraud academic. It’s unreal how unqualified she is for nearly all positions in the real world. Never hire an academic to a real world position.
I’m going to Miami!!!!!
If you pay them they will come.
I still know how to test for pH in pools based on my extensive training as a Red Cross Life Guard albeit years ago, but like riding a bike. Would I qualify in Jackson?
The mayor has an agenda. His chief of staff and a few others within his inner circle understand that agenda. He is constantly in pursuit of THAT agenda but the inner workings of a broken city just keep getting in the way. If he ever gets enough outside money, and a little daylight you will see what a socialist disaster really looks like.
I don't think the Mair recognized his Freudian use of the word "duplicitous." Most apt.
And yet there are so many people still believing Ladumnba's lies.
I'm so tired of it all.
What an empty suit POS
It's not disinformation unless Da Mair SAYS it's disinformation.
Academics don't know how things get done or who does them - they just know how to make generalizations or proclamations but have no idea how things get implemented. They truly believe work somehow gets done without their involvement.
4:59 PM, I don't know if they are believing it as much as they think it isn't wrong to tell a lie. It is a culture thing..
I can't figure out who is the most comical in front a camera ...
Antar or this "Doctor" Sifiyah Omari.
They are both too funny.
I made my own Bingo card using the Mayors favorite words during his (let me pat myself on my back speeches).

You can add:
White flight
State refusal
Fair share
Lack of investment
Be that as it may
It's going to take time
It's not my fault!
Don't forget about Kings stint at MDAH before CAO...
